Nine
Delilah.
The crowd was still the same as ever in the diner. I looked around as I was drinking my strawberry shake. Everyone was busy eating with their friends and families. There were a few couples there too. And we were one of them.
When I couldn't taste anymore liquid from my straw I put the glass on the table and picked up Flynn's shake as I took a sip from it. He narrowed his eyes on me.
"You are such a rude girl." He said and I shrugged.
"You were the one who wanted this rude girl. Now deal with it." I said and he gave me his charming smile.
"You're still the same Del I left behind." He said with a soft smile on his face as he observed me with his beautiful eyes.
I was a little taken aback from his statement. I looked at him in confusion.
"What do you mean you left behind? You're here with me." I said and he sighed.
"I wish that was true, Del." He said as the noise from the diner faded. I looked around and the crowd was gone. I looked at Flynn and he gave me a smile as he stood up. And I felt something, a pain, when I saw him walking away from me.
"Flynn! Where are you going?" I asked as I stood up and started to follow him. We walked out of the diner and he turned to me
"I don't belong here, Del. I have to go." He said as he took out his car keys and unlocked his car with the click of a button.
"What do you mean you don't belong here?" I stopped him by holding his hand. "You belong here." I interwined my fingers into his. "With me." I said and he smiled.
"I thought that too, Del. But I don't belong here not with you." He said as he looked far away to the beautiful arched shape gate decorated with vines and flowers. "I belong there." He pointed at the gate as he turned to me. "I need to go there, Del. Please let me go." He said as he looked at me with innocence in his eyes.
My eyes stung with tears as I looked at him. "But- I don't want to." My voice break a little as I wanted him to stay but he didn't want the same.
He smiled again. "Now you're just being selfish. Tell you what when I'm there you can come and visit me sometime. I would really love to see you once in a while."
I opened my eyes as I sat up on my bed my whole face was drenched with tears. My palms were sweaty and my body was shaking. I pulled my legs together and rested my head on my knees as I let all the tears out. I don't know why but I didn't want to stop crying.
My phone vibrated and I wiped my face as I picked it up. It was three in the morning. I checked the notification and there was a message from Troy. I opened it.
You up? The message said. Just then I received another message from him.
It's a stupid question because I know you must be sleeping right now. I read the message.
Another bubble popped in. Sorry to disturb you.
I wiped my tears as I touched the call button in the corner. It only took one beep for him to pick up the call.
"You're awake." He said and with the enthusiasm he said that almost made me laugh.
"Yeah." I answered.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah just a little tired." I smiled a little because I knew he had felt the cry in my voice.
"You sure?" He asked again.
This time I let out a small laugh. "I'm okay, Troy. Tell me why you're awake right now?" I asked.
"I just couldn't sleep." He replied.
"And you texted me?" I asked and he let out a little chuckle.
"I just didn't know who else to text." He gave a simple reply. I heard a car horn in the background.
"You're out at this hour?" I asked.
"Yeah." His voice was a little low. Sadness. I heard.
"Troy, is everything okay?" I asked.
He sighed. "No." He replied.
"What do you mean "no"? Are you alright? Did something bad happen?" I asked as I started to worry about him.
"That's a lot of questions all at once." He laughed a little then he paused for a moment.
"Troy. Please talk to me." I said and I heard him sigh again.
"Everything's a mess, Lilah." He said as his voice weakened a little. A little vulnerability was evident in his voice.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I got into a fight with my mom's boyfriend and my mom kicked me out of the house." He replied.
"Where are you right now?" I asked.
"Outside a bar." He let out a little laugh. "They kicked me out too when they realized I was underage but hey atleast I had a drink before they kicked me out so they couldn't call the police."
"You're drunk?" I asked.
"I need more than one glass to get drunk, Lilah." He laughed. "And anyways the alcohol is almost out of my system."
"Oh, Troy, I wish I was there with you." I said.
He didn't say anything at first. "Why were you crying?" He asked.
"Wha-"
"You were crying. Weren't you?"
"No, I-"
"Lilah, please don't lie to me. I just told you what was bothering me now it's your turn." He said and I sighed.
"I was just missing Flynn." I replied. "Troy, I think I'm holding him back."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I don't know. It might sound crazy but I think he's not at peace."
"Why do you think that?"
"I saw him in my dream and he told me that he wanted to leave but he can't unless I let go of him."
A tear got out of my eye and before I knew it a whole stream was flowing out. As I sobbed he just listened to me in silence.
"Do you wanna visit him?" He asked.
"I think I should." I replied. "But I don't think I can."
"I'll go with you." He said.
"You will?" I asked.
"Yes." He gave a short reply.
"Thank you." I said in a low voice.
Sometimes when I'm with him I feel selfish because everytime it's me taking from him and he's the one giving. He's always there when I need him. I just wish I was there for him too when he needed me.
