The Escape
I followed after her, soaring in the sky. Soon I found her, kneeling at the feet of… My dad?

“Thunder Strike, please don’t hurt her,” I yelled, “she’s my friend.”

He looked up at the sky and Umbra flew away. I followed her and soon I heard Thunder Strike following behind me.

“You, girl,” he called, “stop right there!”

“If you want me to stop her,” I yelled back, my tone portraying my annoyance. “Don’t stop me! Umbra, please, snap out of it. I need you!”

. . . . . .

I heard Thea and her father trailing after me but I couldn't stop. I increased my speed, gliding on black and blue wings. Thunder Strike would get me I just knew it. He and Thea were working together to bring me down. I knew she would turn against me. It was only a matter of time. Suddenly, I heard a roar behind me. A dragon roar. I looked over my shoulder and Thea was gone, replaced with a dragon. A red dragon. I suddenly knew I couldn’t out race her and I came to a sudden realization that today I would die. Another feeling coursed through my veins, a determination to escape. My skin felt hot and cold at the same time, yet somehow tingly and with a slight popping noise I grew to an incredible size.

“STOP!” a voice beneath me yelled, “Stop or someone will die. Violence is NEVER an option.”

I stopped in my tracks. A power coursing over me.

. . . . . . . .

I heard a voice below me, and I suddenly stopped in my tracks. I flew to the ground and turned into myself again. Standing in front of me was Merilyn. Merilyn the one I haven’t seen in forever. It was overpowering the way she had stopped us. A few feet away, I saw Umbra, back in her normal body.

“Umbra, let go of your hunger for humans. Don’t turn into your parents. You’re so much better than them. Don’t rely on pure power. All you need is friends. Friends who love you for who you are,” Merilyn said, “let go of the hate in your soul. You are not going to be like your parents. You’re going to be like yourself.”

. . . . . .

The words filled me with a warm feeling, a feeling I had never felt before. It was … nice. I crumpled to the ground, near to passing out. My energy was completely drained. I felt my body hit the ground, then everything went black.

. . . . . .

I saw Umbra fall to the ground and rushed toward her. “UMBRA!!!” I screamed.

“She's fine, just passed out … lets go home” Marilyn said calmly.

“O-ok,”I said.

“Hello. I’m still here,” Thunder Strike said, annoyed.

“Oh yeah. Right. Ummmm… you can go home now,” I said.

. . . . . .

I woke up on somebody's couch wearing a dark magenta nightgown. I looked out the window. It was late at night. I checked my watch it was 4:30 A.M. I figured we should head back to the future.

“Thea?” I called into the night

. . . . . . .

I heard Umbra call my name and I rushed into where she was.

“Umbra!” I called running up and giving her a huge bear hug, “you’re finally awake.”

. . . . . . .

I squeaked when she gave me a hug and hugged her back.

“Wait … finally woke up. How long has it been?” I asked.

. . . . . . .

“It’s been 3 days,” I answered, “we should get back home. I can tell that I’ve been missed at home.”
