No Escape
"Who am I going to compete with?" she deliberately maximized her voice just to make them hear her. She has been complaining to her friends but no one seemed to be interested in her.
She's a La Rivas, for Christ's sake! She should not be ignored!
"Not yet here, Heathe." One of her friends answered in quite a lazy manner.
"Who's that person? A VIP?!" Her voice was etched in irritation. She even thought of throwing the head gear she was handling.
"Maybe they got stuck in a traffic. And besides, it's still early. So calm down there, Heathe." her other friend responded.
She rolled oher eyes. The last thing she would wanna do in her life was to wait. Though she's mostly late, but she did not really want to wait. She was a VIP, she should not wait for anyone.
To be honest, if it wasn't because of a two-hectare land, she wouldn't want to compete a motorcycle race tonight. She was stunned knowing that somebody challenged her for a race. Although, she mostly raced through cars but it was as well kinda interesting to try new adventure. She agreed.
The land was her inherited farm. She could have told anyone to shove off the people that did not want to leave the land than waiting at the moment. When they sent letters to the farmers, somebody has the gut to dare her. Whether it's a boy or not, she accepted the challenge.
Nonetheless, she could have let this go and let the farmers live on the land peacefully. They owned several businesses and that little land would not be too much to lose if she would disregard it. Her family had forgotten about the property for decades that was why she could not blame the peope if they had already kept it like their own. But some business owners got interested on it because of the location. It did not occur in her mind that she would manage a farm because she was only enwrapped in one thing, racing. Since she got the authority to do everything she wanted with the property, she decided to rather sell it.
That was the short version why she ended up waiting tonight. She took a glance on her wristwatch. In all honesty, she has been waiting for ten minutes! For her it was totally a big of a deal! She could deem herself patient as soon she has waited longer than a minute, which was too much for her.
She blew the unstrung strand of her hair up impatiently. Trying to walk back and forth, her feet desisted mid step. Raging sounds of motorcycle caught their attentions. She turned around and saw three people riding on their big bikes. She grinned seeing the one with the full-gear on. Obviously, it was the one she was going to compete with. It was hard to distinguish whether it was a boy or a girl, but she did not care. The other two were not wearing helmets so she had a chance to see their faces that made her scowl.
She knew the two girls very well. They also came from wealthy families and very fond of racing cars and big bikes as well. They had several times comepeting with each other and one of those, the one who was wearing black oversized printed shirt and short shorts, was Coleene De Grazias.
She purposely stopped in front of her with her mouth twitched. "Nice to see you again in a racetrack, Heathe." Coleene teased.
She smirked, "Yeah. Let me pretend that it's been so long."
Coleen laughed in her ever irritating high-pitched tone. "A week was too long for me. And I'm still injured at this rate. But I don't wanna miss the triumph of seeing you lose again."
"You're so full of yourself, Cole." she responded dismissively as she took a glimpse of the other two that were parked meters away. "And who says I already lost from a bet?"
Coleen shrugged her shoulders while racing a brow at her. She just ignore her mischievous act. Coleen only wanted to intimidate her. Coleen could honestly say whatever she wanted to say, and she couldn't care less. And she didn't know where did Coleen get the idea that she already lost from racing where in fact she could double check from the Alta's magazine if they had such a detail.
"Can't you just start the race? Prove to everyone your words. " her friend, Lois interrupted while handing her leather jacket and gloves.
She and Coleen turned back on each other. But she once again looked at her opponent. The person indeed ready for the race. For her, when it came to a small race like this, she did not want to bother herself for a full-gear outfit. Jeans, shirt and a pair of comfy ankle boots, and the jacket which was a bonus 'coz it was quite cold tonight, were enough to make her win the race.
She's about to wear her helmet when Alesana, one of her three friends, caught her attention. "I'm dubious about that person." she started, pouting at her opponent, "I believe you can win this, but don't be over-confident. Their land was at the stake, it was where they grew up. I'm not quite certain that this person will lose tonight." she warned.
She beamed and messed up Alesana's hair like she used to do. "I know and just a reminder also that it's not really the land we're fighting for, it's their rights to live there. Thanks, anyway. Just so you know I don't underestimate people ."
Alesana nodded.
When she has worn her head gear she motioned a thumb-up to the rival group. The three girls huddled in together and they seemed made a quick group conversation.
She started her big bike and drive towards the center of the racetrack where there's a white horizontal line indicator as a starting point. Subsequently, she noticed the presence of her opponent on the left side.
Her curiosity to that person made her turn her head a little bit. From the looks of it, she was convinced that it was a boy. The way it straddled the big bike and his stands, she was definitely not wrong to observe him. However, that matter did not intimidate her. She has the skills in racing, no one could ever frighten her.
Alesana walked up to the middle in front of them. She's handling a tiny racing flag as she face them.
"Ready, fellas!" she heard her shout as she raised the flag.
On that cue, she wrenched the accelerator that brought a raging sound up. Her opponent did the same. She grinned focusing her gaze on the racing flag.
"Go!!" Alesana yelled swinging the flag down.
They both fired up the track.
A mischievous smile formed on her lips. They had just started but she was already enjoying the race. Most especially, when she noticed that she was advancing her opponent. Squeezing the accelarator, her motorcycle sped up but not yet the right timing to make it to the full-speed. She has to wait.
When she was on the curve, she was intending to block her opponent's lane. There was a tendency that her rival's speed would recede to get rid of the incoming accident. That's very risky however because who knows if the racer wouldn't want to slower the speed?
But what occured was what she was expecting. Back to the straight lane, their gap became farther. She smells the taste of victory as she approached almost on the finish line. It was her time to accelerate into full-speed.
Her lips curved into a triumphant smile. But it faded so suddenly. When she felt a brisk windblow came past her.
Through her helmet, her eyes blinked several times in disbelief. She wasn't expecting that. Their distance was too far for her opponent to get even with her but in just a split second, she was already behind.
Fury dominated all over her. This shouldn't be happening! She seethed inwardly.
She knew her timing was just good but the contender was wiser and did much better. And she became distracted even more.
One last approaching curve. Then, she saw her friends waiting for her at the finish line.
She once again tried and her distance got even with the other racer. There were dirty thoughts coming over her mind but seeing their pace, it was too complicated to apply so. She has also thought of dodging her opponent but her pride stunned her with the reality. She's not a deceiver!
As they come closer to the finish line, her chances of winning also came to a lose. She increased the accelerator and seconds left when they both reached the finish line almost even.
With a great conviction, she knew she won. She stopped, parking her ride across her friends. Removing her helmet, a grin was plastered on her face. She flipped her long straight blonde hair that fell over her shoulder as she looked proudly at her friends.
A rumbling noise abruptly stopped. They all looked to the rival group. They were not that far for her sight to escape the grin that Cole threw at her.
"We won, losers!" Cole yelled which baffled her.
She turned to her friends and they seemed to be giving her the very unbelievable answer. "What the fvck?!" she growled.
Alesana blew an air out. "It was only an inch, though." she stuttered.
Heathe raked her hand through her hair in frustation. Feeling the presence of the other group getting near them, her eyebrows pulled into a crease. Her enemy was removing the head-gear while heading towards them. It came to her mind that once she got to see the face behind the gear, she would not tllet that person to have a peaceful life. She couldn't lose from a small, pointless bet!
She arched her brow.
There she saw a long black hair got loose from the gear. She unmindfully gaped at her and like everything turned into a slowmo.
It was a girl!
A confirmation just hit her after the head-gear revealed a ravishing view.
Her three friends stared at the girl as well agape. Who wouldn't? During the race, she knew it was a boy. And then now, she's trying to convince herself that a girl like her, so innocent, could also be a thrill-lover like herself. Because looking promptly at her demeanor, there was no trace of her being haughty without the gear. The girl even looked like sweet even with her impassive face.
When she heard somebody cleared throat, she blinked averting her eyes away from that girl.
"I'm sorry to break the news but you lose, Heathe." Cole mocked.
She glared at her. "Really? Oh, that's great! But it doesn't seem to be as worse as what they usually tells. How come I feel this way? Strange." she chuckled hiding her disappointment.
Trinity, Cole's friend, shrugged off. "Well then, just a reminder that this is an agreement. And we are expecting that tomorrow, you'll announce it at the farm that you are going to let the people live there at peace. This ain't a joke, Heathe. Stick with your words."
Trinity knew so well. But she's not going to do what she has thought otherwise.
She smirked. "What do you think of me, my little Trini? A daft? Of course I'll stick to my words, silly." She called in for Alesana. "Get the papers ready by tomorrow morning. And let the farmers know that a small gathering will be held at the farm tomorrow as well."
Her friend nodded in assurance.
She looked at the three girls again only to meet the eyes of one. She's a fan of a Caucassian beauty but for the record, it suddenly changed. Seeing a drop-dead Morena for the first time.
Cole put her arm over the girl's shoulder while laughing teasingly. "So our Ayen here is the only person that could make Heathe literally bite the dust."
In any days, she would fire back a smart-ass response at her. But not tonight. Her mind only kept on repeating her name,
Ayen.
And as from what she had sworn earlier, she'll never let this girl have a peaceful life starting tomorrow.
