Prologue (Part 2)
I remember... Lights distorting my vision... I remember... faces hidden behind surgical masks... And then, I remember a voice... A distant one... One that posed a question... To me? "Do you want to live?" It said. With all the strength I could muster, I nodded faintly and fell out of consciousness soon after...
Aaron's eyes slowly started to flutter and gradually opened. "Ughh ... My head hurts..." He groaned, rubbing his temples. "So..." the teenager said as he tried to process and pinpoint his whereabouts. "Where am I?" he finally asked as he scanned every corner of the high-tech hospital room he was in. Just before he got up from the bed he was lying, the door of the room steadily opened, by a woman wearing white robes. "Mister Beckett," she said in a light and comforting tone "We're glad to see you're doing well. We here at B.L.U. have been providing you with the medical attention you needed. We've got all the answers you are currently struggling with, so if you'd follow me..." the nurse explained with a gentle grin, as she opened the door wider than before. "B.L.U.?" The young man inquired but followed the nurse, albeit somewhat reluctantly. As Aaron stood up and walked towards the edge of the room, the facilities of a hospital came into view, as well as a blue logo of a company that he recognizes: B.L.U. "It's time for you to meet Dr. Steinn now Mr. Beckett." The nurse noted while leading the young man away from the room and towards an elevator. "And who is Dr. Steinn, if you don't mind me asking?" Aaron asked trying to hide the suspicion in his voice, while following the woman into the large elevator as he glanced around the many hospital rooms that looked like his own and the many nurses and doctors lounging about. "Dr. Steinn is no other than the man you owe your life to Mr. Beckett" she stated while pressing the button with the number "100" on it. Skyscraper much?
"He is the man that performed that miracle surgery on your dying body after all." The woman continued with the same polite tone as before. "My ... dying body..?" The teenager repeated over her while his expression changed into one of perplexion. "We're here!" She announced with a smile as the elevator came to a stop and its doors swung open. The nurse took the lead once again as she starting walking down a large hallway with 3 doors on every side and one on the end. As they reached the end of the hallway, the woman knocked softly on the iron door separating them and presumably Dr. Steinn. "What is it?!" A hoarse bass voice echoed through the hallway. "I brought the young man, as soon as he woke up, exactly like you requested Dr. Steinn." The nurse swiftly explained, while her body language had transformed from firm and steady to stiff and nervous. "Ah yeah. Bring the kid inside Martha." The man on the other side of the door commanded. Martha? She softly opened the door and motioned for Aaron to step inside. The teenager did what he was told and entered the lab before him. As soon as he stepped inside, he started scanning the room with his eyes. A middle - aged man pressumably at his early 40s was sitting on a big office chair surrounded by test tubes, papers and tools that lied on top of his messy desk. Tons of machinery were scattered throughout the room and cables were hanging from the ceiling like wild vines. "Martha you're free to go. Sit down, kid." He motioned for him towards a chair with a big hand rest, as he got up and ran his fingers through his long brown and old hair pulling it backwards. The scientist wore his circular glasses and unbuttoned his white lab coat showing off the black T-Shirt he was wearing underneath along with his blue jeans and casual boots, an untidy outfit for a scientist some might say. Aaron sat down at the designated chair and while Martha had already excused herself he turned to look at the grown man. "So you... uhm... saved my life?" The teenager awkwardly asked while resting his arm on the armrest. "Saved? Yeah sure!" Steinn exclaimed holding back laughter. "Sorry, did I miss the funny part?" The young man asked while the scientist pulled out a syringe. "Can I see your arm young man?" He asked dodging the teenager's question, while holding out his free hand. "So you're gonna make me a lab rat or something?" The young man pressed on with the questioning without letting go of the armrest. "Look kid. I'll tell you all you need to know, so just start cooperating already." The grown man stated with a grin that didn't much his angry tone in the slightest. The teenager finally complied and held out his free arm with an exparated sigh. "Good boy!" The man said as he dipped the syringe in Aaron's vein. "Don't want a cookie..." He sarcastically replied, with the scientist completely ignoring his witty remark.
"So the thing is..." Dr. Steinn uttered "You were supposed to be dead. But you’re not. Thanks to science, and my brilliance." The scientist stated while slipping the sample of Aaron's blood into a test tube and onto a machine that looked like a big microwave. "BUT that doesn't mean that you are still just an ordinary teenager." He exclaimed. "YOU'RE GONNA TURN ME INTO A LAB RAT I KNEW IT!" Aaron shouted while quickly standing up. "NO CALM DOWN FOR FUCK'S SAKE!" Steinn quickly replied while throwing up his hands. "You're not gonna become a lab rat. You're just an experiment that hopefully was successful." he continued trying to sound reassuring. "Which means??" The young man pressed on. "You'll see you'll see!" The scientist shrugs him off as he lights a cigarette and opens the window. "Look here Mr. Mad scientist. I woke up in a hospital bed with no recollection of what happened. My head hurts like fucking hell and I could be a lab rat for all I know! Not to mention that the fact that everyone keeps acting like they're hiding something from me doesn't really help, so I'd appreciate it if you'd cut the shit and tell me what the fuck is going!" Aaron voiced as he finally decided to vent his frustration. The grown man opened his mouth in order to reply but before he could, a light on the microwave-like machine started blinking. The scientist swiftly ran over and opened it while grabbing the tube with the young man's blood in it, which for some reason had turned blue. "It's clear. You're clear!" Steinn exclaimed, excitment fiiling his heavy voice. "I'm clear? What does that even mean!?" Aaron shouted as he had already lost every bit of his patience. "It means that you're not human anymore!" The scientist exclaimed as silence filled the whole room.
"Not... human?"
