WHO ARE YOU?

When someone asks you this question then its clear that the whole importance is given to you through this question. And we all know that we enjoy feeling special. Its everyones tendency to be happy and feel pleasurable or special when people ask about yourself. In other words, everything about us is special for us.

Religious people when ask this question, its a totally different aspect. They are not expecting your name, job, nationality, etc.
As when you answer I am Vitthal they will say its your name.
If I say I am a doctor- its your job.
Indian- it is the nationality.
After thinking a little you will say I am a human then they will say its your species.
After thinking more you will say pointing at your body, I am this-my body!
They will logically cross you that its your body its not you. Your body parts can be transplanted. (Actually everybody naturally changes cell by cell. We lose many cells daily and new cells form in our body-daily. And this process continues so after some period of time, say some years we have totally new cells in whole body) So then, who are you?

They are expecting the answer the soul
“Yes, the body changes but the soul remains the same just like you change your cloths”-they will say.

But this little word soul gives rise to many difficult questions-
From where the soul comes?
Where it is situated in our body?
Where does it go?
From what it is formed?
Whats the size and shape of it?
What is the proof of its existence?
And they have many different answers to each of this question. Answers are given in almost every holy book except giving any logical proof of its existence.

How they try to prove the existence of soul-
It’s given in Bhagwatgeeta or our holy book. (which is accepted as standard and God’s words)
Proving it by exclusion method-by asking the question who are you? And eliminating each of your answer; keeping the soul as the last and expected answer.
By giving examples of the individuals who have got rebirth as human and can recall their past life.
Examples of out of body experiences, near death experiences.

I will cross and give explanation of each of the above proof they give by serial number-
First of all, there is no such thing in science as believing or faith. It needs experiments and consistent results. So believing on any book cannot be considered as logical proof.
If we erase all the holy or religious books from history and minds of people; after hundreds of years we will not get the same stories/explanations as there were before. But even if you erase the science data from the world and history, after years also you will get the same results as there were before. Force (F) will always be equal to mass (m) times acceleration (a), etc.

Coming to the question who are you? Then my simplest answer will be my mind. I am not saying my brain as we know there are many people who have undergone hemi- lobectomy surgery(removing half of brain), who have shrinkage of their brain but still being absolutely normal.

We are the memory and the mind. In simple language we are the songs recorded on the tape recorder and not the tape recorder or the cassette. Every tape recorder looks alike but the songs it plays are different. Just like that we have our body as like others but we are different from others.

Talking about the evidences of rebirth, I have not seen any person who can recall their past life. But as like many of us heard a lot about that. There are many videos available on internet interviewing the person who knows his past life. But none of them are from our region so as to personally meet and investigate them.

But it should be taken into consideration that there are many psychological states and psychological disorders where we can see-
Dual personalities in the same individual (split personality disorder). Hallucinations where the patient can see, hear, smell and taste the sound, fragrance, food taste respectively which is not there in reality.
Patients of Savant syndrome have unimaginable abilities of strong memory, fast arithmetic calculations, etc.
Our subconscious mind when functions very differently/not in coordination with conscious mind can sometimes tell us new things which our conscious mind dont actually know. It can show the things which we didnt consciously noticed when sensed but stored in subconscious mind; and when this occurs its totally new information for the conscious mind and so to us, etc.

I have not seen any person who had near death experience or person having out of body experience. But I know and I have seen that some drugs like ketamine can give you the same feeling.


Like the question ‘who are you?’ one more question “what’s the meaning/purpose of your life? Why were you born?” is frequently asked. This question also gives us the special feeling and so is a fascinating question. We never think what is the purpose of a blade of grass in the ground? Why any mosquito is there? What is the purpose of its life? But we get mind blown by the same question when asked about us.
We are actually special than other animals in the case that we are much evolved and with intelligent brain rule the world. But for the Mother Nature we are nothing different than a living being, just like any animal on the planet. However they ask this question in another sense, expecting some philosophical answer.

But without going in philosophy my answer to the question will be-
I was born just like any other animal on the planet.
And life doesnt have any meaning/purpose as such but we have to create it.
