Just The Way You Are

unFORTUNATEly
She cringed feeling the pain on her back. She slowly opened her eyes just to see an unfamiliar view of an apple green room. Totally confused, she pulled herself up and quickly went back down when she felt a massive pain on her head.

What the hell?

She grumbled in pain realizing that she has been on a hard bamboo bed. She couldn't remember how she managed to sleep on that hard bed. She could not even remember what she was doing inside that room, either!

She took a glimpse on her wristwatch, her sight was a bit blurry so she has to blink for a few times. It's fifteen to eleven in the morning. She let out a sigh and rolled over to lay her back when she heard the soft creaking of the door. Somebody opened it.

There, her human Advil appeared wearing trousers and a plain green t-shirt.

She smiled and forced herself to sit upright. Even if she still wanted to lay back down because she felt painfully dizzy, she just tried to ignore it. She did not want to look like a loser in front of Ayen.

"Oh! You're awake, Your Highness." Ayen utterre the best morning greet she has ever heard.

She did not flinched toward her mock and kept the smile on her lips. "Good morning too, Ayen." she jested.

Ayen went completely inside the room and slowly closed the door behind her. That practically made her think of another wisecrack.

"Could we have our breakfast first before we even get into something here?" she chaffed, wiggling hee brows.

Ayen's jaw dropped momentarily before glaring at her. "You! So full of yourself! You're already awake and yet you're still into some kind of illusion." she hissed.

Heathe's starting to enjoy the friendly conversation as well as the morning view inside the room. "You didn't even need to close the door. What do you want me to think, then?"

Ayen ushered toward her, while she was keeping herself from laughing so hard because the girl in front of her was wearing an indefinable expression on her face.

"Just a reminder, Miss Heather La Rivas. Doesn't mean that you are the owner of the land which our house is situated, I have to get scared of you. For me, you are still nothing but an ordinary person like us. You're just lucky to have a wealthy parents. So, be prepared and expect that I'll always retaliate whenever you throw foolishness to me."

Instead of getting mad from her hurtful parlance, all she did was to hold on her shoulders and tried to calm her. Surprisingly, Ayen didn't resist.

Nonetheless, her headache was somehow getting ratchet down. "Chill, okay? I don't even do you any harm."

"Oh, really? So, why did you have to go back here right after our battle? You are actually bothersome, you know that?"

She scoffed touching her left chest while feigning a hurt expression. "Ouch! That hurts. I'm just being friendly. Is something wrong with that?"

Slowly, she noticed that Ayen's facial expression softened. She seemed to feel yearned over what she said.

"So what are you really doing here?" All of a sudden, her voice dropped down a note.

She didn't hear her sing a song last night but when she spoke softly that way, it was a bit of a husky voice, so sexy. Does she sing like that as well? She must find out.

"As what I've said, I just want to befriend you. And you're too hospitable that I want to escalate it right away to being bestfriends." she answered full of sarcasm.

"If you're not going to talk to me properly, it's going to be bad." she warned while shooting daggers at her.

She raised both of her hands in surrender. "Okay, okay. You have to chill, as well. You look like you'rw always into a fight."

"Let me remind you that we are actually enemies."

She cocked her head on one side. "Wait a minute. The battle was already over. Could you move on?"

Ayen stared at her for a moment, as if assimilating what she said. And then she said, "My father once told me that nobody from the La Rivas clan put any interest on this land, anymore. No one even visited here for a almost a decade. So it is confusing that a heiress suddenly goes here just to befriend with me? I might consider your reason only if we didn't come from a competition."

"Wow. Such a judgemental person." She blew her cheeks out in disbelief. "Can't I befriend you?"

Ayen looked at her as if something was wrong from what she said. So she thought she has to rephrase her question. "I mean, not just you. All of you here, of course. I want to make amends with everyone as I am going to look after the farm. If what worries you are the days that nobody seemed to be interested to manage this land, because I was still young that time. This land was named after me since I was seven. And I had no idea way back then on how to handle this properly."

"Somebody should have assisted you."

"Well, I didn't know what my father was thinking but he said that it was all up to us how to handle what we have inherited from the family. They are not in control even if they still have the right to. They're weird." She chuckled but the moment she noticed that Ayen was seriously looking at her, she cleared throat.

Ayen did not response. If anything, she would have wanted her to talk eventhough it's actually threatening than watching her as quiet as what she was at the moment. Cause she could only feel she was talking to nobody.

"Hey!" she snapped her fingers. "I know you're being mesmerized by what you see on me. But don't be too obvious."

And as quick as the windblow, Ayen responded, "You wish!"

Ayen earned a shrilled laugh from her. Miraculously, she was fine. All it took for her headache to go away was to tease Ayen.

Ayen turned back and was about to open the door when she stopped her. "Wait!"

The girl turned to her again with such impatient etched on her beautiful face. "What?"

"We'ee friends, right?" she asked again and sauntered toward her extending her hand.

Ayen's eyes flickered from her hand through her face. When their eyes met, she hasn't seen anything from hers. The girl took a deep breath and looked to the other direction. She was to lose hope when Ayen finally shook hands with her.

"Not bad." Ayen added which made her laugh.

The moment she went outside the room, she was greeted by the clatterings of the kitchen utensils. When she looked to the kitchen, the entire family was already gathered their. They seemed to be having their lunch.

When she met the eyes of the woman whom she knew was Ayen's mother, she smiled shyly. The woman waved at her, gesturing her to come to them. She greeted everyone as soon as she got close to them. Ayen had a big family.

They told her that they thought she was still asleep that's why no one bothered her to wake up. It made her wondered why Ayen did not tell them that she just came to that room. She looked at her but she only averted her eyes away.

She met everybody last night. Ayen's grandfather was the one who invited her last night to join with them and he was also the one asking her so many questions. Nothing really complicated so it was all cool.

A guy, who she thought was Ayen's second eldest brother drew a chair out. She was going to sit beside Ayen and she felt odd about it. Not that really bad, though. When she was about to sit, Ayen was supposed to have her spoonful of meal. She purposely dodged her a bit which made her hand failed to shove the spoonful to her mouth. Some of the contents fell so she earned a glare from her.

"Sorry," she apologised with a hint of sarcasm.

Ayen shook her head with, she could tell, something was going around her mind at the moment.

"You're in the mood, Ayen! Why don't you mind your visitor first than your meal?" Ayen's mother blurted.

"She's not my visitor, 'ma." Ayen answered as soon as she swallowed her food. "Besides, doesn't she have hands on her own?" she seethed glaring at her once again.

She just found herself an ally out of her mother. As much as she wanted to laugh but since they were in front of the dining, she let her table manners remained. "I'm fine, ma'am." She smiled instead and started putting vegatables on her plate. The food looked so delicious, good thing that she wasn't that hungry or she could not stop herself.

"My! This child." The woman giggled while waving her hand out. "Just call me Auntie Irina. I'm not used to being called ma'am. And in fact, you're our boss."

"Alright, A-Auntie Irina." She agreed a bit reluctant. "But please, don't think that I'm your boss. We are all the same ordinary people here." She added eyeing Ayen while emphasizing her last words.

"Okay. But what we have to do now is to eat. I cooked a lot just for you, Heathe." The woman dismissed.

She mouthed a thank you. But it made her realized if they knew how much glutton she could be that's why they prepared a lot of meal? Embarrassing.

"Are you on a diet?" Ayen nudged her after a while.

"Is that a pick up line?" She whispered.

"Ha-ha-ha. You are indeed funny." she scorned. "Anyway, don't be shy. Just eat a lot. I know that you are nothing but voracious."

Her eyes broadened. "W-what the.."

Ayen could be the meanest person she ever met. They had known each other but she always picked on her. And she was not really afraid of saying rude things to her. Unbelievable!

Ayen snapped her fingers and pointed her afterwards. "Gotcha! I know you are a glutton. So here.." Ayen stood up halfway just to get the bowl which has a variety of cooked vegetables in it. Then added some on her plate.

She couldn't refuse especially when she noticed that her entire family was looking at them. Her lips stretched into a forced smile.

When Ayen went back on her seat, she uttered. "She's starving. She was just shy to show it."

They both turned to each other.

"Get ready for my revenge." she said between her gritted teeth on which she only earned a grin from Ayen.

The lunch from the Santiago's was not as quiet as what they usually had in their own house. Not that she's saying they didn't have table manners. It's just that her mother was strict when it comes to that. However, she was amused to see the normal set up of such family. She enjoyed their company. Honestly, it was satisfying to eat when you're doing it with someone while talking things that would all make you laugh. Actually, she and her twin sister sometimes do it, only if their mother was not around.

If she could only stay at the farm, she was more than willing to. She hadn't felt so fun as that as ever.

After having their lunch, Ayen left immediately but she followed her. She couldn't stay with her family without her presence. Ayen must have not thought that she was after her. In fact, she was whistling out a tune while walking.

Just the way you are, huh? She smiled inwardly.

She remembered that it was the song she requested for her to play with her guitar last night. Ayen's face was priceless because she knew she was only picking on her. She was not yet drunk that time so it's still clear on her memory that she was staring at her while singing out every lyrics.

She was the one who only sang the song so it seemed that she was actually serenading the girl. She didn't fail to notice the scrutinizing gazes from the people around them. That could be another thing why Ayen was so pissed off early this morning.

Her thoughts were interrupted when something hit her face. Unfortunately, her left eye was hurt by its edge. "Ahh!" She squeaked rubbing her eye. She even stoop down as her eyes started to be teary. It was so damn hurt that she wanted to run to a hospital.

"W-what happened to you?" An anxious voice distracted her for a moment.

But she could respond because her eye hurt. She felt a hand clutching her chin and carefully pulling her face up. It seemed that both of her eyes were already as they both teary and blurry at the same manner.

"Oh no!" Ayen's shriek was clear.

Then she felt her soft hand touch her hand that covered her left eye. She was not supposed to feel stranged but the moment Ayen touched her hand, some magic has worked out. Thousand of bolts circulated around her nerves in an instant that made her feel so alive.

"Did something get into your eye?"

She couldn't utter a word. She was aware that Ayen was only an inch away from her face and she was carefully blowing on her eye to remove something which she thought wouldn't help, though. But somehow, what she was doing was diverting her away from pain. Ayen even wiped her wet face, softly.

Oh my God! What are you doing to me, Ayen?

"You should have worn shades. There's a lot of things around here in farm. Some may inevitably go in your eyes or hit you. Like this." Ayen explained using her soft side again. The she picked up something and raised it up. "This could be it. Tss." She added whilst shaking her head.

It was nice to know that she couldn't be grumpy at her all the time. It also made her think to bump into mishaps once more so that Ayen would stay sweet like this. How odd was it for her to think that way?

Ayen released a deep breathe impatiently. And for the second time this day, she held her hand once again. They went back to where the house was. For a girl like Ayen who grew up in the farm doing a lot of things, she couldn't believe she owned a soft hand. Was she really working at the farm or was she just some spoiled brat as her? Nonetheless, what mattered to her was their set up. Even under the harsh sunrays she could feel her face was blushing. She was gushing over the realization that Ayen was holding her hand.

Ayen didn't resist when she slowly tightened the grip for her own benefit. And it was like whimsical moment that she wouldn't wanna let go.
