Corrin helps me up, teasing me about missing the best parts of the fight

I didn't want to tell him I had stared at Tane's daughter. Hell, I didn't want him to know I was looking at the enemy because she was hot. I am such a coward.

We crawl toward Alpha Bronze's tent. I felt the stares as we entered, even when Corrin sat me down on a chair.

Dad, still getting use to that, smiled at me as if I really was his son. He waved at the visitors, "Meet Alpha Poema Tane and her comrades. Alpha Tane, would you like to tell my son and my Beta what you're doing here?"

This was the first time I had looked at her since the battle, and she looked the same.

Her deep melted gold eyes were stubborn and oval shaped. Her gentle featured face set in a tired frown. Her short ebony hair curled into her soft chin. Her skin was tan under years of different colored scars. Her body was tall and proud, lean and powerful. Yet there seem to be little bits of pain hidden in plain view. Dark bruises under her eyes, claws dug into furry palms, even her leaning said she carried the weight of the world.

There I was, doing it again! Stop it Elun! Get it together.

Poema nods, "We're here to observe and report, nothing more. I swear we will be at our best behavior."

One of the males smirks, "Aw, you're no fun."

A female with short straight hair elbows him in the gut. He smiles at her, "Come on Fox, you know Mao needs to lighten up."

Mao? Fox glares at the boy, "Her leg hasn't even been reset yet. Mao, you should've told Alpha you couldn't make the journey."

Poema muttered, "I made it here just fine. Timber can check my leg later. Besides, pain is hard but it's only temporary." The last part made Fox growl.

The boy smacks Fox on the shoulder, "Hey, at least we're here. Remember the sand pit." He shivers, "That was a nightmare!"

The other boy smiles, "Don't forget when we got caught in a net. I had to help pull leaves out of our hair, and no one wants to touch your hair, Flax."

Flax shrugs, "Hey, no one said you had to help Ra'iarii."

Ra'iarii grins, "Come on, you didn't want Timber seeing you like that."

Flax blushes, along with a girl with white blond hair and warm eyes. The girl says, "Mao, if you would, introduce us. I need to see your leg."

Poema doesn't flinch as she stands on both legs, her face stone cold. "Ra'iarii  Rift and Lauren Briar are my Etas." Ra'iarii and a girl with violet eyes bow, bodies stiff and ready. Poema goes on, "Flax Rubble is my Tau, Fox Vine my Upsiloun, and Ash Tane my Lambda. You already know Timber's our Iota." Everyone else bows, their bodies also ridged.

What was with them and bowing? I finally notice Poema's leg, twisted at an odd angle and covered in leather. Timber asks Dad, "May I set her leg here? I don't think I should move her when the walk here was so traumatizing."

Dad nods, "Beta River will get you whatever you need."

Timber smiles, "I won't need anything."

I wait for her to take out a leather strap or herbs. Timber just sat Poema down on a chair, tan hands light on Poema's leg. Poema hisses lightly when Timber reaches near the knee. Timber nods, "Mao, it isn't broken."

Poema nods, "Good."

Timber smashes her hands down on the leg, and I flinch. I wait for the scream, wait for the shouting, but it never comes.

I look at Poema, still and stone faced. No pain in her eyes, no face being scrunched. Instead there's relief  and Poema nods at Timber. She says, "Thank you Iota Frost. This is very manageable."

Poema launches herself off the chair, acting as if nothing had happened. Dad shuts his jaw, it working back and forth as he thinks. Shit, I was thinking too.

Not only was she beautiful, but strong, very strong. But why did she need to be?
