New Friends
The Half Bridge
The Escape
Saved
Thea's Class
Saved
It had been two weeks since I was saved and I could barely believe how far the world had evolved in the years I was gone. It was kinda sad looking at all the things that had happened. My dog had died, all my friends were older than me, even old Mrs. Jenkins was gone. All lost to the seas of time. After all, like they say, Time is a cruel master.

But with all negative things comes positive things. The old junkyard had been replaced with a flourishing community garden, my old school bully finally got therapy and it was found out that he was just sad cause he too, was bullied. Even the terrible Mc. Donalds had been torn down and replaced with a Spaghetti Factory with rather good service.

It was nice to see an older version of Thea, and her new friend was very … interesting. Her parents were the infamous Nightshade and Black Shadow. I could tell that she had many of their evil traits, but I wasn't going to tell her that. To be honest I didn't trust her one bit but I saw she had great potential, potential to be a greater hero than Thunder Strike himself if she really wanted to. I, of course, kept these thoughts to myself, as they might disrupt any friendship with Umbra.

. . . . . .

I couldn’t believe Merilyn was back! I mean, she was gawking at the world and looking super weird, but otherwise, I was glad she was back. It was so hard, living with the knowledge I couldn’t have helped her.

It was weird. Once we got back, she was rapidly aging until she got to be 13. Her hair grew longer than her own height, which happened to be 5 ‘2. Her skin tanned before our very eyes. Then something happened that surprised us all.

Her sense of sight was lost, replaced with huge silver eyes staring into nothingness. She had even more powers than she had before. More powers that were beyond the future. Beyond even me, and as it turns out, her favorite food was different. It was waffles. Before, it was chicken, watermelon and Mac & Cheese.

. . . . . . .

I stared suspiciously at this … Merilyn girl… there was something about her that just didn't seem right. I didn’t have time to puzzle over it, though. It was time for school. I walked over to Thea’s house … well not walked more … flew. I turned into a tiny bluish black dragonfly and flew to Thea's house.

. . . . . .

As I got ready for the first day of school, I thought about what happened in the past. I thought about how I could have turned into a dragon. I mean, I don’t have the power to shapeshift. At least, I thought I didn’t. Suddenly, I heard this tapping at the window and I went to check it out. On the windowsill, there was a tiny bluish black dragonfly. Knowing that blue and black were Umbra’s colors, I quickly opened the window and she flew in.

. . . . . . .

When Thea opened the window I rushed in, I couldn't wait to tell her what happened.

“Thea!!” I yelled, turning back into a human “You won't believe what happened!!”

I started talking so fast that Thea had to stop me and slow me down.

I took a deep breath in and began.

“I was just wandering around at like 1:00 in the morning last night … when I found THIS!!”

I opened a portal to my room and grabbed a tiny grey and black cat with a black, tear drop shaped, pendant around its neck. It had incredibly fluffy fur and unusually large ears.

. . . . . . . .

“Aww. It’s so cute!” I exclaimed, “can I hold it?”

. . . . . . .

In response to her question I handed her the small fluffy cat.

. . . . . .

I picked up the cat and put it in my lap it curled up and fell asleep.

. . . . . . . .

I woke up expecting to see, rather sense, Thea bustling about, but instead, I sensed her sleeping with Umbra above her, looking stunned. As I looked toward Thea, I noticed that in her lap was a Darionite otherwise known as a Sleeping Cat, a kitten that causes heros to fall asleep leaving them unable to defend their city. Thinking quickly, I ripped the cat out of her hands. My mom is a hero and my dad is or was a villain so I didn't fall asleep.

“Do you have any idea what you almost did?” I asked, directing my question to Umbra.

. . . . . . . .

“No?” I said, slightly offended by the tone of her voice. The cat grinned and a pair of leathery black wings sprung from its back.

I paused and watched as it hovered above me then turned into a black bracelet curling up my arm.

The bracelet had a fur texture carved into its shimmering black metal. Lapis lazuli stones curled around its back and sat in the metal cats eyes.

I was entranced by the stones. They almost seemed to stare at me. I curled deeper into the spiraling entrancement, when Marilyn slapped me straight across the face.

As you could guess it immediately broke me out of my trance. I pressed my hand to the purplish black imprint she left on my face, that girl was stronger than I thought … Or I was weaker than I thought.

The thought made me angry

“OW!!” I yelled at her, furrowing my brow.

. . . . . . .

“You almost let Thea fall asleep in the same trance you were just in,” I said as calmly as I could, “do you wanna know how I could hold it without falling asleep?”

. . . . . .

“Yes … Also how is this possible … I'm no hero I shouldn’t be entranced by it.” Before I said this I could still feel tiredness lingering, but after I made that statement, all sleepiness was driven from my system.

. . . . . .

“You wanna know,” I said, “so I will show you.”

I pulled up my sleeve, showing her my Darionite.

“I was given this by my father, The Terrorizer.” I said.

. . . . . .

The metal cat she showed me was silver with peridot snaking down it. Silver and green, her colors.

. . . . . . . .

“What happened?” I asked waking up, “all I remember is that cat and then everything went dark.”

I noticed Merilyn and Umbra looked at each other, looking concerned.

. . . . . . . .

“You fell asleep, we should really head over to school.” I said, picking up my backpack and tearing a hole in space and time directly to our school.

. . . . . . . . .

“Yeah. We should get to school,” I said, feeling confused. I grabbed my backpack and headed through the portal. Imperium Academy, (IA for short), wasn’t what I had expected. The walls were white but somehow they were every color ever. I could see pink, green, blue any color you could think of. The main colors were green, blue and white. When we got inside, it looked like a rainbow, each hallway a different color depending on power. The ceiling was high for those who could fly and I guessed that a lot of people could fly. The hallways were wide so speedsters didn't bump into each other while running.

    “Thea!” Liz yelled behind me.

“Liz!” I yelled back. “How have you been?” I asked.

“I’ve been good,” she replied, “cool friend. I mean I’ve heard bad things from Derrick, but I know his words are lies.”

“Good. Just ignore the bully,” I replied.

“Hey, Thea,” April said behind me.

“It’s nice to see you, April,” I said, smiling.

“It’s nice to see you too,” she replied, “I see you’ve been busy, making new friends. I actually quite like children of villians.”

“Hello, Thea,” Maryan said, her voice full of excitement. Her face was tan and her eyes were brown with flecks of gold, “are you ready?”

“Thea,” a familiar voice said behind me.

“Chris,” I said, a familiar feeling of butterflies in my stomach. His hair was sandy blonde. His eyes were crystal blue, like the ocean. His fair skin and muscular body made me blush. That particular day he was wearing a blue shirt and black pants. I instantly started blushing.

. . . . . . . .

I watched as Thea reunited with her friends, feeling lost. She had so many friends and I felt more left out than I ever had before.

“Thea,” I said, calmly, “why don't you introduce me to your friends.”

. . . . . . . .

I stared at the girl that was with Thea. She looked just like my type.

“What’s up?” I asked.

. . . . . . . .

I looked at her shyly and pulled back my long hair to reveal several ear piercings.

. . . . . . . .

“Sick!’ I said. I really was starting to like this girl. “What’s your name?” I asked.

. . . . . . . .

“ER-Erm ummmmm ….” I stuttered, “Umbra.”

This girl seemed so cool! She was the type of girl that as soon as you saw her you knew you wanted to meet. It was almost as if she had a gold star over her head.

A bluish-black blush quickly spread over my cheeks.

. . . . . . . .

“I like that name. Umbra. Hmm. Aren’t you the daughter of those two villains? That's even cooler!” I brushed back my short black and green hair to show that I too had multiple ear piercings, most noticeably, a silver arrow.

. . . . . . . .

I gazed at her ears with curiosity… I know i’ve seen that symbol before.

. . . . . . . .

“You like ‘em?” referring to the silver arrows going through my ears. “My dad gave them to me. He’s a normal guy who married a hero. My mom was born to two villains, but she rebelled.” The arrows were my mom’s sign, but I didn’t tell her that. My mom had died when I was very young. Her parents had finally caught up to her, and my dad wasn’t able to save both of us.

. . . . . . . .

I turned a deeper shade of blue-black and nodded.

“W-what's your n-name?” I asked. UGH I was so embarrassed. I HATE my stutter.

I gritted my teeth and covered my blushing face with my hands and long hair.

. . . . . . . .

I crossed my arms and smiled. “April Shadowhunter, elements of combat and intelligence.”

. . . . . . . .

I looked at her and uncovered my face. And theeeen Derrick.

“HAH” he said with a sickly smile. “LOOKS LIKE THE LITTLE SHADOW GIRL HAS A NEW CRUSH”

He shoved me into April. I punched him in the nose … simple as that.

Red hot sticky blood coated my knuckles. Derick looked at me with a horrified expression and quickly retreated.

“THATS RIGHT!” I screamed at him, “RUN!! RUN AWAY TO YOUR MOMMY!!!” I had had enough of him. It took all my strength to refrain from chasing after him.

I looked at my knuckles, turned the blood to black essense and absorbed it, it felt nice.

I realized who was standing next to me and looked April in the eyes. My face turned dark blue-purple and I ran away and hid in a closet.

. . . . . . . .

“What was that about?” I asked Thea..

. . . . . . . .

“That was something that happened in the past. It’s nothing really,” I replied, hoping that she wouldn’t go crazy again, “come on, it’s time for first period.”

First period was flying for me.

. . . . . . . .

First period was stealth for me. I wonder if Umbra is in my class?

. . . . . . . .

I stood in the back of my class, trying to avoid April. I had stealth with her. I lost track of her and jumped a mile high when she put a hand on my shoulder and greeted me.

“H-hi.” I said, turning bluer than a blueberry.

. . . . . . . .

“Hey Umbra! Where ya been? I’ve been looking all over for you!” I watched her blush. “It’s okay. Derrick’s a jerk. You learn to ignore him. I was bullied too when I first  came here. I was the original ‘little shadow girl’.”

. . . . . . . .

I nodded, maintaining my blush.

. . . . . . . .

“We’re playing hide and seek in the tech auditorium. Whoever wins gets $500! There are teams. You can be on mine, if you like.”

. . . . . . . .

I nodded a little bit too eagerly then blushed and walked forward.

“Thanks.” I said.

. . . . . . . .

“Well it’s settled then! Here comes team Shadowhunter to join the game!” I shouted to the instructor, a portly man with a large mustache.
