Twelve
Troy.
I woke up to the sound of my cell phone ringing. I rubbed my eyes and looked at the table where my phone was ringing but before I could pick it up the call ended. I didn't bother to check who was calling. I sat up as my eyes went to the clock on the wall. It was eleven in the morning.
"Lilah!" I called out as I remembered we both slept on the couch. And she wasn't there with me anymore.
And by slept I mean slept as in just fell asleep while watching Rick and Morty or should I say while talking. We spent most of the night talking while the noises from TV were just like background sounds that everyone ignores. It was nice having someone to talk about just life without talking about stupid problems.
I got up from the couch as I went into the kitchen. Nope. She wasn't there. I went upstairs but she wasn't there either. I came back downstairs.
She must've left early in the morning. But it's not like her to just leave without saying anything. I went to the table to pick up my phone. I saw a note under my phone. I picked up the folded piece of paper and unfolded it.
Hey.
So I had little plans this morning so I had to leave. Sorry I didn't want to wake you up.
PS. I did not ignore what you said last night. I just need some time to think about the whole thing before answering your feelings. I mean you have 99% chance of getting the girl but I need to think about that 1%.
Reading that note. I wonder if it was Lilah who wrote this or Jon.
I sat down on the couch as I turned on the TV. Just then the door knocked. I stood up and opened the door.
Dylan was standing there with a shocked look.
"Why aren't you ready?" He asked me and I looked back at him in confusion.
"You forgot?! Dude how could you forgot?!" He almost yelled.
"Wha-" Before I could talk he walked in and started pushing me.
"Go change now!" He ordered. "How can you forget?!" He said again.
"What did-"
"No time to talk. Go on and quickly change." He literally pushed me towards the staircase.
I rushed upstairs and simply washed my face and put on the first shirt that I got my hand on. I rushed back down and he stood there impatient.
"Come on let's go. Dude we're so late!" He pushed me out of the house.
"What the hell-"
"No time to talk!" He yelled. "First you forget and you have the audacity to ask what is it? Now shut up and just keep on walking." He dragged me to his car parked at the side of road.
I don't actually know what the hell did I forget about?!
I was about to open the door of his car.
"Wait!" He said cautiously.
"What now?!" I said in frustration.
"You're not riding in that." He said.
"Then?" I asked and he just hold up his hand towards me to not talk and just looked at the right side of the door.
Honestly, my friends especially Dylan can be so annoying at times that I want to just punch him in the face.
A party bus came into our sight and Dylan smiled.
"That's your ride." He said with a smirk.
"What the hell is going on?" I asked and before I knew it Justin and Duncan came out of the bus and put a blind fold on my eyes.
"What the-"
"You cry a lot, Maxwell. Just go with the flow." I heard Dylan's voice.
"But-" Before I could complete my sentence I was being dragged into the bus.
I don't know who was in the bus. But it was crowded and everyone cheered as I entered.
"Happy Birthday,Troy!" I heard Stacy Wilson's shout as the noise of the whole crowd died down.
"The hell, Stacy!" Justin growled as I took off the blind fold. "We were not supposed to say that until we reached the party!"
"It isn't the party?" Stacy asked and the whole crows simply gave her a disappointed look.
"Well, whatever." She shrugged as she walked towards me. "It's my Troy bae's b-day." She hooked her arm into mine and I unhooked itbas I moved away from her.
"I've told you so many times to not call me by that name." I said as I turned to the crowd. "And what's up with you people?" I asked as everyone's face fell. "It's Troy Maxwell's birthday! Why aren't we partying?!" I yelled and everyone cheered.
Well, that's one of the things I've learned from Flynn Jacobs. Never be the party pooper but be the life of party. The music blared once again in the bus as everyone started dancing. I danced along with everyone not to fit in but because I wanted to. I felt lighter and happier that day. But who knew that it was just an ignorant bliss of a moment.
We partied all the way to the actual party. The actual party was at Dylan's house. And honestly we already had partied enough in the bus that we barely had any energy to dance. But it was a party. After an hour or so everyone forgot it was my birthday and for them it was just a party. Like a normal. And I was happy with that. Because I've never been a fan of being the centre of attention especially when it's my birthday.
I've never liked birthdays. It's not like I hate that I was born. I'm pretty grateful for that. I just think birthday parties are stupid and full of awkwardness. It was always Dad throwing me birthday parties. It's my eighteenth birthday and he's not here with me. I sighed as I sat down on the couch.
"Hey,birthday boy. You okay?" Dylan asked as he sat down with me.
"Yeah, just tired." I said as leaned back in the couch.
He smirked at me. "Tired, huh? I wonder if it's because of the girl who spent the night at your place." He said musing.
"How do you know about that?" I asked.
"I just do." He shrugged as he took a sip from his red cup.
"No, seriously how do you know that?" I asked.
"I called you this morning. The plan was to fake murder Jess in my house to get you here and completely freak you out and then surprise you. But to my surprise I heard a girl. For a moment I thought I had dialed the wrong number. I mean a girl on your phone sounds pretty suspicious. It was that short haired blondie from Eastville wasn't it?" He asked.
I noded. "But it's not like how you're thinking." I said and he smiled.
"Yeah, I know that much about Troy the gentleman." He chuckled. "Well,I invited her to the party and she was pretty oblivious to the idea that it was your birthday."
"Yeah, I never told her it was my birthday. Hell, I didn't even remember it was my birthday."
"You're a doofus." He said as he checked out a girl who just passed by us. "We changed the plan a bit with her. She thought the whole murder thing was pretty cheesy and seemed pretty unoriginal. So we thought of kidnapping you in a party bus instead. She said she'll meet us at my house but she's nowhere to be seen." He said looking around the room.
"She said she'll be here?" I asked and he nodded.
So that's the plans she was talking about in the note. I searched my pockets for my phone but couldn't find it. Then I remembered I had left it back home and I don't even remember her number so I can't call her from anyone else's number.
"Troy bae!" Stacy yelled from the crowd. "Come on here dance with me." She said as she walked or should I say stumbled towards me. She held me by my hands and pulled me into the crowd. She put my hands on her waist. "You're such a cutie that I could just eat you up right away." She said and her breath told me, "She's drunk."
I somehow lost her into the crowd. I was about to walk out of the house when Dylan and Justin blocked my way.
"Nah, birthday boy, you're going back in." Justin said.
"Yeah, we haven't even cut the cake yet." Dylan complained.
"I really need to go it's urgent." I said.
"Boo-hoo. Nobody cares let's go inside." Justin said as he held me by my shoulders. "You need to loosen up my friend."
"But-"
"No buts." Justin said as he dragged me back into the house I had just ran from.
"Jus, I need to go right now. It's really urgent."
It is. I feel something is wrong. I really need to talk to Lilah right now. As soon as I cut the cake I sneaked out of the house. Since I didn't have my car so I took Dylan's car. I reached my place in about ten minutes. I parked the car outside and went in. The door was unlocked since they didn't give me much time to lock it. I walked in as I rushed towards the coffee table I picked up my phone.
Eighteen missed calls and twenty three messages from Jon. I didn't bother to check the messages and just dialed the number.
I don't know why but my hands are shaking and heart beat is going crazy.
She picked up the phone on the first bell.
"Where were you?" She sounded a little frustrated.
"I was kind-"
"Forget it. Just get to the Central Hospital of your town." I heard her voice shaking a little.
"What is it?" I asked.
She paused for a moment. "It's Del. She's been in an accident."
