Chapter 23
I woke up next morning to the sounds of Emilee snoring. It wasn't a loud snore but was very quiet and delicate sounding. I got up from the mattress and left the room quietly so I didn't wake her up. The toilet was empty so I went in and looked in the mirror. Every time that I did that now, I did it with caution because I knew how terrifying it was to see someone strange behind you, ever since the first time I saw Emma. I turned on the hot and cold tap. Then I put the plug in and let the sink fill up a little bit before using the water to wash my face. Once I was finished I removed the plug and returned to my bedroom still moving quietly "Good morning," Emilee said as I entered the room

"Good morning. I didn't wake you up did I?" I asked her.

"No," she replied stretching and then she yawned

"I will let you get ready. See you down stairs," I said and left my bedroom once more. My mum was getting ready for work when I got down. She was putting on her coat and shoes. I didn't know that she worked at weekends.

"How come you are getting ready to go out? Are you going to work because I thought that you didn't work at the weekend?" I wondered.

"Just today. There is food in the fridge so you should be alright for lunch," she answered.

"Alright. What time will you be home?" I asked.

"About six O'clock."

"Okay, " I said.

"Bye," mum said. I said it back and then she left locking the door behind her. Emilee came downstairs. She was wearing jeans and a cute cream coloured jumper.

"Did your mum just leave?" She asked.

"Yeah she has gone to work," I replied. We went to the kitchen to get breakfast. Once we had finished eating we played 'Just Dance' on the Wii. I picked a song'. I wasn't very good at dancing so I could never quite reach five stars. The highest I had ever gotten was four. I hadn't done too bad with this song I had beaten Emilee. I had three stars and she had two. We were about to select another song when there came a knock at the door. I put the controller down on the table.

"I'll get it," I said and made my way to the door but I didn't open it. Emma had always told me to be careful who I opened the door to so instead I shouted "Hello."

"Hello, Vicktoria. Can you please open the door? I want to speak with you," the person said. It was a voice I recognised it was the head vampire that had kidnapped Emma and the one who attacked me. Fear ran through my body. I could feel my self-shaking. No way was I going to open the door to him. I didn't even know how he found my address.

"No, go away," I said.

"That isn't very polite. Either you answer the door so we can settle this argument that we have by talking or I will not let you and your friends go," he said. I wanted it to be over so we didn't have to fight and for my friends to be safe but I didn't trust him. How could I after what he had done? He was evil and I knew he wasn't just here to talk.

"Who is it?" Emilee asked and stood beside me.

"Just some strange guy," I said quietly so he didn't hear me.

"Open the door," he almost screamed. I could tell he was growing impatient. He then banged his fist hard against the door which made me and Emilee jump in surprise.

"Maybe we should call the police," She said.

"Let's just wait maybe he will go away,"I told her and she looked at me to debate against my idea but she didn't say anything. Instead, she turned back to the door. Even if the police did catching him, there were the rest of his friends and they would come after us. If we were going to stop them we would have to get them all together for the police to arrest them.

It was silent for too long. It felt very unnerving. We still stood in place near the door in case he hadn't gone. My mobile phone started to ring. It was just like it was in horror movies when the killer called you up to distract you so they could get into your house. I hesitated to answer but it kept ring so I took it out of my jeans pocket and said,  "hello."

"Hi, Vicky are you okay? I had a vision and saw him at your house," he said. His voice seemed to calm me down. I hadn't noticed the name on the caller ID, maybe it was because I was still a little scared.

"I'm okay." I think he has gone now anyway," I said.

"Alright, I'm coming around. Don't open the door till you know it's me okay," Nick said.

"Okay," I replied and he ended the call. I put the phone back in my pocket.

"Who was it?" Emilee wondered.

"Nick. He will be here soon," I answered.

"So I finally get to meet your boyfriend."

"He isn't my boyfriend," I said.

"Yeah sure. I know how you feel about him. You didn't stop smiling when you were on the phone to him and when you talk about him you start talking quietly and your face gets all red," she said. She was right I did like him but he wasn't my boyfriend and I doubted that he liked me.

"See like now," she added. I could never hide anything from her.

"Okay, yes I like him but he isn't my boyfriend," I said.

"Anyway, how did he know that the guy was here?" She asked. Oh, crap. I had to make something up now because she didn't know about supernatural things and I hated lying.

"He was close by and saw the man coming towards the house," I managed to say. I wished I didn't have to lie. I wanted to tell her about me being a witch but not today. It didn't feel like the right time.

"Okay," she said believing me.

There came a knock at the door but this time Emilee shouted "hello."

"Vick It's me, Nick. Open the door please," I heard Nick's voice say.

I was about to open the door when Emilee stopped me. "How do we know it's him? It could be the man impersonating him," she said. It wasn't the man because I could sense that it was Nick. I could hear the worry in his voice but I let her look through the spy hole anyway.

She moved away from the door to look at me.

"Does Nick have black hair and bright green eyes?" She asked.

"Yes," I answered.

"Then I think it is him," she said. I opened the door and there he was dressed in a red hoody and jeans. He looked concerned and good looking. I couldn't help but feel as if I was getting hypnotised by his eyes when he looked at me.

"Can I come in?" He asked.

"Of course you can," I replied.

"Thank you," he said and walked in. I turned away from him and locked the door. Then back into the living room and they followed.

"Hi, you must be Nick. I am Emilee, Vicky's best friend," she said politely

"Hi Em' it's nice to meet you," Nick said.

"It's nice to meet you too but please don't call me Em."

"Yeah, only I can call her that. She gets mad if anyone else calls her it," I said.

"You can call me Lee or just Emilee," she pointed out.

"Okay."

"Do you want to play Just Dance?" I asked him.

"Yeah," he said.

"I'm going to the toilet so you two can just do this dance," Emilee said and went upstairs. I picked up the controllers and handed one to Nick. He had to adjust the strap to fit his wrist because they were a lot bigger than Emillee's.

"Can I pick a song?" He asked.

"Sure," I answered and handed him, my controller, also. He clicked through the songs till he decided on one. We clicked on the avatars and started the dance just as Emilee came back down. She sat down on the sofa to watch us.

When we danced I couldn't help but quickly glance over at him, he was such a great dancer. He was matching the vampire on screen perfectly so he was in the lead. He smiled at me when I looked at him so I smiled back and then looked back to the TV. I breathed in and out slowly to catch my breath because I was exhausted He had one. He had five stars and I still only managed to get three.

"Loser," he joked while making an L shape with his hand.

"How did you get five stars? I was trying so hard and I got a lot of perfects. You're very good at dancing," I said.

"I am just amazing at this dance and I took dance lessons. You're a good dancer yourself," he said.

"Not really. I can't seem to get any higher than three."

"It's just because you don't know the whole dance. Once you learn it you will be able to keep in time more and get more stars," he said.

"Let me dance now and I will beat him. I will choose a hard dance," Emilee said standing up. I handed her the controller.

It was such a close dance. For a lot of the time they were both at three stars but right at the end, Nick received another. "I will beat you," she said. Emilee was very competitive and never liked me beating her at things.

"We'll see," Nick said.

"Not right now though. I am tired but next time I will beat your arse," she said.

I turned off the Wii and we sat down to watch TV. I was sat in between them both. Soon after mum came home. She entered the living room with pizza and chips.

"Oh, hi. I didn't think you were coming Nick but I'm sure there will be some pizza for you," she said.

"I will go and get some plates," I said and stood up. "Emilee, will you come help me?"

"Yeah sure," she said and we went to the kitchen.

I opened the cupboard and we took at four plates. We had one each. "You know when you said that Nick was my boyfriend? Well, I want him to be. I really like him," I said.

"Then what's stopping you? Ask him out," she told me.

"He might not like me back and I haven't had a boyfriend before so I have never asked a boy out before."

"You don't know if you don't try. What's the worst that could happen?" She asked.

"He could laugh at me." He didn't really seem like the person to laugh when some said they liked him but what did I know he could be that type of person. I didn't know everything about him. The real reason though was because I was scared, to be honest.

"I don't think that will happen. Even if it does at least you know what he really thinks about you but why should he laugh. You are a pretty and awesome girl," she said. She was right I couldn't hide my feelings from him for ever. I would tell him but I need to build up my courage first. I would tell him when we had stopped that evil vampire and his school. Yes, that seemed like the best time.

"Okay, I will tell him. Not right now though," I said. She smiled at me and walked out of the kitchen. I followed. I handed a plate to mum, and Emilee handed one to Nick. Then we sat down to eat.

Once we had finished eating someone knocked on the door. Mum looked at her watch. "That must be your mum Emilee. Go get your coat on," she said. Emilee got up and put on her coat. I got up and hugged her goodbye.

"Bye, Vicky," she said.

"Bye," I added.

"Bye, Nick it was very nice meeting you. Remember next time I come I am going to win," she said.

"Bye Em. Erm. I mean Emilee," Nick said correcting himself very quickly.

"Don't call me Em because I won't be just be beating your arse at a game."

"Are you threatening me?" He said and then laughed.

"Yes, I will knock you out if you ever call me it," Emilee answered.

"Got you," he said. She then left and I could hear her mum's car drive away a few minutes after.

"Mum that vampire from that school was here today. The one who kidnapped the Queen he was banging on the door," I told mum.

"Good you didn't let him in and I'm happy that you are safe. I wished that I didn't go to work now but we need to stop him before it gets worse," she said.

"We could meet up with them but have the police standing close by so they can arrest them," Nick suggested.

"Good idea but I don't think that we all should go they might sense that we are up to something. Maybe, if I say I want to talk about what happened at the old School building like he asked me to do but really it will just be a trick," I said but I wished I didn't. He scared me, there was no denying it.

"Yeah, that could work but you will need someone to go with you. Who do you want to go with?" Nick asked. I was so glad he thought that because I didn't want to go alone. If he came with me I wouldn't be as scared because I felt a little safer when I was with him.

"You. I want you to come with me because you have powers although you don't know what they are, I think someone with magic might come in handy and you are the other chosen one," I said but the other reason was so that we could spend time together.

"Okay, we will have to find the number," he said.

" What number? His?"

"No, I believe that the school is still in use but for something else. I think they use a part of it as a training place. The small building around the back that has been renovated. We could ask for him, maybe he goes there often," Nick replied.

"Where will we find it?" I wondered.

"It should be in the red pages but if not we will look there," he said.

"Red pages is that like the yellow pages?"

"Yes but instead it has numbers for supernatural businesses," mum explained and got went to go get the book. She returned and put it down on the table. Nick skimmed through the pages while I turned the caller ID on my phone private. I didn't want him to be calling me whenever he wanted.

"Found it," Nick said pointing to the number. I typed it into my phone.

"Alright everyone be quiet," I said and pressed call. It rang for quite a while until someone answered.

"Hello. How may I help you?" He answered. The guy that we were planning on meeting. I could recognise his voice easily. He spoke in a very nice and polite tone but I knew that was far from true.

"Hi, It's Vicky," I said, nervously.

"Vicktoria? You know it was rude not to open the door today. I hope you're happy now because I will kill you and your perfection friends."

"I'm sorry but I erm... have changed my mind. I want to- work all this out. Come to some sort of erm...arrangement. Just don't hurt my family and friends, they don't need to be a part of any of this. " I was so terrible at lying. I just hoped he believed me.

"Are you telling the truth?" He asked.

"Yes, I would like to meet tomorrow at one by the lake to discuss it," I said.

"Alright, but don't bring anyone just you or no deal. Do I make myself one hundred percent clear?"

"As long as you don't bring anyone either?"

"Of course not. I promise," he replied.

"Bye," I said not wanting to be on the phone any longer with him.

"Bye," he said and the call ended.

"Thank goodness that's over," I sighed with relief. The hardest part was over. Now all was left was to call the police and wait for tomorrow to meet him. And the police would arrest the people at the school and then it was finally over.

Nick went home not long after and we went to bed. I was laid in my bed and I was worried about tomorrow. I hoped our plan would work. Only time would tell so I closed my eyes and I tried not to think about it too much.
