5 Years Later

I was upstairs reading over a school project that had to be completed in two weeks when the house phone rang. I tried starting it but I only managed to write two sentences before I got stuck. It’ll be completed for the deadline I was sure, well I hoped I could finish it on time.

"Hello," I heard my mum say after the ringing had stopped. She must have answered it. "Oh, hi Alex," she added. The mention of his name made me jump up from my seat. I was glad of when we got time to speak on the phone as we didn’t see each other often or even get time to talk. He was always too busy. About a two years ago I noticed him in a new movie I was watching with my best friend Abbey. It turned out that he had attended a drama school and luckily landed a part in a huge production and from then on he managed to get parts in a few other films as well. When I first saw him in that movie I had been jealous and hurt. It had been our dream. But after some time I realised I was being stupid. He deserved it. He was talented and there was still a chance I could make it as well.

"Yeah, she is. I’ll just shout her," she said but she didn’t need to, I was already running down the stairs.

Once down the stairs I took the phone from her and said, "Alex when are you free next? When are you coming to visit next?"

"What you don’t even ask me if I’m OK?" He asked me.

"Are you OK?" I tried knowing it was a little too late now.

"Yeah, you?" He replied anyway.

"Yes, so when are you coming?" I wondered.

"Tomorrow," he replied, but I thought I heard it wrong.

"Tomorrow? You never said," I wondered.

"I didn’t know until yesterday but my agent got me a part in a film and they said they needed to film some scenes in York," he explained.

"Oh, so how long are you in town for?" I asked him.

"For as long as it takes to film," he replied.

"Oh," I replied a little disheartened, then sighed. We never got time together. He would be working and I would be sat at home doing nothing.

"But I might stay a little longer if I can," he said. "So what been up to?"

"Nothing. Just the same stuff as always. Just going to school and all other boring stuff. It must be fun being famous," I said.

"Yeah, it is when I’m acting in a film, but not so much when you get crazy fans chasing you down the street screaming at you," he replied.

"True," I agreed. I guess no one’s lives were perfect or always fun.

"Anyway, I have to go now. I need to go back," he told me.

"OK, bye," I said.

"Bye," he said back.

"See you," I told him and hung up. I couldn’t wait for tomorrow. I had a feeling it was going to be amazing.

Once I put the phone back, I skipped into the living room, where my mum was now sat, imagining and thinking about the fun stuff we could do when he got here, when he had time obviously and hoping that I would get to see a movie set for the first time. A huge smile found it’s way onto my face as my body buzzed with excitement. I couldn’t wait for tomorrow to arrive.
