Today and the past
Sometimes when we have hardships we try to replay
Things from the past to hide and run away.
We are nostalgic for times when it seemed
Easier to understand, easier to reach.
‘Today’ makes us uneasy, pierces with faults,
And shows us ‘tomorrow’ full of fright and remorse.
We perish in minds full of bizarre thoughts,
Which ride our mood on a roller-coaster with the fiercest drops.
We deceive ourselves that the past seemed preferred.
Though it had hardships there too:
Its trials faded, and scars turned askew.
It’s just that time made it simpler to subdue.
But ask yourself: do you truly want to return?
Don’t you now have hope for an unexpected turn?
Maybe something better and deeper awaits you ahead.
How would you know, if you turn your head back?
Don’t you see yourself progress from the past?
Do you truly want to return and make the same mistakes twice?
Do you think you can return with what you know now?
But it is unfair to carry back achievements with you
And see the past through a broader view.
Maybe, the past felt easier for your heart
But ‘today’ helps you see who you can become.
