Nothing begins
"Hey Kate! Wanna hangout after school?" asks someone, just for the sake of kindness.
"Sorry, I've got some work. Maybe next time. Thanks for asking though", I reply without looking up. Judging by the carefree voice it's probably Evelyn who asked me out.
Evelyn...the most cheerful person on earth. Basically gets along well with everyone. If optimism was a human, I bet it would have been Evelyn.
As usual, the class is dismissed and we are done for the day. I pack my things and get ready to leave.
As always it's a plain way back home. I am usually free after school except the times my mom forces me to get some groceries on the way back. And as for the proposal, I lied. Hanging out with unknown people just because we study in the same class? Nah, I'll pass. And as for the word 'friends',oh please.
Friends.
Sounds like a nice word. Not for me.
Maybe I'm in the last year of my high school and people expect me to have lots of friends to hangout with. But so what?
There's no bloody person on this earth who's a friend.
It reminds me of Amelia Jones. The girl who was in the same class with me in the second year of our high school. So this Amelia, she was a female version of Richie Rich. Heard of Richie Rich? Well basically he was a blond kid who was extraordinarily rich. Well coming back to Amelia. So she had lots and lots of friends. Well, the 'so-called friends' would sound better. She was a nice girl though. So her friends asked her to treat them quite frequently, buy them gifts and all sorts of 'friendly favours' (as they put it). So one day, when Amelia was late to class, her friends started some serious chatting. "That bitch thinks she's the best just because her father's a rich dude? She's disgusting" started one of Amelia's friends. "Can't she look at the mirror? She's even fatter than a pig!" said the other friend. I admit Amelia was a bit chubby, but to put it like that... seriously. Good friends. I know.
So the twist is, when I got bored and decided to drop by the cafeteria, I saw Amelia, right next to the door. She had heard every damned thing. Her cheeks had turned red, almost on the verge of tears. I thought of consoling her but decided to walk by silently because false consolations were never my thing. She had to deal with it. That's the way of the world. That's the truth.
I walked by, hearing the sounds of my footsteps. And of deep chokes.
The very next day, Amelia was absent.
Second day after that, absent.
Third day absent.
Fourth, fifth, sixth ..... absent, absent, absent.
Somedays later, Ms. Lee, our homeroom teacher, announced that Amelia had to transfer schools because of distance problems.
I acted like I knew nothing. Why was she absent again? Yeah, distance problems.
The way back home is usually long but today it felt short. Maybe because I was busy thinking about Amelia Jones. Anyways. By the time I got Amelia off my mind I realised that I was home. I sighed.
"How was your day honey?" , asked mom just as I closed the door behind me.
"Like any other day. Normal.", I replied.
"Shouldn't a girl of your age be hanging out with friends already?" asked mom.
"Well I'm mentally as good as a sixty year old." I teased.
"Arguing with you is pointless. I loose." She sighed and left.
I know I'm hard to deal with most of the times. Especially when any unpleasant memories come to my mind.
I feel tired. I decide to go for a short nap.
I climb up the stairs and take a left turn.
My room is on the left. My brother's room is on the right. It's been a while since we had a nice brother-sister talk. Not like I'm desperate to have one, but I still do miss the good old times.
My brother is currently in college. Well, a university to be precise. He's apparently a very bright student. His wish was to become a teacher when we were small. I guess he's already working hard on his dreams. Most of the times I see him, I can't help but notice the disgustingly ugly, fat "Book of laws" he always seems to carry around. I bet he's up studying right now. I decided to pay him a short visit but I change my mind. The best thing I can do for him is to leave him be and give him some time to study. I'll end up disturbing him anyways if I go now.
I reach my room.
'As soon as I get to the bed, I'll sleep' I tell myself. But all my plans have been ruined by the figure who's currently sitting on my bed. And as far as I can make out... it's reading something and it's my....Holy shit! It's my math result which came out quite bad.
"You moron!" I shout and snatch back the result. Apparently, he doesn't let go of me until he says, "That's some interesting thing I saw there Kat."
There's a slight curl on the side of his lips.
"Let go, Sky" I say.
"What if I don't?", he replies.
"Then I've got no other choice" I say and punch him in his guts.
"Oouch!" he says and let's go. Though I doubt how much damage I have actually dealt to him. Quite obviously I know his "oouch" was sarcasm, but decide to let go of the topic.
"So who gave you the official right to invade my room?", I ask.
"Wanna know?" he says.
"Answer" ,I say.
"It's simple. Look there" he says and points towards my window.
I have an urge to kick him. But I control myself.
He smirks.
"So wassup? What do you need?" I say, feeling my strained voice.
"You", he replies.
"Cut the crap and get to the point" , I say. My fists are ready to take action.
"Maybe you'll like to have a seat or I'll make sure that your mom knows your good grades in math" , he threatens.
I close the door shut behind me as I go to take a seat in front of the sandy haired, pale skinned boy in a white shirt and jeans who apparently has a smirk on his face.
"Let's begin." he says while I listen closely.
