Chapter Two
After what felt like hours of trying to read the dozens of books recommended to us, I gave up and we played one-on-one matches. He was annoyingly good at Clash of Clans and stickman football so I gave him a game Im sure he would hate. Mahjong. The epitome of my being. And surely enough, he got bored within the first five minutes.
"How can you play such a boring game? Wheres the fun, the action, the speed?"
"Unlike you, Im not into fast-paced games. Relaxing games are more my style."
"Come on. No one really hates action games."
"I do. They stress me out. Every time I play them I end up losing, get frustrated and start again. Lose, get angry, repeat. Its a vicious cycle I said nodding my head."
"Hmm. We should play FIFA together sometime. Are you free after school?" My heart skipped a beat.
“Did you not just hear a thing I said?" I sighed. “I have a ton of homework to do today." I lied. I did most of my homework before the weekend began. I never do anything academic over the weekend (unless we have a test).
"Its Monday."
"My teachers are evil. I tried to say as nonchalantly as possible. Please dont ask questions."
"Touché."
Im 100% sure Kyle didn't fall for that but I'm glad he didn't probe me for more information. Truth is, I don't know why I don't want to hang out with him.
"...Lia, Amelia. AMELIA!"
"W-what?!"
Kyle chuckled. "Class is starting."
I gave him a blank look.
"The bell just rang."
I took out my phone. 8:02am. I'm late for class. For history, with one of the most detested teachers on earth. Ms. Paythorn. The woman is a monster. She once made us reenact the civil war and didn't let us go until we got it right. Mind you, she woke up one day and just came to class with her clearly distorted mindset. We all skipped recess that day. Scratch recess, we were at least ten minutes late for our next class! Everyone was met with a days detention slip and a Cheshire cat smile from our geography teacher at the door.
"Amy. You okay? You look a little pale."
I turned and looked at Kyle. I cannot believe I'm saying this.
"Hey. Let's skip class today."
Goodbye perfect attendance.
"Well well well. Amelia Hylype has finally joined the dark side. Let me be first to welcome you." Kyle got up and bowed.
"Okay. First, I am not joining the dark side, and second, you don't know how mean Ms. Paythorn is." In addition to skipping classes, Kyle has the amazing ability to get along with any teacher, especially the bad ones. The only reason Kyle hasn't been kicked out of school is because he has one of the highest grades in our year group. That and he hacked his file and put in papers claiming that he has a serious disease that leaves him weak most of the time. The crook.
"Oh Amy, I'm hurt that you think so poorly of me." He said, putting a hand on his heart. "I'm no crook. Just an honest man trying to live in a world of lies."
