Chapter 15
Jane
12•20•8993. 10:15.
Still in our disguises, we quickly exit the food-filled tent and immediately head toward the Mancazi District, refusing to turn around.
We weave through the crowds which are muted in both color and volume. Each and every person has a panicked look on their face as they flee from the area, surprisingly quiet.
I gesture to a vehicle about one hundred yards from us, "We're almost there," I murmur. Its a small Jeep with the color of green and brown mixed together. It has a few backpacks in it; more for us to use. There is also a sheet over top of it.
We hurry through the crowd, as quiet and calm as we can possibly be at the moment.
In the midst of the silent panic, we discreetly enter the Jeep, since it's parked in the dark shadow of a building, and hide inside of it until the sounds of footsteps fade.
"Where could they be, Finn?" asks a female voice.
I triple check to make sure the sheet is completely covering us and hold my breath. Arcadia and Magnuson are covering their mouths in the faint light.
I hear the familiar low, hissing voice.
"They're here," he whispers.
Magnuson, Arcadia, and I look at each other in pure fear. The two of them are visibly shaking.
"Could they be in disguises, sir?" questions the woman.
"Well, of course," replies Finnian, "they're not stupid."
I take it as a compliment and hide my wicked grin.
The vehicle tips, just slightly. He must be leaning on it.
Come on, we're so close.
"They most likely followed the crowd, so let's check each home. Especially my sister's."
Kieladire.
I hear footsteps in the opposite direction, push off the sheet, and hop into the driver's seat.
"Go, go, go," whispers Magnuson.
I crank the key and the loud engine turns on. "I hope I remember how to do this," I say aloud.
"What?" asks Arcadia.
"Nevermind."
I put the car in drive and head toward Mancazi.
Upon hearing the engine, Finnian's group chases after us, using their powers to their advantage.
One passes us quickly with light speed and jumps onto the hood of the car. Arcadia gets a sword from the back of the vehicle and swipes at him fiercely, knocking him away.
Another shoots fire at the engine, and Magnuson spins it out of the way, retaliating by forcing it back at Finnian himself.
Using weapons and powers, the entire group fights the three of us, falling behind the car's speed.
After a few minutes, Finnian is the only one remaining.
Him and Magnuson are fighting fiercely, Magnuson using his fire and heat and Finnian using water, creating endless amounts of steam between them.
"Oh, for crying out loud," shouts Arcadia. She grabs a bow and arrow and shoots Finnian in right in the eye, blood spurting everywhere,
She sits back down and casually organizes the weapons.
"You two should leave me somewhere else," says Magnuson, "anywhere I can hide. I'll only slow you d-"
"Shut up," Arcadia and I say simultaneously and sarcastically.
I speak up, "We aren't ditching you and leaving you for that Finnian bi-"
He sighs audibly.
Rejoicing in the new luck, I drive as fast as I can to the Mancazi District.
