The Soldiers Prayers
Amidst blood and fire he stands
With black eyed companions of war
Amidst slashed cheeks and broken bones
Lay the remains of victors and vanquished also
The flag of victory sails above
The trophy of their bloody war
But hidden scars he bears within
His albatross for fighting indeed
Scars of pain, scars of loss
Scars of war and many hurts,
Marks his heart so deeply cut
Bleeding till all hope is lost
Agonies of loosing a friend
Beyond the pains of sudden deaths
The aguish for a fallen friend
Making him think he's at his end
The sickening trauma of being a witness
To the carnage of his bosom friends
Fallen headlong in a shrilling cry
Pierced in the heart with arrows of guile
Dark clouds of doom crowds in the sky
Hovering upon the carcass of them
Right in their midst, he solemnly kneels
A trembling warrior of many hurts
With so much grief, and troubling thoughts
He bows his knee, to pray indeed
Oh that my Lord may uphold me
Seeing me through this gloomy phase
Help me be still from deep within
Delivered from the torments of ills
Cleanse me from every guilt of sin
That I may live totally free
A testament of their sacrifice
Harvest of glory for their seeded hope
Testimony of thy wondrous love
Which you showed to me through their devotion
That I may rise well justified
Worthy of such mighty sacrifice
For their lives they've given that I might live
In the light of life through Jesus Christ.
Delivered from the torments of gore
A worthy messenger of love
Rising up bold passing on the touch
A reflection of the love of God
