Terminal Improvements and Future Prospects It's worth noting that Terminal 1 is currently undergoing significant renovations, with a new terminal set to open in late summer 2025. The expansion aims to enhance the traveler experience with additional gates, improved amenities, and sustainable design features. While construction is ongoing, the current terminal remains fully operational, and efforts have been made to minimize disruptions to passengers. Final Thoughts I had a really good overall experience flying with Southwest Airlines out of Terminal 1 in San Diego. The trip was smooth and delightful because of the effective procedures, welcoming personnel, and practical conveniences.
