Bastet
⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙ •°Bastet is the Egyptian goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, cats, fertility, and childbirth. She protected the home from evil spirits and disease, especially diseases associated with women and children°• ⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙ 15 April I kneeled down in the immense temple of Bubastis, bowing my head. The black marble floor touched my skin and spread the cold through my body. My mouth felt dry. I feared the woman looking down to me whilst sitting on the enormous gold-plated throne. "Feline goddess Bastet, will you keep me secure?" I closed my eyes, my voice was trembling. "Will you guard me from the evil?", I asked. This time I sounded more self-determined. My voice echoed through the temple. "Will you please, Lady of the East, give me an opportunity to finally discover a blissful place I could call my own?" As I shouted those last words, I stood up. Without fear, I dared to look in the Goddess's golden eyes, and prayed: "Bastet, can you give my family a home?" The moment that followed felt like forever. Bastet didn't seem to be surprised by me standing up. She didn't get furious because I shouted. All she did was stare back with her emotionless face. That was when a pitch black cat appeared from behind her back. How could an animal even look so stately? So important? It started apporaching me. As it came closer, I bowed anew. It looked at me as it was waiting for something. Expecting something. "I offer myself." All I wanted was a home for my family. A home this goddess could give them. Maybe I could not be with my beloved ones, but that was a risk I was willing to take. A risk I already took when deciding to visit the temple. The last thing I saw that evening, was Bastet coming slowly towards me. After that, everything faded away and I knew my offer had been accepted.

Motherland
═════════.▪️. Oh how I miss the happy people how I miss the rainy streets Yes I miss being greeted like an old friend by random people at the railway station I miss the old lady outside the shop, opening her hands for some coins Everyone treated me equally It was like we were all one huge family. Rich French words swirling around carried by the wind The ladies in the bakeries smiling while baking warm, fresh bread The chocolateries gifting sweets to the children, making them even more joyous than before... Oh how I miss the long bike rides through the cobblestone alleys Going from shop to shop searching for that perfect gift for the people we love Running in the darkness, our steps echoing through the road Screaming from happines, laughing at everything we see I trip over my own feets, I scratch my knees But I stand up, I keep going I don't feel the pain I'm too happy, too free Say mom why do you think I cried myself to sleep all those times It's because I miss all the things we used to experience together Yes I miss my own country, my language I miss sparks of myself, I miss me Because every single time we leave this fascinating place, when we leave Belgium I see: This is my home, where I belong and need to be ═════════.▪️.
