Prologue
Amy stuck her head out of the car window. The strong, biting winds rushed past her and she smiled. Maybe being in such a small town where everyone knew each other would be a better idea than she had originally thought. After all, most of her family lived there and this was a much better chance for her to get closer to them.
Throughout her life, she had always felt disconnected from her family, especially when she came over for yearly visits yet never understood what her cousins talked about or how they were so close to each other but treated her almost like she was a stranger.
Amy grinned and her blue eyes lit up with excitement. Now, instead of being lonely whenever her parents went to work or out for their monthly dates, she would have so many cousins, brother and sisters, to be with and talk to. She could not wait to meet them. It would be amazing to finally connect with them, even if she was eighteen years later than she should have been.
The car stopped and Amy popped her head back into the car. Looking at her parents, who were busy talking to each other, she shook her head and opened the car door. Going to the trunk of the car, she allowed the driver, Noah, help her get her luggage.
With a duffel bag over her shoulder and a suitcase held in each hand, she strode towards her new house. It was small, just big enough for three people, and looked more like a cottage than a house. Even from outside the house, Amy could sense the homey feeling coming from it and she could not wait to step inside the house.
She felt a presence besides her and her dad said, "Impressive, isn't it? Small and cozy yet very nice. Your mother loved the house the moment she saw it."
Amy smiled. She should have known that her mother was the one who chose the house. After all, she was the only person in the house who had a great taste, may it be clothing or, in this case, houses.
Her father smiled at her and held one of her arms. "Let's go in, sweetheart," he said, taking one of the suitcases she was pulling and guiding her towards the door.
As soon as he pushed the door open after twisting the key into the lock, he said loudly, "Welcome to your new home, Amy!"
