Chapter 3

“Pardon?” Zac asked after what seemed like an eternity.
Christopher looked up back at him and raised an eyebrow.
“Yes?” Christopher said nonchalantly, as he stared at the pile of paperworks and files that were on his desk.
“I-” Zac started stuttering and his tongue was tied up, not believing what he just heard.
He went through so much, just to come here and find out that he was supposed to be a janitor? But he can’t complain. He needed the money after all. Something is better than nothing, he reminded himself.
“Alright, sir.” Zac said as he looked down at his shoes.
“Great!” Christopher said as he stood up and walked towards the door, with Zac following behind.
“You are to come early at exactly 4am.” Christopher opened the door wide for Zac.
“4am?” Zac asked in disbelief.
“I have things to attend to. But, you may go to Gordon. He’ll get you started.” Christopher said while smiling a bit.
“Yes sir. Thank you-” Zac was cut off as he was pushed out of the door and Christopher slammed the door behind him.
“For everything.” Zac completed his sentence with a dull face.

Zac walked around the whole area, searching for that specific man that Christopher had mentioned.
“You shouldn’t be roamin’ around, newbie.” A deep and growling voice spoke from behind him, making Zac flinch.
“Ah. So, you must be Zac Mason.” Zac slowly turned around, to find a tall and strong man, who was packed with muscles. He looked to be in his late thirties.
“H-how’d you know about me?” Zac backed away as the man kept coming closer.
“Why, everyone knows about you, my boy. A poor orphan.” The man scoffed lightly.
“Word spreads fast, doesn’t it?” Zac chuckled nervously.
The man barked into a laughter, that drew everyone’s attention. All of them looked in their direction and Zac gave them an apologetic smile.
“I’m looking for a man named Gordon?” Zac asked, in between of the man’s laughter.
“You lookin’ at him right now.” The man declared.
“Just perfect.” Zac said sarcastically. He pinched the bridge of his nose and shut his eyes tight, hoping that this was all a dream. He hated this place already.
“The man whom I admired for his heroics, turned out to be a total monster and assigning me to clean the whole department as a janitor. And when I thought that my day could get any better, I met a man who can’t even take his job seriously!” Zac yelled a bit at the end, making everyone stare at him again.
Zac chuckled nervously to relieve some of the tension building up.
Gordon, laughed loudly, and in an extremely imperinent way.
“So, the boss man assigned you as the janitor. A petty little orphan?” Gordon laughed loudly once more.
“Well, I guess even he knows that orphans ain’t good enough people.” Gordon sighed heavily.
“Is being an orphan some kind of disease here?” Zac asked sarcastically, not prepared to receive an answer.
“Yes, newbie. It is.” Gordon replied shaking his head and walked away.
