Chapter 8 - Sword and Shield
Red slowly woke up to the sound of a fire crackling. The pain in his stomach was no more and he felt alive and rested. Slightly opening his eyes, he was laying down on a white, simple but comfortable couch. Looking to his right there was a small fire place, constructed of beautiful red brick and the dark mahogany surrounding accompanied it well. Nearest to him was a small round table with a blue bottle and some bandages. He then looked straight up, the ceiling was made of dark wood and a metal chandelier with half burned candles hanged just above him. Lifting his left hand and resting it on his stomach, he felt his own skin, he was wearing no shirt, not even a bandage. Checking for the wound, he found no traces of it, as if never happened. He tried to sit up but got hit with a sudden headache and crashed back down into the couch,

"Take it easy, you've lost a lot of blood. Its amazing your still alive",

The voice came from Amelia, looking around, Red found her in a rocking chair sat by where his feet were laying. She was reading a book with a black cover, no writing on it what so ever. Red once again tried to sit up and succeeded. Planting his feet on the cold wooden floor and laying back on the couch, he closed his eyes,

"The help wasn't necessary, but thank you",

Amelia let out a small smile "Men, your all the same. So prideful",

Red looks at her but she kept her attention to the book,

"The pain, its gone. And the wound doesn't appear to be there anymore. What did you do?" He asked with surprise and confusion,

"Just a bit of magic, nothing special. A simple healing miracle. I'm surprised though. Your body seemed to want to resist it. Never encountered a being that resists healing miracles",

Amelia spoke with a gentle and sweet voice, its sound was soothing to Red's ears, like a mother singing a lullaby to her baby,

"You're a Cleric?" Red asked with curiosity,

"Sometimes" she quickly replied "Although I haven't practiced miracles in a while",

Red looked at her and then the book again,

"Is it interesting?",

"Curious?",

He looked at her and both their eyes met, it was quiet, nothing but the sound of the firewood being burned. She looked beautiful, the cabin setting, her simple yet elegant clothes, the book, the chair. It all went so well together, it was like being in a heavenly dream,

"The sword" Amelia said, catching Red off guard,

"What about it?",

"You whispered to it before you came in. Why?",

"Its a charm. It wont let anyone use its blade unless certain words are spoken by it intended user first" Red replied,

"What were to happen if I tried?" Amelia asked with a devious smile,

Red put on a smile of his own "The scabbard, even if it was half the world away, it would make its way to the blade to cover it",

"That's a powerful charm. Was it you that placed it?",

Red lost his smile and looked down to the floor "No, it was its creator",

Amelia also stopped smiling and looked at Red with worry, she then looked back at the sword, it was leaning against the wall by the front door, then looked back at Red. Amelia got up from her chair, closed her book and went to grab the sword. She came back to Red with sword in hand and sat next to him on the sofa. Red looked at her in confusion. She aimed the hilt at him while she held the scabbard with both hands,

"Draw it" she commanded,

Red looked at her then the sword. He slowly moved his right hand and gripped the hilt of the blade. He ever so gently pulled the sword from its sheath and an echo rang through the air around them. As the sword fully emerged from the scabbard, Amelia placed its sheath beside her on the couch and proceeded to examine the weapon. With her middle and ring finger from her right hand, she stroke the blade from its point, along the edge, all the way to its cross guard,

"A black blade, to cover the blood. A dark heart to cover the pain" she whispered to herself,

She then took a closer look at the sword and noticed writing on the hilt and fuller of the blade,

"Firluage?",

"You know it too?" Red asked in surprise,

"Its the language of the Ancients. Its believed to be the first language spoken on our world" she explained still looking at the weapon "Ante Dei Vultum Nihil Unquam Restat Inultum. Those are powerful words",

Amelia then ran her fingers across the cross guard and onto the grip and touched Red's hand. Red looked at her in a slight surprise expression. She took the sword of him and examined his hand. His bones were thick, his skin tattered and withered but still had beauty and youth it. Amelia then looked at his eyes and Red stared back at her. His red eyes sent shivers down her spine but in a way made her feel safe. She lifted both her hands and placed them over Red's cheeks, examining his face, her hands flowed gently and with care. Amelia's face got closer to Red's to the point their noses almost touched,

"A hand of a warrior but the face of an angel...", she whispered again but with lust in her voice,

Her right hand now moved to his golden hair while her left examined his chest, not a single moment passed where their eyes didn't meet. Red moved his hands slowly along her back and pulled her closely with gentle force. Their chests together, they could each feel each others heartbeat, every breath, every feeling. Amelia suddenly got even closer and their lips were mere moments from touching,

"A first kiss from lust, a last kiss for love...",
