She Forgives Me
I drop my backpack onto the floor, sitting myself down.
Tessa says, "Okay, so get out your math.".
I refrain from asking her how she knew it was math I had trouble with. I had totally forgotten she had to tutor me.
It was because of her eyes... The sadness that hangs around her like a cloak...
I open my backpack up, pulling out the homework I had yet to turn in. Whoever invented math didn't think about the after effects.
I put it on the table, reaching for a pencil from my bag. Tessa pushes some of her hair behind her ear, biting her lip in thought.
I wanted to kiss those lips. I wanted to touch those Hollywood curls. I wanted her to forgive me.
I take a deep breath in, think about what I was going to say. I had to take this slowly. I do one wrong thing and she'll run.
I huff, "Number three is giving me trouble, linear equations are just too confusing.".
She smiles, "It's quite easy, see...".
She shows me step-by-step how to solve number three. The whole time I listening, just listening.
I hear her voice, her words wrapping themselves around me like a warm blanket. I nod, hearing her intellect through the warmth of her words.
I nod, "Thank you for explaining it to me, I understand it better now.".
She nods, a smile, a real one, graced her face, "You're welcome, Thomas.".
The silence between us was comfortable, as if we could be like before.
This is the time, go for it!
I say, "Tessa...".
She looks up from her hands, "Yes.".
I smile, "I know things can't be like before. I want to apologize, really apologize. I am so sorry that you had to hear those things from me. I was trying to be cool and thought if my friends did it, it was okay. I hope you can forgive me and maybe we could hang out sometime.".
Tessa nods, "Okay.".
I ask, "Okay?".
Tessa says, "I forgive you, Thomas. But don't take it too lightly, I'll send the twins after you!".
I nod, smiling like a goof.
A little voice in my head whispered one word, over and over. Tessa, Tessa, Tessa, Tessa.
