You've Brighten my Day

Eventhough she lost from the race, they still got to celebrate last night. And though they were done almost in the morning, she managed to get up early. She might be a crank sometimes but she proves her words. She's carrying a renowned surname that shouldn't get involved in any nasty activities. Their parents were too busy to look after her and her twin sister, however they did not take advantage of their absence. They still act accordingly because being in a prominent family takes a lot of effort to be good. If they ever had themselves to get involved in an amiss situation, they needed to find their own way of resolving it.

"Hey, Arqui. What's up?" She greeted her twin sister that was busy having a breakfast in the dining area.

Arqui turned head to her. "Hey. You were on a race last night?"

She nodded before taking the toasted bread from Arqui's plate. "Not even new, though. Why?" Her being improper sometimes gets a scolding from their mother. But she was lucky today that she could actually chew her food while talking to her sister. A habit of her.

"Daddy was looking for you. He said that he already fixed the papers of the farm in East Georgetown."

Her brows knitted. Obviously, she wasn't informed about that. She started to feel nervous thinking that it would not do any good.

"Why would dad be suddenly interested about that? He told me that I could do whatever I'd want with the land."

Arqui shrugged. "I don't know. He's there now with somebody who I think was the one interested in your farm."

A sudden need of a rush came up to her. Eventhough she pounded hard on the table, Arqui remained calm as ever. She might overact sometimes but her sister got used to it. If she always show what she really feels, Arqui was her opposite. Her ever nonchalant twin sister.

"That couldn't be! Oh my God! They must stay out of it! I gotta go!" She whined hysterically but her playful side would not change even if in this kind of situation when she took another toasted bread from Arqui's plate.

When she got out, her twin sister's car was parked in front of their house She thought of borrowing it instead than to jog-walk to their underground garage, which was not that far to be honest. She went back in to get the car key.

"Let me borrow Cobalt, please." she demanded with her open hand waiting for the car key.

"I'm about to take it to the carwash but yeah," Arqui said rummaging in her pocket then handed her the keys. "I don't know why you're so worried about that land. Where in fact you mentioned that you will not be interested in handling a farm. Maybe that was the reason why dad do the honor of selling it because it was what you have told him."

"And they should've informed me first. He gave me the authority to have it but he eventually decided what has to be done." she pouted.

Arqui gave her a shrug before she headed outside.
She drove with her car again like she always did. Arqui was not restricting her from borrowing cars. The perks of having a sweet sister who has no interest on vehicles. Arqui had received two cars from their parents but she only use one of those, Cobalt, the one that she borrowed today. And besides, Arqui did not have to worry because she was a lady mechanic. How she had loved to fix cars, set up even, since she got curious about them.

She always emulated the national road from the racetrack whenever she was driving. By that, she had put herself into a lot of trouble with the policemen most of the time because of overspeeding that she could easily circumvent. Who would arrest a minor, anyway? Her dad didn't have any idea about it, did he? Or she was right to think that he might have known it all along but constantly ignoring her bad habit. And sometimes, police authorities tend to ignore her as well. They must have been tired of chasing after her, like today.

She passed by a police mobile where two policemen were leaning against the hood. They saw her but chose to shrugged it off even if she honked the horn to them.

Their reflection from the rearview mirror made her grin. She's fond of fooling around with them!

It was a twenty-minute drive to get to the farm. There were three ostentatious vehicle parked along the way where she parked Arqui's Hummer. She easily noticed the black Ford which was his father's company car.

She alighted immediately wearing the shades she got from the glove compartment. The sun was raging hot but she basically had to cover her eyes than her skin. If she only had a choice, she would rather stay inside her room cooled around with the full-blast aircon, but she had to get important things done today.

She walked-jogged past the farmers who were staring intently at her. But instead of getting feared off by them, she prefered to have the gut to smirk.

There she saw under the nipa hut, her father discussing something with the other farmers. She even saw two men which she assumed as her father's client. The ones Arqui was talking about earlier. As soon as she got nearer, she heard that their discussion seemed on the verge of heat. They were wearing serious faces but her father was somehow carried on his composure.

"Dad.." she called to get his attention.

The farmers abrutly stopped from talking. They looked at her and her dad smiled a little.

"I'll just have a word with my daughter. If you'll excuse me." Her father told the farmers.

She could feel a tension radiating off of his father. Not that he was to get angry with her. She knew him very well, she just have to explain her side tenderly and he would understand.

"Honestly, I was surprised. I didn't know that you've made such a decision. Maybe I was too selfish not to think about the farmers who have dedicated their lives to take care of this land. That's why I totally understand their anger when I told them about the land being sold." Mayor La Rivas stated which kinda confused her at first.

"And dad~"

"I know, Heathe. They mentioned that you lost from a race, having this land at stake. I'm not really happy about the race but I'm glad that you've been considerate way better than I was. So, I'm deciding to retract our amicable settlement and let you do what should be done to clear things up." he continued.

As what she had in her mind, he would understand him. When was the time that her parents got really mad at her? There seemed none. Not even when they had learned about her sexuality, they didn't contradict. On which might be the reason why she kept on being stubborn.

She beamed at him. "Thanks, dad. But.. how.. how about.." She pursed her lips towards her dad's associates.

He tapped her shoulder. "I can handle them. Besides, they didn't sign any contract yet. Thankfully, they were still studying the area when we found out about the issue."

She blew an air up her face and her dad cracked up shaking his head.

"I'll just talk to them and let them know that you're taking over." He did not wait for her answer as he went back to the flock of farmers.

While she had to wait for another command from her daddy. By doing so, she thought of calling Alesana. Her friend wasn't there yet and she needed the contract already.

She made that contract for the farmers who did not want to leave her land. She had done a race to give authorization to the people there and it also comes with certain conditions.

"Where are you?" She asked.

[ I'm on my way. Just got done with the contract. We were drunk up until the morning so don't chastise me why it's late.] Alesana explained right away.

She chuckled. Her friends knew her a lot. "Alright. Dad's here with some associate who are interested in buying this land. But we've had a talk and he knew about the race."

[ Oh my, what did he say? ]

"Of course, he understood. That's why I'm confirming where you are now. Because they will leave here any moment."

She was suddenly distracted and forgot that Alesana was still speaking on the other line when she her attention was caught by the drop-dead gorgeous contender she had ever met. Even from afar, her fairness vanquished. She could not classify her as a farm girl, although the girl  was wearing farmer's attire. And she oddly found that very charming.

She interrupted Alesana from blabbering just to end the call. She put the phone back to her pants pocket before treading towards the lone girl.

She cleared her throat causing her to jolt which made her chuckle as well. Ayen refrained from piling up the crops to turn to her.

"H-hi!" She felt a kind of tizzy as soon as she met her eyes.

Ayen's brows rose for a moment then all of a sudden rolled eyes at her before turning back to what she has been doing.

She was stunned.

Nobody had the right to roll eyes at her without getting punished in return! The fact that she went near her without a purpose and that they were not friends made her curse herself. What did she want with her anyway?

"You should at least respect me even if you won the race last night." she hissed.

She heard her breathed out slothfully and turned back to her once again.

She might be mad but that doesn't mean she would let this chance to pass to study the sight that's too beautiful to stare at. Crossing her arms over her chest, she also arched her brow while staring at her with an obvious mockery.

"What else do you need, Your Highness?"  Ayen gave her a curtsy. Clearly teasing her as well.

She sneered. "Too respectful. I like your sense of humor, huh? Anyway, like I said I'm here to prove my words."

"Oh, you don't really need to say it directly to me. You should have saved your spit and have talked to the our leader instead." she mumbled.

She bit her lower lip as she tried not to get pissed by the way this girl answered her. She did not want to have a heated argument with anybody today but if Ayen was trying her patience, all hell would break loose.

And she's too stubborn to stop, nonetheless. "Since my father's already discussing it with the other farmers, so I figured you also need to know it because you're not participating with them." She pointed towards the horde.

They both looked at them and Ayen nodded in realization. But it did not escape from her sight the taunting look on the girl's face.

"Well, if you failed to notice, I am not the only one that's not participating. Does it mean that you have to go around and tell each and everyone of us about our agreement?"

"Oh my God! I can't believe I'm talking to you." she blurted out, losing her self-restraint.

"I'd say the same. Tell you what, why don't you just do whatever important you need to do or might as well go back to your palace and stay there forever. In fact, someone so sensitive like you may get allergies by going here."

When she failed to rebutt, Ayen continued what she was doing before she decided to pester her. She thought to withdraw because she must admit, she would lose if she continued pissing her off. A girl with an attitude lurked into that innocent face. Just unbelievable!

She watched her as she carefully stacked up the crops to each baskets. Eventhough she was not expert of how it was done, she was amazed by just how fast Ayen was working on it. Looking on how she was working hard as a farm girl made her think that somehow, she was not wrong for giving them consideration.

Then it also hit her that there were things that really hard to just let go especially the ones that's worth for them but nothing for her. Those farmers believed that their lives were just on it. They deserved to have it.

And they must be thankful to this girl named Ayen, for being brave enough to take a risk fighting for their right to stay in this farm.

When Alesana arrived, she turned away. Leaving the beautiful girl behind with a smile on her lips.
