Chapter 22
There came a knock on my bedroom door, so I switched off the music and put my book down, so I could go answer it. I opened the door and there stood in the hallway, smiling with something in his hands, Nick said, "I hope you like it."
Smiling back, in fact I had started smiling the second I saw him, I replied, " I'm sure I will."
Then I took it from him muttering a thank you. "Come in and I'll just get you, your present," I added and walked back in.
He followed me inside and stopped walking in the middle of the room. I popped my present carefully on my bedside table and then head to the wardrobe to get Nick and Bella's presents. My presents for everyone were on the shelve of my wardrobe, so I searched until I found them. Once I found them I turned around and handed them out to Nick. "One is for you. The other is for Bella," I told him.
"Thank you," he said as he took them from me.
"You can open yours now, if you want since you won't be here for Christmas," I told him as I really wanted to see him open it so I could witness his reaction.
"I'd rather wait till Christmas. Opening it on Christmas will almost make it seem like you'll be there too, even though you won't be," he stated.
"Okay," I said quietly and with a little disappointment. His reaction really was something I wanted to see.
"So, what are we going to do for fun today?" He asked.
"Erm..." I uttered as I tried to think of something.
"Oh, I know let's dance," he said.
"I can't dance," I told him.
"That is nonsense. I've seen you dance before. You danced at the Halloween party and you danced for Just Dance on the Wii," he pointed out.
"But at the party I just moved on the spot, I never actually danced, and on Just Dance it just recognizes your hand movements, it doesn't have a motion camera on the Wii. Plus I already know them dances because I've played that one a lot," I explained.
"Okay, then get ready for your first lesson at the Watson's Dance Academy," he said.
"Well I'm sorry but I don't think I can attend, Sir, I'm broke so I can't pay. Spent all my money on Christmas presents," I played along with a huge grin.
"We don't accept money at our Academy. We take a different type of payment here," he told me.
"What's that?" I wondered.
"Food," was all he replied with. Of course it would be that; I should have guessed.
"Of course," I stated.
"Besides first lesson is free," he added.
"So after today if I want to attend a lesson I must feed you? Don't you already have food at your house?" I asked him.
"Of course I do, but there is also one other payment method. However, that's only reserved for one special person," he answered.
"And what's this other payment?" I asked.
"Well this special person must kiss the dance trainer each lesson," he replied.
"Like this?" I questioned and then stood up on my tip toes so that I could kiss him.
Putting my arms around him my lips found my way to his, which felt warm against mine. His arms went around me, gently and he pulled me closer as we continued to kiss. A moment later we stopped and he said, "Just like that."
Then he kissed me again until he pulled away again to say, "Right let's dance."
"We need music," he pointed out stepping back, away from me. "Do you have a speaker?"
"No, but I do have a CD player though," I told him.
"That will do," he said.
"Okay, come with me," I told him shutting the wardrobe doors and then started headed out of my bedroom.
"Oki, Doki, but can I leave mine and Bella's presents up here till later?" He asked.
"Sure," I answered and carried on walking out.
Once out I waited for him to follow. I saw him put the presents down on my bedside table because I didn't close the door, and then he left my room and closed the door. Both of us then went down stairs.
"There's the CD player, " I said pointing at it on the top of the shelving unit, when we reached the bottom of the stairs and where stood in the living room.
"Okay, we need to clear some space," he pointed out and then walked over to the table.
"Is there not enough space already?" I wondered. There was a big area with nothing in it behind the sofa.
"We might need a little more depending on the type of dance moves we do," he replied and then began to move the chairs away from the table.
I helped him with my good arm. Seriously can't wait to get this pot off, I thought as I struggled to pull a chair out of the way. Then Nick tried to lift the table up but as he did a leg fell off hitting the floor with a loud bang.
"What was that?" He wondered, his voice a little higher than normal.
"You broke the table," I replied.
"No, I didn't. All I did was pick it up. I didn't do anything that could brake it," he said in defense and his voice sounded more like his regular tone.
"A leg fell off," I stated.
"But, I didn't touch the legs," he said.
"What's going on in here? I heard a bang," my mum wondered as she entered the room from the kitchen.
"I didn't do anything. It just fell off," Nick replied quickly.
"I didn't say you did. Plus don't worry about it, Nick. The table is old," she told him and then walked over to him.
My mum bent down to pick up the leg and screwed it back in place. Then Nick set the table back.
"Why were you trying to move the table anyway?" She asked.
"Well we were going to dance," I replied.
"And I thought that we might need a little more room," Nick added.
"If you need more room why don't you go to the mansion and use the ballroom. I'm sure Emma will let you use it if you ask her," my mum suggested.
"Okay, mum," I said in agreement and then went to go get my coat from upstairs. When I came back down I brought Bella's and Nick's presents, and Nick had put his own coat back on.
I handed them too him and both of us said bye to my mum and headed out of the Cottage. Nick made his way down the path as I closed the door. After I ran after him. He had stopped just at the bottom of the path and when I reached him he opened the gate and stepped out onto the footpath. I followed him. We was about to turn in the direction of the woods, after shutting the gate, when we saw the last people we wanted to see during our early Christmas celebration.
Catherine and her boyfriend Ash, were walking up the street and when they saw us Ash ran in front of us blocking our path.
"Eww, look who it is. The freak and his idiot girlfriend," Catherine stated as she walked up behind Ash with a look of hatred on her face.
"Vicky isn't an idiot. You're..." Nick started to say but was cut off.
"I dare you to finish that sentence Freakson," Ash said firmly.
"The idiot," Nick dared say.
Ash's body twitched with anger at this and he lifted his fist in the air, pulled it back and swung it towards Nick, who managed to duck out of the way. Then Nick kicked Ash causing him to fall backwards. I was about to intervene to tell them to stop, but all I could do was watch in shock and worry, as no sound seemed to want to leave my mouth. Catherine joined in and pushed Nick catching him off guard. He tripped and fell straight into Ash's fist, who had now stood up. I heard Ash's fist conect with Nick's jaw causing me to almost wince in pain but this helped me to make the words audible that were still formed on my lips.
"Stop it," I muttered, quieter than I thought I would be, so I cleared my throat and tried again. "Stop it," I ordered, louder this time, but it didn't do anything.
Nick had now turned his head to look down at the floor with his fists clenched at his sides. He was taking deep breaths trying to calm himself down before they noticed that his eyes had changed colour the way they did when he was angry. I hadn't seen them but I knew that they would now be yellow instead of green because I could see that he was getting angry.
With Nick turned away, Ash took this as an opportunity to hit him again. He hit him and without seeing it coming Nick couldn't Dodge it so it connected to the side of his face. Ash hit him once more before he could even pull himself together after the previous punch.
"Hey, what's going on out here?" My mum's asked coming to the rescue.
"Nothing," Ash replied.
"Certainly doesn't look like nothing," my mum pointed out.
Nick looked back up from the floor. His eyes were still a little yellow but it was barely noticeable. He grabbed hold of Ash's T-shirt ready to hit him back.
"Nick let him go," My mum ordered and he did.
"Don't ever grab me like that again and never call Cathy an idiot. Do you understand freak? Or I'll make your pathetic life hell," Ash shouted.
"Don't you already do that?" Nick wondered.
"You've seen nothing yet," Ash replied and stormed away. His girlfriend followed after him.
"What happened?" my mum asked.
"We were heading to the woods when they were walking on the street. They saw us so Ash ran in front of us to stop us and then Catherine called Nick a freak and me an idiot. Nick said she was the idiot not me and Ash hit him, so Nick tried to defend himself but she pushed him and Ash kept hitting him," I explained.
"Nick you shouldn't retaliate. That's what they want. More excuses to be mean to you and bully you," my mum said.
"They just make me really angry sometimes," Nick pointed out.
"That's what they want to do, upset you," she told him.
"I know," he said.
She smiled and said, "why don't you two hurry up along to the mansion now?"
"Yeah," I agreed and added to Nick, "come on, Nick let's go," as I took hold of his hand and guided him towards the woods.
"I wish there was a better way to get to the mansion, instead of having to walk through the woods," I said.
"There is for you. You can learn a teleportation spell," he told me.
"I like walking," I said.
"But not through woods," he pointed out. I didn't reply because it was true. Instead if complaining about walking through the woods each time we wanted to go to Emma's I could learn a teleportation spell and I'd never have to walk through the woods again, but that would mean Nick would have to walk through by himself, unless I had enough power like Emma to teleport others as well as my self.
A few moments later the mansion revealed it's self so we stepped out if the woods into the clearing and then walked towards the gates. Nick pressed the buzzer and we listened closely to the ringing until someone answered. It was Emma.
"Hello, how may I help you?" Emma's voice asked.
"Hey, Emma it's Vicky and Nick," Nick replied.
"Nice of you to come around. Come inside," she said and then the gates swung open.
We entered the grounds and made our way up the drive way to the front door. Once we reaches the door I let go of Nick's hand and tried the door. It was open so we entered and then went to go find Emma. The two of us decided to check the library/study first, since that was the place she spent most of her free time reading and learning spells, potions and charms. We stopped outside and Nick knocked on the door.
"Come in," Emma's voice came from behind the door. Nick opened the door and then we both entered.
She was sat behind a messy desk, that was covered in lose papers, pens and books some of which were open. Surrounding the room were tall selves, that were all nearly filled with books and the remainder were filled with crystals, herbs and other items used for magic.
"Hello, Vicky, Nick," she said smiling. "How are you?" She asked, closing the book she had been reading.
"I'm good," I replied.
"Me too. How about you," Nick answered.
"Very well thanks," she said and stood up from her seat.
"Would you like some tea and biscuits or maybe some hot chocolate? It's very cold outside today, it'll warm you up," she suggested.
"Sounds good but we were going to do some dancing first," Nick told her.
"That's why we came. To ask you if we could use the ball room," I added.
"Sure you can, but you sure you don't want a drink first?"
"I don't see why not," I replied and then added to Nick, "Do you want to have a drink first? We can dance after."
"Oki, Doki," he agreed.
"Okay, what do you want? Hot chocolate or tea?" Emma asked.
"Tea please," Nick said.
"Erm... Can I have tea as well please?" I wondered.
"Of course. Just go wait in the TV room and I'll bring them too you," she told us and then walked out of the library.
Nick and I did the same but walked in the opposite direction to her. She went in the direction of the kitchen and we went to the TV room. Inside we sat down on the sofa and decided on what to watch and then waited for her to bring our tea.
Hopefully, it wouldn't take long because I couldn't wait to dance with Nick.
Smiling back, in fact I had started smiling the second I saw him, I replied, " I'm sure I will."
Then I took it from him muttering a thank you. "Come in and I'll just get you, your present," I added and walked back in.
