No Other Way
Aiden's eyes slowly started to flutter open, while he rubbed his aching forehead with his palm. Seconds after he noticed that he was gazing upon an unfamiliar ceiling with a blue light bulb hanging from it, while hearing loud bangs in the background and a familiar voice yelling. "Where am I...?" He asked as he got up with his hand still on top of his forehead due to the immense pain he was feeling. "Apparently inside a storage room." David replied sitting beside him. "Aiden are you okay?" Emily asked looking concerned. "I'm alright Em, don't worry." Aiden replied patting her head. The young man stretched out his body while he took a quick look around. He quickly noticed that the familiar voice was Owen's as he was constantly pounding the door that was apparently locked. Linda besides him was trying to prevent his actions but was clearly not able to do so. Ashley was silently sitting down beside Linda, Olivia was sitting down with Danny in a back corner away from the door and David was walking around nervously. The black haired teenager quickly noticed that Grace was missing. "Are you feeling alright Aiden?" Olivia asked with concern. "I patched your head up with a cloth I found." She continued. "Thanks I'm okay now... But where is Grace?" He asked as he approached. "They kept her inside the residence." Olivia explained. "These bastards... So where are we now?" The young man asked gritting his teeth. "They dragged as inside this room that was a apparently behind that door were trying to open. We need to get out of here Aiden." David said to him. "No shit." He replied as he tried to think. "GET US OUT OF HERE!" Owen shouted as he continuously pounded the iron door. "I'LL KILL YOU ALL!" The big old man continued shouting. "Dad please stop it's not good for your condition!" Linda said looking concerned. "I'm completely fine!" He said almost out of breath. "I'm good..." He continued as he pulled away from the door looking exhausting and extremely pale. "Dad are you okay?!" Linda asked grabbing hold of him. "ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!" Owen suddenly started grunting grabbing and squeezing his chest and seconds after he fell to the ground with a thud. "DAD! DAAD!" His daughter shouted falling on top of him as soon as she could checking for his pulse right away "Not again mate..." Aiden said holding his head in frustration. "We don't have pills this time pal." David said being sarcastic, taking the situation lightly. "STOP IT YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES! HE HAS NO PULSE!" She shouted back at them as tears started to form underneath her eyes. Olivia swiftly got up and rushed over to check for herself. "She's right!" David's wife pointed out tracing his Owen's wrist with her finger. "OH FUCK! Is he dead?!" David asked as he walked over nervously. The kids were frozen in place looking at the two women on top of them with fear in their eyes almost like they knew what was about to happen "No way..." Ashley spelled out bringing her hands to her face. "You've got to help me!" Linda said holding back tears as she started pumping his chest with her hands. "He can't die!" She shouted continuing her efforts with determination. "It's too late Linda..." Olivia spelled out the bold truth with a broken voice. "No it's not! He's not dead!" The dead man's daughter said not wanting to believe what had just happened. "Linda please... I'm a doctor! I've seen this again! H-He can't be saved..." Olivia stuttering tried to explain. "No please... NO!" Linda shouted at the top of her lungs while falling over her father's body. "We need to do something Aiden..." David said turning to look at his friend. "Like what?!" Aiden replied nervously not getting his point."We have... We have to smash his head!" David spelled out as his eyes almost formed flames around them. "What? Why?!" The young man asked in a shock. "Do you want to be stuck in a small room with a three feet tall walker?!" David asked with his turn. "That can't be good..." Aiden said hardly gulping down and started to look around. "We have to..." The young man eventually agreed. "What are you saying you monsters?!" Linda shouted as tears started falling from her eyes, not able to hold them back any longer. "That's what needs to be done if we want to survive Linda..." Olivia said as he stood up and turned her back not wanting to see what will follow. "Aiden are you sure?" Ashley asked. "There's no other way..." Aiden replied looking serious. David picked up a big and heavy box and nodded at Aiden. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." Aiden whispered as he grabbed Linda and pulled her away. Olivia grabbed Danny and Emily keeping their eyes closed with her hand. "LET ME GO!" Linda shouted as David walked closer to the corpse. The big man's fingers started moving as his body turned to a lifeless color. Aiden closed his eyes and the grown man threw the heavy box on top of the man's head. His head made a splashing sound as it's internals were smashed. Blood started spreading through the floor near Owen's head. "NOOOOOOO!" Linda shouted falling on top of her father's body once again. "I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO SAY GOODBYE...!" She shouted at the two men with hatred in her eyes. Aiden looked away, clearly not wanting to look her in the eyes. "Come on we need to get out of here..." David pointed out with a bitterness in his voice. Aiden nodded and walked towards Emily as he tried to comfort her. "Is... Is he... dead?" Emily stuttered in between sobs. "He is in a better place sweetie." The young man explained hugging her. "You're... You're right..." She hugged him back wetting his jacket with her tears. But the crying of the woman that had just lost her father, her only relative, was not going to stop. "Aiden come here quickly!" David said to him from the other side of the room. "I'll be back in a few Em." The young man told her with a bitter smile as he walked towards the bearded man. "Here. Isn't this a good way out?" David said pointing at an air duct near the ceiling. "Yeah that could work!" Aiden said as David's find brought some light inside him. The young man jumped up and removed the air duct's trap door. "But can anyone fit inside this?" Aiden asked. "We've got two kids here! We'll make it work." David reassured him. "I don't think Emily is up for it..." Aiden said in a low voice. "And besides Danny's shorter." He continued. "Okay okay. Hey Danny boy come here!" David called over his son. The little kid stood up and walked towards the two men. What's wrong dad?" He asked. "We need you to climb up there and open the door from the outside for us. I'll give you a hand so don't worry. Are you up for it?" The grown man explained to his son. "Uhmm will I be able to do it?" The kid asked. "Of course you'll be." His father reassured him. "Okay then!" The kid agreed. "I need you to step over my hand so I can give you a boost Danny. Is that okay?" Aiden said readying up his arms. "Okay. I- I'm ready." Danny said almost confidently as he got ready himself. The little kid quickly stepped onto Aiden's hand and with his father's help he reached the air duct and climbed in. "Go open the door boy!" David said looking anxious. Danny's crawling sounds inside of the air duct were heard as the kid moved swiftly inside the confined space. Danny jumped down and gasped deeply in distress. "What happened Danny?" Olivia said walking closer to the air duct. The door opened swiftly and Aiden recognised the room he gazed upon. It was the room that was locked way inside the barn. Danny had a shocked look in his face as he witnessed the monstrosities inside that room up close. "I'll be checking outside. You stay here and watch over everyone." Aiden said. "Wait. I'll be coming with you." David exclaimed almost automatically. "But everyone else will be staying here. Ashley you take care of Linda. Olivia take care of the kids." The grown man announced. "Be careful David." Olivia said looking concerned. "Don't worry. Oli." He replied swiftly. "Let's go Dave." Aiden said as he opened the two big doors to the barn.
