Chapter 13 - What is the Element of the Gods?
As they travelled through the path, horses galloping along, grasslands covered their right while a slow running river followed them to the left. Red was ahead of the girls by a couple of meters, while the girls travelled behind him conversing with one another. Red could slightly make out what they were talking about, but didn’t show sign of it. Suddenly Amelia and Maria caught up with him and it looked like they wanted to ask a question but were to hesitant to do so,

“What?” He asked trying to get them to spill it out,

“Well me and Maria were talking and... we're wondering what Element you are?” Amelia said with a tinge of fear in her voice,

“Element?”,

“Yeah, every magic caster has been born with an Element, this is what allows them to use certain magic more efficiently than others",

Red was a bit confused “I’m sorry but I wouldn’t know, I’m not a magic caster. However can you explain these Elements to me",

Amelia stared at Red for a bit before answering his question,

“Elements are like souls. Ever since the first magic casters in the world learned that all magic can be traced back to a semblance of some kind within out bodies, they have studied to find out why we were born with them. While that question is still pretty unanswered, they discovered while that semblance is in almost everyone, specially magic casters, they were all resembling a sort of element used for casting, suggesting we once all had an affinity for magic so that’s where the name came from, Magic Element”,

“Right, but I’m not a magic caster",

“That’s not true!” Amelia informed him,

“Huh?”,

“I’ve studied most magic under the sun and I’ve never seen an Element as dark as yours”,

Red came over with shock, fear and anger in one go. He knew he was lying to Amelia about not being a magic caster but how did she find out. All possible scenarios started running through his head but before he could speak, Amelia asked,

“Why do you hide it?”,

“I still have no idea what you’re talking about" he replied turning away from her,

She let out a small sigh “When you were asleep, I came into the room to drop of the clothes you are now wearing. Now it’s common for magic casters to ooze out some magic while they sleep. It’s a sort of stress reliever...”,

Suddenly Red realized what happened,

“...but you, your magic was dark, darker than anything I’ve ever seen, but for some reason, it was beautiful. Like a dark divine Element",

Red said nothing and instead just kept riding along. The atmosphere between them was tense, she knew she was lying but he kept the lie up,

“Well I think that’s why the sword can cast magic and why it came flying from out of nowhere. Also I think the reason why the sword is enchanted with a lock spell is because she’s your catalyst",

Red once again said nothing,

“My Staff is my catalyst much like Maria’s Talisman his hers, but I’ve never heard of a sword being used as a catalyst, or even being able to be used to cast or hold magic",

A large sigh came out of Red’s mouth, like a sigh of submission. He had been found out and knew he wasn’t going to hear the end of it until he explained, but for some reason he didn’t feel regret for being found out, anger for sure, but not regret. He then turned to Amelia, let out a huge sigh and started explaining everything.

Moments passed with Amelia just staring into his eyes, unable to believe what she was hearing. Maria was the same, but you could see fear in her little heart. After a while of Red explaining, Amelia finally spoke, her voice trembled and her mind was a mess,

“You’re... a God?”,

“Well my parents are Gods, so I’m whatever you wanna call me”,

“An you fought the Dragon Father single handed?”,

“Well Oblivion isn’t technically the Father of Dragons considering who his creator is” Red replied with a smile,

Amelia just stared in shock and fear. Maria just behind her, trembled a bit and Amelia tried calming her down. Red just looked down in sadness. Suddenly his horse stopped and so did the other two. Red simply muttered out,

“If you wish to leave, you may. Use those horses to return home and live your lives. Being with me is harder than any fight, any complex magic spell, any loss you may experience",

For a second Amelia considered what he suggested but then realized, she was an Exile. A race of magic caster and user basically hunted throughout the world. It would only be so long since someone with bad intention would find out and hunt her down. She also thought of Maria, a little girl who still has so many adventures and lessons head of her, but she knew if she stayed with her at that small wooden cabin, she'd never reach her true potential, and if Amelia was ever to be taken away or killed, she'd be left alone in this cruel world. Amelia grabbed Maria’s right hand with her left and with her own right hand she clutched it into a fist. With a burst of energy and confidence she shouted,

“We're going to Savanna with you right? Well standing here doing nothing isn’t gonna help us get there. Besides I want to meet more Exiles and Maria has to go to a good school...”,

Amelia kept rambling on and on, and Red realized why. She didn’t care, she didn’t care about him being a different race. She herself was part of a race that nearly went extinct, she didn’t care whether he was a magic caster or not. She cared that he was helping them instead of shunning her and pushing her away from the civilized world. He suddenly burst into laughter, interrupting her constant speech. This caught her and Maria off guard but suddenly Amelia asked catching him off guard,

“So your parents, where are they?”,

Red out of nowhere lost his smile. He took the question incredibly hard, as if someone said to him he was about to die. Red kept stuttering, shivering with fear or maybe anger, maybe even anguish. Amelia kept looking at him in shock as Red’s mind suddenly entered an old memory.

In his memory he looked small, like an infant. He had golden clothing on and a tall woman was kneeling in front of him, holding him in her arms, crying. Red looked asleep, not making a single noise. The woman wept in pain and misery, letting out cries of true hardship, able to move the hearts and minds of any man or beast to feel her sorrow. Suddenly Red’s eyes opened and the woman still crying, muttered to him with a caring voice,

“My dear, My son, My Red. I know you’re still to young to understand...” The woman spoke, she moved her hands through his hair and cheeks “...but whatever happens in the future, listen to the words I tell you. Run! Run away and never come back to this place",

Suddenly a heavenly light blinded his memory and a single word was said before he came back to reality,

“Run",

As Red came back to the world, he noticed he was on the ground with Amelia on top of him holding him tight while Maria stood behind her shaking with nerves. The horses were surrounding him, laying on the floor with fear, whimpering. Suddenly Red noticed a small black cloud of smoke emerge from his hands before finally disappearing. Amelia , who had been pinning him hard to the ground , looked up to his eyes and let out a great smile of relief. He noticed her face, she was crying, but not tears of joy, more like tears of terror. As she noticed Red was in a calm state, she got up quickly and hid Maria behind her, shielding her with her body. Her staff was in hand aiming at Red’s direction. Red felt dizzy and nauseous, his bones felt weak and he was unable to stand no matter how much he tried. Suddenly he got hit with a question he never expected to hear from anybody, much less Amelia,

“WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU?”,
