Lavender’s POV:
It’s so hard, I can’t sleep… The ground is very hard, I’m just going to give up. Pulling out my journal, I start to write. After I finished, I read over my journal entry.
“’ August, 25, 2017,
Dear diary/journal, I left the pack today – my mate, and the alpha’s son, rejected me. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I left. I tried to get to sleep, but, I can’t. Wish me luck, but, I won’t be getting any sleep anytime soon… I wish I could… I’m so tired, well, bye, Journal/Diary, I’ll be back next time,
From, Lavender.’”
Leaning against my duffel bag, I shut my eyes tightly, trying to get to sleep. Finally, I fall into a restless sleep.
“Is she alive?” I hear a voice ask.
“I don’t know, maybe you should ask her, dimwit, Lucy, seriously.”
“Alright… I will!” ‘Lucy’ said determined. “Hey, are you alive?” I felt someone poking my cheek. Once. Twice. Three times.
“Right. She’s dead. Let’s go, Luke.” I heard her walking away.
“You’re so dumb! ‘right, girl, get up, you’re on Shadow Moon territory.” Luke snapped.
I pretended to be ‘dead’ or asleep.
“I don’t think she’s going to wake up anytime soon, Luke, we should take her back to packhouse,” I heard a third voice speak up.
“Right, Zayn. We’ll do that.” Luke said.
I felt myself being picked up. “Are we going to take her luggage?”
I heard someone moving the items in my dufflebag around. “Hey, why’s she have a cat plush?” I hear, I think it’s Lucy, the only girl of their patrol, I’m guessing.
I instinctively grab Cole out of her hands, and hold him close.
“Well that settles it. She has hardly anything – hey what’s this? Ohhh a picture!” Lucy picks up the picture, I can tell that much, by my amazing detective skills. “Looks like her family, or someone else close, well, multiple people anyways,”
“Lucy, that’s private – put it back!” Luke growled.
“Okay father.” Lucy grumbled, putting it back. “She’s got nothing else in here – a journal, hey!” Lucy gasps.
‘She get’s my journal, and I’m done for!’ I panic quietly.
“Leave the book alone, that’s not yours to look at, Luce,” I hear Zayn say.
“Awe Zayn, you’re no fun!” Lucy laughed. “You think you telling me off is going to stop me from looking?”
“No, but, this can!” He grabbed the book from her hands, by her muffled, ‘Hey!’
“Guys, enough funny business, let’s go.” Luke muttered.
“’right, I’m taking her stuff, so Lucy can’t snoop.”
‘I wish my pack mates were like that…’ I think, sighing. ‘I’ll probably be locked in a cold, damp, cell…’
“What’s alpha going to do to her?” Zayn asks.
“Probably wait until she wakes up, and question her.” Luke murmurs.
“But… Where’ll we put her?” Lucy asks.
“We’ll mind-link alpha, he’ll probably say a cell, but, maybe if she’s lucky…”
“Alright. I’m mind-linking him right now, guys, wait a moment.” Zayn tells them, and me, I guess.
Everything goes silent for a bit. “He says…” He starts off.
“Put her in one of the spare rooms.” Everyone breathes a sigh of relief, mine is so quiet, it sounds like when you take a deep breath out when you’re sleeping.
“That’s great, isn’t there any bad news?” Lucy asks.
“Nope, no guards, nothing,” Zayn laughs quietly.
“Well, which spare room?” Luke mumbles.
“How about the spare room next to mine?” Zayn proposes.
“I’ll agree with that.” Lucy smiles.
“Well, Zayn, you take her, I’ll take her luggage.” Luke passes me to who I’m assuming is Zayn.
“Well here we are.” Zayn murmurs, opening a door, which I’m assuming was the room, because he sets me down on a soft bed. I’ve never been on a soft bed, or if I have, I never remembered it.
Suddenly, a pain coursed through my limbs as Zayn was about to leave. With a low whimper, I felt my bones start to break and reform. It hurts so much!
****Third persons POV****
Zayn spins around, with a gasp of shock, not expecting the 17 year old to shift.
In seconds, Luke and Lucy push him out of the way, just as a light tan wolf with a light brown tail, ears, and eye spot appears, with grey paws. Lavender tries to stand, but falls, and everything went black for her.
“What just happened?” Lucy asked.
“Was that her first shift?” Luke wonders.
“I wonder why a 17 year old would shift so late?”
“I heard that lower ranking wolves, escpecially omegas, shift later than normal wolves.” Lucy spits some knowledge.
“Do you think she’s an omega?” Luke asks, looking at the unconscious body of Lavender.
“Highly likely.” They heard a voice behind them, overflowing with power.
“A-alpha!” The wolves move out of the way.
“I figure her journal holds all the answers.” He tells the group.
“Should we check it?” Luke asks skeptically.
“It’s the only way to find out, isn’t it?”
They start to read her journal.
“‘Journal entry 1, 3, Lavender Watters, (yes I spelt it purposely like that. She’s 3 at this time, she can’t spell properly.) I got a kitty cat plushe today, I named it ‘cole.’ He’s so cut! Mommy and Daddy got him for me. Sissy and Bubby are happy I can sell, even though I’m not that good at it…’”
The group laughs at Lavender’s cuteness.
“Next entry,” Luke mumbles.
“’ Journal entry 2, 4, Lavender Waters,
We explored the forest for the first time today. I tripped over a log, but, mommy helped me up. And bubba did, too. After I got up, I was all better! We played tag, and hide ‘n’ seek. I didn’t know how to play at first, and I also heard about this thing called a ‘soul mate’ momma says that daddy is her ‘soul mate’ and that’s why they love eachother so much. We’re going back out again soon, momma says. I’m turning 5 soon, I bet I’ll have a great party!’”
“I don’t see why she’d be omega, she seems like a normal 4 year old,” Lucy shivers, from cold.
“We still have more entries to read, Luce, her life could take a strange turn, even she didn’t expect.” Zayn said, “It’s only the second entry.”
“’Journal entry 3, 5, Lavender waters,
Todays my birthday, I can’t wait until my party, it’s gonna be so exiting! It’s in a few hours. Gotta get ready, it’s gonna be amazing! I am walking in the forest with momma and dad. We’re taking a break, am I the only one who hears leaves and twigs breaking close to us? Must be a pack member. Hey… I just saw a black flash in the trees, I don’t think that’s a pack member. I pointed it out to mommy, she says that we should go. We start heading home, when my momma falls to the ground, a wird creature on top of her.
I’m back, momma and daddy weren’t moving when I left to get help, and now I’m in my room. Sissy says it’s my fault mommy and daddy are sleeping, but, I don’t know how. I don’t even know what those creatures are, let alone help them make mommy and daddy sleep.
But daddy tried to protect mommy, and, he went to sleep, too. I think, I went to go get help ‘cause daddy told me to. My bubba’s knocking at the door, I gotta go, see you, journal.’”
“Is this where her life takes a dramatic turn?” Alpha asks.
“Maybe,” Lucy murmurs. “poor girl.”
“Guys be quiet. I’m reading the next one.” Zayn hisses.
“’ June 15, 2007, Lavender waters,
My brother hit me today, I don’t know why, he and sissy says that I am the fault momma and daddy died. I couldn’t protect them, is that bad? Alpha joined in too, I don’t know why, what did I do wrong? Maybe I’ll never know.
Sincerely, Lavender.’”
“T-that’s horrible!” Luke gasps.
“I knew it.” Alpha mutters. “It was so obvious…”
“How’d you know?”
“Because… I know that alpha personally, he said that his omega was blamed for something that she didn’t do, but he can’t stop it. He never told me he joined in though.”
“Next,” Zayn growled, telling everyone to shut it,
“’ May 26, 2013, Lavender waters,
Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with you, I’ve had to give up practically all my stuff, and move to the room below the basement. Why do they have this room, I wonder. Even omega is above the basement. I’ve got a little blanket for a bed, and it’s dreadfully cold down here. The beatings have gotten worse, and I’ve started taking over as omega, them letting omega sit back, and I having to clean rooms, make breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, and not get a single bite, unless someone offers me something, (usually omega, she knows what it’s like,) like a buiscuit, a small one, anyways, I’m scared I’m gonna get a cold, too. I wish I could stop the beatings, it’s horrible. Alpha (‘sir’) is calling, I’ve got to go.
Sincerely, Lavender.’”
Zayn finishes. “There’s two more entries, do you want me to read them?”
Everyone nods. “Right, here we go…”
“’ December 31, 2015, Lavender waters,
Today’s Christmas, I’m stuck in my ‘Room,’ at least they didn’t make me cook today, or clean. They’re that nice. Maybe they’re too busy opening presents, like they are every year. The beatings have worsened to the point were… I’ve been thinking about cutting. I stole a knife from the kitchen the other day, so if I ever need to, I don’t have to take the risks… Why would they do this to me, I wonder everyday, and can I stop it?
Well, my ‘brother’ is calling, I bet he wants to beat me on Christmas. Nothing I can do about that, bye, journal.’”
Zayn flinches whimpering.
“N-next.”
“Rejected… That’s why she ran away.” Lucy looked over at the limp wolf on the bed.
“Alpha, can she join our pack?”
“If she chooses to.”
“Yay!”
“Shush, she’s waking up!”
With a low whine, a tan head lifts shakily off the bed.
Looking confused, she started gnawing on her cat plushie.
“Well, let’s teach her how to shift back…”
