The Light Eaters
In the small town of Arctus, nestled in the heart of Scallion's snow-covered tundra, something strange was happening. People were reporting sightings of strange creatures that they called "light-eaters," which seemed to be devouring the light around them. At first, the sightings were dismissed as hallucinations, but as more and more people reported seeing the creatures, panic began to spread.
No one knew where the light-eaters had come from or what they wanted, but everyone agreed that they were not natural. They were shadowy, amorphous beings, with tendrils that seemed to reach out and absorb the light around them. When they moved, they left behind a trail of darkness, and the air around them felt colder than usual.
Jen, a local mechanic, had heard the rumors of the light-eaters but had dismissed them as superstition. However, one evening, as she was closing up her shop, she saw something moving in the darkness outside. At first, she thought it was just her imagination, but then she saw the tendrils of darkness reaching towards her.
She froze, not knowing what to do, as the creature crept closer. It seemed to be drawn to the light coming from her shop, and as it got closer, Jen felt the temperature dropping rapidly. Suddenly, she remembered the old legend of the light-eaters, and a shiver ran down her spine.
With trembling hands, Jen reached for a wrench and swung it at the creature, hoping to drive it away. To her surprise, the creature recoiled, letting out a hissing noise that sounded almost like pain. Emboldened, Jen swung again, and this time, the creature vanished into thin air.
Breathless and shaking, Jen realized that she had just faced one of the mysterious light-eaters. She knew that she had to warn the others before it was too late. But as she stepped outside, she noticed something strange. The sky, which had been pitch black only moments before, was now tinged with a faint pinkish glow.
Jen looked up, her heart racing, and saw something that she never thought she'd see on Scallion: a sunrise. The light-eaters may have been taking the light away, but they had also brought something back, something that Scallion hadn't seen in years. As Jen watched the sky light up with hues of orange and red, she knew that this was just the beginning of the strange and wondrous events that would befall her planet in the wake of the technological revolution.
