Bastille
The poem is dedicated to July 14, 1789, on the day of the Bastille in the days of the French Revolution (1789-1799)
----------------------
Frenchman, a peasant,
He served the nobility
And greedy pastors in the churches
Robbed the laity.
It plowed the earth in the field,
The quitrent paid the poor man.
and he dreamed of living in the wild,
Where the willow tree grows so quietly.
But there were few villains of the quitrent,
They wanted war.
In Nantes at the time of the Meeting,
They made a contract.
They insulted the people, betrayed the king,
The native Motherland groans.
But why do they need land, fields, cities?
Let the peasants take it all!
delegates gathered
France has a duty, hired soldiers.
Banker Jacques Necker *,
Calm the rabble rabble!
But Marat ** and others,
Chevalier, lawyers,
People showed such passions
What the soldiers gathered on Mars ***.
The people rebelled, on their chests cockades
Blue, white and red glisten.
The battle began with Mont Mart,
troops pulled into the Bastille.
Mon Ami! What happened?
In France, the mob!
It just so happened
A terrible day has come!
The Bastille is a prison for peasants
Artisans, poor soldiers.
That fortress fell, the guard is crushed!
Delivered to the nobles now Shah and Mat!
Versailles captured a week later
defeated army of darkness
Killed the king, revolution, shock!
This is where we finish the story!
--------------------
Jacques Necker * - Minister of Finance before the revolution.
Jean-Paul Marat ** - a philosopher, one of the instigators of the revolution.
Mars *** - Field of Mars where military parades took place. Now there is the Eiffel Tower .
