Where Is She
I went to school, the watch gleaming against my wrist. I didn't know why I was wearing it, but the watch felt like something important.

I looked for her. Stretched my neck, easily seeing over the crowd. I searched over and over, but couldn't see a girl with Hollywood hair.

I told myself I didn't care. I didn't. Right? I didn't care for Tessa Weaver.

I went to class, trying to keep from scouring the room.

When class was over I allowed myself to look. No Tessa.

I didn't care! I didn't!

It was the same in the next class, and the next one, and the next one. When lunch crawled by I wanted to bite my nails. Dad would yell at me again if I did, so I didn't.

Tyler asked, "So how did it go with Weaver, she as mean as an ally cat?"

I shrugged, "Can't tell."

Matt whistled, "Man, that's cold."

I smiled and sat for the rest of lunch as quiet as a mouse.

I walked to her house after school. Her mother answered the door, an exact copy of her daughter. Turns out Tessa was sick.

I couldn't come in. I didn't want to. I wanted to.

I left, shuffling my feet as I went.
