Chapter One
School is what they call hell, or at least I call it hell. A place you go to get educated, but yet meet all the snobs that you never knew existed. Of course, I like to keep it that way. Pretending they don't exist is better than having them judging you every single minute of every single day that you walk through those front doors. So glad to be going back to that hell hole...not.

The sun's bright rays slice through my curtains. Its vibrant rays hitting my eyes. I swing my legs over my bed and get up, already fully dressed. My hair lays across my narrow shoulders, curled slightly but ready for anything that comes my way today. I grab my bag and head downstairs. As soon as I reach the bottom step, I see my mother sitting in the kitchen, sipping her coffee while she reads one of her many Women's Health magazines.  My little sister sits across from her, waiting for me.

"Ready?" I asked her, grabbing my jacket from the coat rack. She smiles and nods, standing up from her spot. My mother smiles at her from across the table, not speaking a word to either of us yet. My poor sister start her first first day  high school today. She is most likely going to get crushed. But there is also a slight chance she won't since I am her amazing protective older sister. Plus I have taught her about surviving her first year of high school and how to survive the snobs.

We walk out to my car and I unlock it. Elena opens the door, crawling into the passenger side seat. I get in, sitting behind the wheel, setting my things in the back seat. Elena does the same as I start-up the car. I then back out of the driveway, starting our journey to school.

"So Elena, are you excited?" I asked in a motherly tone, looking over at her with a slight smile, holding back some laughter.

"A bit. Mostly nervous though. I need to have a good first impression on my teachers, otherwise, they'll hate me and assign a shit load of homework throughout the entire year. And ain't nobody got time for that," Elena replied, folding her hands in her lap and laughing nervously.

"You don't really have nothing to worry about. Half of the teacher's are chill. It's just most of the freshmen teachers that are total bitches. But still, not much to worry about," I remarked, probably making her even more nervous.

"And that totally makes we feel so much better," she groaned, rolling her eyes and sinking down into the seat. Elena is definitely a miniature version of me. Which probably worries my mom since she already has to deal with me. But the one thing that keeps us different is her wanting to make a good impression on teachers. I am never too worried about that. But she is always constantly worrying about what people think about her. She just needs to relax. Let's just hope that she doesn't get Mister Wolff for Algebra because I made a super bad impression on him and he would probably make Elena's life a living hell.

I turn onto Parker Avenue and glance out my window. Josh Smith, the school's newest jock, walks down the street. He moved in over the summer and is already the captain of the football team. I only know these things because Jess, my best friend, drags me to every football game and practice. Her boyfriend Ryan is on the team and he was the old captain until Josh took over his spot this summer. Which means that Jess is not very fond about Josh.

As he looks over at me, I get this weird feeling in my chest. It's not butterflies or hatred, but the feeling that he is my kind, a werewolf. Yes, before you ask anything, I am a werewolf, not a dog. I am not your normal sweet teenager driving her little sister to school. No, I am this creature that shifts into half human half wolf. My senses are better than any normal humans. It all started the summer when I was thirteen. I was out at night and an alpha came by, scared the living shit out of me and bit me.

At first, I joined his pack, thinking I had a new group of people to call my family, but one night a year ago, they decided to go hunting at a beach party. A bunch of people I knew from school was there. I didn't want to kill anyone. I was against killing people I knew, even if they were preppy. But the leader, Ricardo, told me that if I didn't go out killing with the pack that I would no longer be apart of the pack, so I left. Before they could even go out hunting, I left his pack. And he swore revenge as I walked away.

Then later that night, his pack was on the run from the police. I watched them as they ran out-of-town, and after that I knew that he would be after me once he returned. But so far he has not returned, but I know that as soon as I say something he'll appear back in town. Which he's pretty much a wanted criminal if he returns. They will catch him and send him to prison.

But for now, my mission is to find out if Josh is a werewolf and what pack he is in. I will also have to find out if he is an Alpha, a Beta or an omega. Guess it's time to stalk the new boy. But by the looks of it, this golden blonde wolf looks like an alpha. He has the muscles and the figure of an alpha, but of course, we cannot judge someone by their looks. He could well be a normal human who works out in his spare time.

We get to school a short while later. I park the car and shut it off. Elena opens the door, hopping out. She then grabs her things before waiting for me to get out. I quickly grab my things from the backseat before getting out of the car. As I get out of the car, Josh and his brother enter the school grounds. I lock the car and then focus my attention back on them. Josh's eyes cross over mine for a second, a slight smirk playing at his lips. I just roll my eyes and walk into the school with Elena.

"So, where are we picking up our schedules again?" Elena asked, hugging her binder to her chest and maneuvering around the large crowd of people.

"Front office, Miss Tilly. She's like super nice, so you won't need to worry about her biting your head off," I laugh, following her in the crowd of people. We then make our way to the office. There are a lot of people here. Usually, there isn't as much people. There must be a bunch of new freshmen coming in this year.

Once we reach the office, Elena and I stand in line behind all these people. Most of them look like freshmen. There's a boy wearing his color-coordinated athletic gear. A girl wearing a very revealing crop top and messy eyeliner. Yep, you can that they are freshmen. Trying their best to it in.

After a few minutes we are closer to getting our schedule. There is only one person in front of Elena. That person finishes up and Elena walks up to Miss Tilly, telling her name. Miss Tilly quickly digs up her schedule and Elena thanks her before walking off. Time for me to get mine now. All good teachers I hope. If I am stuck with a teacher that is going to drive me insane then I will lose it.

"Welcome back Kat, here you go. Glad to see your sister," Miss Tilly speaks, handing me the piece of paper that has my classes on it.

"Thanks, Miss," I smile, taking the paper from her and walking out. Elena has already found a group of her friends, so I will leave her be with them. I look at my schedule, seeing that I have Mrs. Stonebrim for first. She is a very rude teacher who teaches history. I really don't like her and she doesn't like me. Talk about bad luck.

"Hey, I recognize you," I heard a deep voice speak. I quickly turn my head and see Josh, walking up to me with a huge smirk on his face. Does this boy ever not smirk?

"Well, I don't recognize you," I reply coldly, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Right. You totally weren't the girl sitting up there on the bleachers over the summer with the loud blonde hair chick. The chick who has tried killing me twice already," Josh replied.

"What do you want?" I asked, "I need to get to class and I would rather not be late on the first day of school."

"To introduce myself. I'm Josh, Josh Smith," he smiled, holding out his hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you Josh, but on a normal daily basis, no random stranger walks up to me wanting to be my friend, so really, what do you want?" I asked.

"So I'm a friend already?" Josh questioned, the smirk coming back and  his eyebrow-raising a bit.

"Oh my gosh, no. And I'm Kat for your information," I huff, rolling my eyes at him. I then turn around and get ready to walk off.

"Okay, sorry. Geez, you're feisty," he retorted.

"I'm not feisty," I snarl, walking away from him.

"See you later Kat!" he called. I just ignore him, shaking my head and walking to my next class. Great, it's the first day and I already have a jock being, well being a jock to me. Let's just hope the rest of the day goes well and that mister blonde jock doesn't bug me. There is definitely something up with him. I turn around a bit to look back at him but he is already gone.

"So, Kat, I heard you have first period with the new blonde devil. How was it?" Jess asked, looking up from her food at me. She wears a large smile along with some of her chicken rice.

"I don't know. I sat on the opposite side of the room. I didn't want to be near him," I replied, taking a sip of my drink.

"Good girl. Because I really hate him for taking my Ryan Boo's place as Football captain. He's new, why does he even get the spot? Doesn't he have to earn it" Jess asked, stealing one of Ryan's fries.

"Of course he has to earn it. But he's a beast on the field. His throw is like on point," Ryan, replied, "my throw is off by a whole lot."

"And I'm sure coach only wants the best of the best to be his captain. Not saying you stink at throwing a ball, Ryan. I've seen you play football even since seventh grade, " I state, throwing a look at Jess. Jess just smile innocently and kisses Ryan's cheek.

"I'm sure you'll earn your spot back. You have to. You're one of the best players that coach has," Jess beamed.

"If I was the best, I would either be the quarterback or the captain. But I'm not any of those, thanks, to mister blonde Manning," Ryan huffed, anger hinting in his voice.

"You two need to chill. It's just a sport. And just because you aren't the captain or the quarterback doesn't mean you suck at football. You are one of the best players. Trust me," I stated, shoving food into my mouth.

Both Ryan and Jess sigh. They are taking this way too seriously. It's just a game and if Ryan wants to get scouted, he needs to worry about being the beast of the game than worrying about Josh being the captain. You don't need to be a captain to get scouted. You just have to be good. Also you have yo be able to play the game.

Speaking of Josh, he passes by as Jess and Ryan talk quietly. I watch him walk off, his back muscles moving smoothly against his shirt. Now would be a good time to get some answers. Of course, if he is a werewolf he wouldn't just share it right away. He would probably be a bit shady because that is a huge hint of hiding a secret that you want nobody to know. You act shady along with cutting people off.

"I'll be back in a bit," I spoke, standing up, grabbing my phone, "watch my stuff."

I walk off before Jess or Ryan can ask anything. They don't need to worry about what I'm doing. They don't even need to know that I am going to go have a little talk with Josh. Josh should be the least of their worries at the moment. But on my side of things, Josh is one of my worries. Because if he is a wolf, then he can either be a threat or he could be allied with me. Either one is a very scary thought. I can't even see myself ever working with him.

Josh sits at a table with a few other football boys. As I approach the table I can smell whatever they are eating. And whatever it is, it smells really bad. I cover my nose a bit, making a very vulgar face. One of the football boys snickers and points to me, causing Josh to turn around. His eyes widen in surprise. He then sits up a bit, clearing his throat.

"Kat? Never thought I would be seeing you here," Josh spoke, looking at me with his light brown eyes. His eyes remind me of hot chocolate on a cold winter day.

"It'll probably be the last time. As much as I don't want to do this, I need to have a little private chat with you," I remarked, rolling my eyes and crossing my arms.

"Uh, sure. Watch my stuff Jerard," Josh answered, getting up. I start walking towards the student parking lot, hoping that Josh is following me. I stop by a silver car and then turn to face where Josh is supposed to be. He was trailing behind a bit, jogging to keep up with me. Once he reaches me, he looks at me.

"What do you want to talk about?" he asked.

"You are going to think I sound insane, but I can feel it," I spoke, looking him in the eye. The feeling rises in my chest again, sending little shots of warmness all throughout my body.

"Feel what? That you think that I think you're crazy?" he questioned, confusion spreading across his face. He raises his eye brow a bit and leans against the car.

"No, like I feel it. And I know you can feel it too. No normal guy would ever come up to me trying to be nice," I sighed, running a hand through my thick brown hair.

"I felt nothing other than trying to be nice. So I have no clue what drugs you are on," He replied, turning around and starting to walk off. Great, now he thinks I'm insane and I can't even word this feeling. I can't just tell him straight up that I think he's a werewolf because then a lot of concern would be going to him. But I can't give up hope yet, I can still follow him after school. There isn't any football practice so it should work out fine. Plus my sister will be going to drama club as well this afternoon. The odds are actually on my side today, sort of.
