Chapter 13
We had finished talking about the vampire and we let our parents talk. Bella was up stairs and Nick, and I were sat in the kitchen.
"So do vampires actually drink blood?" I asked, with many questions buzzing through my head. That's all my mind seemed to be filled with, those days. Just endless questions.
"Yes, we do. We need it to keep our self-strong and alive, but we don't just live off of blood. We need food and water also because we aren't dead we are just a different species of human. We don't ever have to take that much blood from people so that it can harm or kill them, and most of us never take blood by force only evil vampires do that, but I don't see why any vampire would need to take blood by force from people when there are other ways to get it," he explained to me.
"Other ways?"
"Yes, there's blood banks. As you know people donate blood for medical purposes, but they can also donate for vampires. Or sometimes but not very often, if a person is willing to give blood to vampires then they give it to them directly, without the vampire ever having to attack them for it," he said.
"So you don't need to bite anyone for blood? "
"No, only evil vampires choose to do that. The ones who think that we are some sort of superior race of human or the ones who enjoy killing. " I nodded and asked another question.
"I know I've seen you go out in the sunlight, but does it affect you in any way?" I asked.
"We can walk around in it, but because we have really pale skin we burn more than other people, and it can hurt our eyes a lot. That's why when it's really hot we stay inside but it can't kill us. Although, it doesn't really affect us much until we are adults," he replied.
"Okay, so do you have fangs because if vampires can drink directly from humans that means that they have them, right? I saw that the vampire had fangs or do only evil vampires have them?" I was aware I was asking loads of questions, but I wanted to learn more about the supernatural side of the world. The only things I knew were from books and films, and none of it turned out to be right so far.
"We all get fangs when we come of age. Every vampire becomes an adult at different rates but it is often after when they reach 21 since vampires tend to live longer than other humans," he explained.
"It's also interesting and cool. I never thought I would become friends with a vampire. Six days ago I didn't even think they existed," I said trying to take it all in. "If people donate blood to vampires does that mean people know that there are supernatural beings in the world?" I asked him.
"Yes, a lot of people do who aren't supernatural, but some refuse to accept it, so they just pretend that they don't know that there are things like vampires and witches or some simply just don't know. There are people who are aware but vampires, werewolves and witches don't normally tell any one what we are because although there are people who are excepting, there are some people who think that we are monsters, damned or in the case of witches devil worshippers, but what they think isn't exactly true. Some of us are good and some are evil," he clarified.
"Just like every where it is always good and bad, " I agreed.
"Maybe we should try and write some of the lyrics now before I have to go home," I added.
"Good idea," he agreed with me. "I will just go get some pens." He left the kitchen and I got the paper out of my bag. I placed it on the table.
He returned a while later and handed me a pen as he sat back down. We made a start on finishing the lyrics. They were halfway finished when, Jane came into the kitchen to tell us that we were we wanted, so we followed her back into the living room.
On the table, there were all sorts of weapons: knives, stakes, daggers, etc. "I want us all to have protection encase we need them. If you're in danger," Emma said.
"Do you have a licence for all these weapons?" I asked.
"Yes I do," she replied as my mum walked over to me.
"I want you to have this," she said as she held her hands out to me, and in them was a glowing, bright blue jewel. It was extremely beautiful. I reached out and took it from her.
"What is it for?" I asked, looking at it more closely, and noticed it changed colour ever so slightly in the light.
"It's tanzanite that has been charmed to make people forget something. It might help to protect people. It may be helpful until you learn how to focus your magic and cast spells," she responded.
"Thank you. It's very beautiful."
"Be careful with it though."
"I will," I agreed.
I put it down on the table and picked up a stake. Ouch! Some how I managed to cut my self on it. There wasn't a lot of blood but I realised there were vampires in the room, and I didn't know if they could smell it so I found my self-saying sorry.
"I'm sorry."
"What are you sorry for? Everyone has accidents and cut their self There are plasters in the top cupboard next to the sink," Jane said.
"You really need to try and be more careful," Nick told me.
"I know." I walked to the kitchen and realised Bella followed me.
"You really need to try and be more careful," she mocked. I turned around to face her.
"Have you got a problem with me? What have ever done to you?" I demanded, in a strange new found confidence. I really had no idea where it came from. Maybe it came from the fact that I finally knew who I was or maybe it was because I finally had enough of everyone being mean.
"I don't have a problem with you. It's just me. I can be horrible sometimes. I guess I'm still trying to figure you out since not everyone likes my brother but you do," she responded.
"So you hate me because I am friends with your brother?" It didn't make any sense. Her brother didn't have many friends so shouldn't she be happy that he had made a friendship with me?
"I don't hate you, I like you. You're a great friend for my brother. It's just that people are never really nice to him like you have been. They are only ever nice to him when they want something from him," she said.
"Diego is nice to him isn't he?"
"Yeah but that's just one person."
"Well, not just one person anymore. I'm nice to him because I like him. You don't need to worry about me having any hidden motives because I am not like that," I explained to her.
"I know and I've never had a friend like you," she said.
"Well if you are trying to make friends with me, you're not very good at it."
"I just don't know how to make friends so please if I say anything that upsets you tell me," she said.
"Okay," I said and walk to the sink to wash the cut. Then I get a plaster out of the cupboard and went back into the living room.
"We're going now, Vicky," my mum said.
"Alright," I said. I put on my coat and picked the jewel and a stake.
"See you tomorrow," Nick said.
"Bye, Nick," I replied.
"Au revoir, Vicky."
"I should be going too," Emma said. Then we left. We walked Emma to her large house in the woods. It still seemed to amaze me. I don't think I would ever get used to seeing its beauty.
We said goodbye and walked home to our little, cute cottage.
When we got home I went straight to bed, the day had tired me out completely. I laid down on my bed and dropped off to sleep right away.
"So do vampires actually drink blood?" I asked, with many questions buzzing through my head. That's all my mind seemed to be filled with, those days. Just endless questions.
