У ніч Вальпургієву небо потемніло, Здригнулося від грому і дощу. Немов злякалося диявольської сили, Що тішилась у горах досхочу. Чечітку лихо чортенята вибивали Аж сипалися іскри з-під копит. В гнилому озері русалки танцювали, Сяйнув очима чорний ворожбит. На мітлах пронеслися відьми, наче птиці, Оголюючи тіло на льоту. Ловили і жбурляли сині блискавиці, Що розрізали ночі чорноту. А стогони і крики, тупіт, свИсти Котилися луною між дерев. Настала північ. І прибув нечистий Під моторошний стоголосий рев. До третіх півнів десь у горах стугоніло. А потім регіт божевільний стих. Та знов у чорну ніч збереться дика сила За тінню гір та у лісах густих.
