Chapter 12
Maximillian and Arthur walked side by side across the hall towards the throne room where their father was. The trip to the throne room was silent, both of them were nervous. And both of them felt sentimental while looking around the grand palace.
Once they reached, they saw two guards guarding the door that lead to the throne room. Maximillian nodded at one of them and they responded back with the same gesture. The soldier opened the door and there, both of them were frozen in their places. None of them dared to move.
Both gulped at the same time and glanced at eachother with a confused look. Arthur mustered up enough courage to step first in the grand room with Maximillian following.
There they saw their father, King Oberon. Arthur felt anger flourishing within him. He narrowed his eyes and focused on his father who sat before him. Oberon reflected Arthur’s expression.
“Well! If it isn’t my two Princes! Since you both came here after ages, I assume that you need help with something. What can I do for you both?” Oberon said with a wide smile.
“Trust me. The last person we would come for help would be you. But this is something only you know.” Arthur said bluntly without making eye contact with the old king. Maximillian nudged Arthur’s arm gently, telling him that he was coming off very impertinent.
“Well, Arthur, still as reckless and impertinent as ever I see. But at least you’re a bit straight forward now.” Oberon said with a slight chuckle at the end.
“Can I get something for you both to eat? You have come a long way and unnanounced as well. I should have prepared something!” Oberon tried to lighten up the mood.
“That wont be necessary father. We came here for-” Maximillian was cut off by a laugh from his father.
“Nonsense!” Oberon said as he stood up abruptly.
At once, the table was set within a few minutes, full of delicious food and everything.
Oberon sprinted to the table and sat down, gesturing the two confused Princes to sit with him.
The table was huge and long. It became awkward as nobody spoke. Oberon ate from his plate but Maximillian and Arthur just stared blankly at him.
“What? Have you both lost your appetite while staring at this feast? Don’t worry, I felt the same way!” Oberon laughed.
Soon enough, Arthur held up something that grabbed the king’s attention. Oberon dropped his utensils as he was shocked and speechless. A single word was not uttered after that.
