The day of the party...

The party was over earlier than everyone anticipated. Then again, how can the guests celebrate while the organizer and the sole purpose of the event in general just sat there, a blank and disinterred expression plastered on their face? Sarah, the center of attention for the day, sat in her king-sized bed, still wearing her dress. She had just tasted defeat after all. And when she thought back to all the events leading to what happened, she just wanted to crawl in a corner and wait out the last of her days. All the things she had said to Olivia, were now coming back to haunt her.

"Aaron Beckett..." She muttered lowly. Her first love. And, her first UNREQUITED love to boot. It was as clear as day he didn't really like her that way, when she thought back to all their interactions. Or at least, he didn't like her more than he liked Marshall. Olivia Marshall. Her rival in love. When did she ever find herself in such a situation? Liking a guy from her school? Having a rival in love? These things never occurred to her before. She grew up having everyone and everything at her feet. She could have anyone and anything she wanted. Her dad was rich, and she was drop-dead gorgeous to boot. Any boy, any man, was playing right at her palm every single time. Yet, she never thought highly of anyone. How could she? When she could get anyone she wanted, then the value of having someone by your side greatly decreased. But as we humans are, it was inevitable. She wanted the one thing she couldn't get. And that was him. That was the first thing she could never obtain. Was it really? She also yearned for something else, her entire life...

"Dad..." Her mind followed those exact thoughts, as she called for her only parent. Everything she did, it was never enough for him to notice her. Her dad was always busy, and almost never had time for her. Especially when she was younger. She still remembers the first time she brought home the best grade in class, smirking proudly. Her father congratulated her, patted her head, returned the smile, and then shifted back to his papers. It was a small thing, but it meant the world to her. And so, she kept studying hard and brought home an excellent grade every time she had an exam. And of course, the reaction was always the same. It never really differed. It was the same pat, the same smile. But it wasn't a genuine one. After seeing it so many times she could tell. Her dad wasn't surprised or happy, he just took it as fact. It was his daughter, so she was bound to be a good student. She realized she was being taken for granted.

Her mom on the other side, was an elegant woman. She wasn't as busy as her dad but she made a point to let the maids of the house take care of her daughter. She could tell that she was loved at some extent, after she was almost ran over by a car once, or that time she ate a food she was allergic to causing both of her parents to almost flip out of their minds in both occasions. But after a few days everything was back to normal. Maybe the reason was that her mom gave birth to her while she was still young, and all the loving mother acts would make her feel older than she really was. It might seem like a stretch, but not for Sarah's mom. She was after all, a really self-centered person. But when she learned that she was in a comatose state, she couldn't help but devastated. Even though they never had much mother-daughter moments, she was still her mother.

Growing up the way Sarah did, having everything she ever wanted, except her parent's attention, she grew up to be a really spoilt young lady. She always got what she wanted at the end, and in return she also wanted everything she felt she couldn't get.

She still remembers that day, not too long ago, as clear as day. The day she almost fell down the dull gray stairs. But it wasn't just the stairs. Her whole world was colorless and uninteresting. But when she opened her eyes, she met 2 emeralds beads staring back at her. She found a touch of color in her dull and uninteresting world. It wasn't just his eyes, but his whole being that emanated a magical glow. She tried to reach out, and the color escaped her grasp. For the first time in her life, she found something she could chase. The thrill of the hunt excited her to her core! She had to grab hold of that colorful hand and paint her world with it! Ah, how nice it feels to be alive in this world, she thought. Were those really her thoughts? she contemplated time and time again. Soon she realized, that this feeling was love. She had fallen in love for the first time. Why was he so colorful like that? She couldn't quite understand... That's why she tried to chase after it. She wanted it to be hers and hers only. But as she tried to get closer, she realized... The color wasn't looking at her. It was looking at something else. And that enraged her. How could he not look at her? There was a rival. A foreign object that could possibly damage the fairy tale she was constructing appeared. And so she deployed masterful techniques to seize the color away from the intruder's hands. Sarah tried to reason with the intruder. Then she tried to compete. And at last she tried to hurt the insolent person who stood between her and her goal. And as she did all that, she was sure she'd win at the end. And she managed to get her hands on the color. It was finally between touching distance! But alas, nothing ever goes as planned. The color slipped through the cracks of her embrace and fled further and further away than ever before. Soon, the world turned dull again. Everything was painted grey and she stared at herself. Then, it finally occurred to her. Only when she looked at herself did she realize... She was actually colorless. Like the world around her, she was dipped in gray. She laughed... Why would a bright element like him get affiliated with someone like her? He had something way better in front of him... She soon realized that the person she called an intruder, was actually a colorful spark just like him. She had never realized what he was looking at. The only thing she knew was that it wasn't her. And as all the pieces fell into place, she reached a conclusion. She was the intruder to another person's fairy tale all along.

Sarah was walking down the school hallway, her brown elegant shoes clapping about. She heard voices and felt the stares of her peers. She was actually used to it by now. Everyone would just marvel in her beauty, her authority and even her aura in general. But the stares and voices of that colorless bunch was of no concern to her. She just smiled blankly at them and continued down her path. She didn't really remember when the world started seem colorless to her. She just woke up one day and accepted it as fact. Only her father and mother were different than the rest, she thought. Until she met him... And then her.

Suddenly some voices made their way to her ears. She turned on her heel and followed the source. And there she was. The bright spark surrounded by a bunch of tasteless gray insects. It just so happened, that those insects belonged to her class.

"Watch where you're going next time!" One of the insects spat angrily as the colorful spark that went by the name of Olivia Marshall, flinched in response. She had just bumped into one of the grey individuals with her coffee in hand, causing a really cliché situation. Although she was sure the almighty bright color would rush in to save the day, today, Sarah wouldn't let that happen. She was really self-centered after all.

"Hey, you three!" Sarah addressed the uninteresting and dull schoolmates of hers with a fake smile.

"S-Sarah!" One of them exclaimed in a high pitched voice.

"Would you mind leaving my friend alone?" She continued with that same smile of hers.

"Oh no, we're so sorry! We didn't know she was your friend!" The girl that was acting all high and mighty before changed her tune real quick.

"It's okay, as long as it doesn't happen again." Sarah bowed softly as she addressed them, her expression never changing. The girls nodded to each other and after voicing a "sorry" they scattered away like the grey and dull insects they were.

"Thanks, but I don't remember us being friends..." Olivia said as she cocked her head to the said, as Sarah came up to her.

"We're not... But we could be, Marshall." She voiced with a proud "hmph!" at the end. "Anyway, I'll be taking my leave." The black haired girl said, as she turned to walk away.

"Sarah wait!" Olivia called out to her, and she in response stopped in her tracks. "Me and Aaron are dating now, just so you know." She informed her with a straight face, as the rich and proud girl smirked like one. She knew it was coming. Olivia was the kind of person that would declare her victory as soon as it was claimed, after all.

"I figured as much." Sarah responded with her never fading smile. "...You better take care of him, he really loves you." She added and made her way down the hallway once again, leaving a blushing and dumbfounded Olivia in her wake. To the naked eye it might have seemed like it, but this wasn't her way of giving up. It was the exact opposite. Her journey of filling her world with color had just began, and the first step to that would be to observe the colors living in her dull world, and try to get affiliated with them, and maybe one day, paint herself in the same beautiful aura herself.
