Chapter 2
The next morning the sun seemed to take hours to rise. The reason being, that I hadn’t been able to fall back to sleep because I was too scared. Even though I was tired from the lack of sleep I forced myself out of bed, knowing my mum would be making breakfast. My slippers were still packed so I made my way downstairs with just my socks on, to see my mum had already made breakfast.
The smell of bacon and bread hit me even before I reached the bottom of the stairs. It made my belly rumble. I saw that my mum was setting the table and bringing out the sandwiches. She smiled as I sat down at the table. Then she handed me my sandwich, before sitting down with her own.
"Good morning, did you sleep well?" She asked me.
I wanted to tell her about the strange noises I heard last night. Maybe, she wouldn’t have believed me if I told her. Why would she? There was nothing there, but I know I wasn’t imagining it.
She could have said, that I just thought I heard it because I was homesick and nervous about moving to a brand new place, but I knew that wasn’t the reason.
"I slept okay. I’m still a bit tired though," I answered.
"I didn’t sleep that well either but you’ll sleep better once you get settled."
"Yeah," I said. "Do you know when Emilee is getting here?"
"I’m not sure. Her mum said she is setting off at eight. I’m sure they will call us when they are near," she said.
After breakfast, we made a start on unpacking. Somehow I managed to get myself stuck in the middle of my bedroom floor, surrounded by boxes. I didn’t even realise I had that many possessions. Most of the things that I owned seemed to be films, books, CDs and pens. Only some of which were my favourite possessions, but I think my most favourite was my guitar, my favourite book series, and my music CDs of various artists and bands.
I was taking my clothes out of the bags and I nervously took a T-shirt to the wardrobe. I kept thinking that someone was inside because of last night, so I slowly reached my hand out to grab the handle. Once I had hold of the handle I breathed in deeply and quickly opened the door.
When I realised it was empty I let out a sigh of relieving and hung up the T-shirt.
"Vicky, Emilee is here," I heard my mum shout. Taking a short run, I jumped over some boxes and because I was extremely clumsy, I stumbled a little. After finding my balance I made my way downstairs. When I reached the bottom Emilee hugged me, enthusiastically.
"Happy Birthday for Tuesday. I still can’t believe that we won’t be celebrating your birthday together at school," She said stepping back, her blonde hair moving into her dark green-blue eyes.
"I know. I’m going to miss you, even if you are going to come and visit," I told her.
"I’m going to miss you too, so what are we doing today?" She asked, moving her hair away from her eyes.
"We’re going to see the play at the village hall."
"Sounds good. I’ve got you your present. One minute," She said and went to her bag that was on the floor next to the door. She reached inside and pulled out a neatly wrapped present. Emilee skipped back to me with a big smile on her face.
"What’s with the giant grin?" I asked taking the present from her.
"because I think I have gotten you something you’re going to love."
"I always love your presents. You always know exactly what to buy."
"That’s because I am a mind reader," Emilee joked.
"You wish."
"Imagine all the fun we could have if I could."
"It would be pretty amazing."
"You two better set off, you don’t want to be late," My mum told us.
I put my present down on the table, to move when we came back and then I went to go put on my shoes. Grabbing my coat I shouted bye to my mum and we left the cottage.
We met a few residents on our way there some of which were going to the play. Some were more friendly than others.
The Village still seemed amazing to me and when we came to the hall we stopped Emilee’s reaction told me she felt the same way.
"Wow," she exclaimed.
"That’s exactly what I thought the first time I saw it," I said as I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head towards where I saw it but it was gone. Maybe I was starting to go crazy, but I could have sworn I saw someone standing at the end of the street, watching us.
"Are you alright?" Emilee asked me in concern, looking down the street.
"Yeah, I just thought I saw someone. I probably just imagined it. Come on let’s go inside," I said turning back towards the hall and started walking.
When Emilee and I were about to go inside the hall a tall strawberry blond haired boy reached for the handle first. I never even saw him walk up to the door. Obviously, I was too occupied by the disappearing person.
"Sorry, were you about to go in?" He asked.
"Yes," Emilee answered.
"Then ladies first," He said and opened the door for us. We entered muttering thank you.
"You’re welcome. So have you two just moved here?"
"No just me," I said.
"Well, it’s nice to meet you. I guess I’ll be seeing you around," He said and went ahead to a desk that sat a bored looking woman and a distracted young man playing on his handheld games console. He handed the woman a ticket.
"Enjoy the play," he called and then went through the doors.
Emilee and I made our way to the desk.
"Hi, can we have two tickets for the play please?" I asked.
"That will be fifteen pounds," The woman said. I opened my purse and handed her the money. In return, she handed us a small note saying that we had paid on the door.
We made our way inside. There weren’t many people in the hall, but yet it was quite noisy.
The inside structure was made up of wood and the stage was at the left-hand side of the room, and the rest of it was covered in lined up chairs. We sat down on some seats near the front as we did people began to appear on the stage and everyone fell silent. The play was starting.
"In a kingdom far from our own world was falling. It was the poorest of the other kingdoms around it, which meant that they couldn’t prepare the damages caused by the fearful, vicious dragon," A woman said. She was dressed in a vintage dress. It was as if she had stepped straight out of the medieval ages but it had a fantasy feel to it. Her hair was tied up with fake flowers and she looked amazing. I really loved the dress and hair, it made her look beautiful not that she wasn’t pretty normally.
"This dragon had caused many things that should never be a problem, like poverty, homelessness and hunger. This story tells of one brave young boy caught up in this destruction that the dragon had brought," said the other woman. She wore a slightly different dress but it was the same style, and she didn’t have the flowers in her hair. I wasn’t keen on the dress like the other one, but it still fits the theme they were going for perfectly.
"Now our story begins."
They both left the stage and the stage crew brought on props that I think could have been a bed, and maybe some sort of cupboard. It was hard to tell because they didn’t really look real. They were more like wooden boxes. After they had left a boy entered, he too was in medieval style clothing. He laid down on the bed.

I thought the play was fantastic. It left me with so many questions. It had me gripped till the very end and the costumes, and makeup was splendid. The artists did a good job capturing the play’s themes perfectly.
In the end, they managed to kill the dragon. Well it was more like the boy and his friend (who many people called stupid for helping him to fight the dragon because she was a girl.) In the end, she proved that she could fight and she was a lot braver than the men; even more than some of the army soldiers, who were too scared.
Although I didn’t blame them, but not trying to stop it was coward like or maybe they just thought they could never win to such a huge, terrifying creature like a dragon.
To me, it just seemed weak and coward like to just give up and not to fight to stay alive or to save humanity. Although, I didn’t know what it would be like to be in a similar situation so I couldn’t really know what I would do.
Anyway, in the end, they had managed to kill the dragon after struggling and failing so many times. Of course, battling the dragon hadn’t been easy.
We had our dinner when we got back to my house. We had helped our mum to make chicken pasta, which turned out to be very tasteful. After we all had eaten Emilee’s mum arrived to pick her up. I answered the door when she knocked and I called Emilee. Emilee put on her coat and picked up her bag. Before she could leave I hugged her. "Bye, I’ll see you soon," I said.
"Bye, Vicky. I’ll see you too and I will message you later."
"Okay, thank you for my present."
"Bye Emilee. It was nice seeing you," My mum added.
"Bye Sally. It was nice seeing you also."
"Bye, Sally, Vicky," Emilee’s mum said and then they went to the car. They both waved from within the car so we waved back and then the car drove off.

Not long after my tea that night I went to bed but not before I opened my present. The present had turned out to be a new book trilogy that I couldn’t wait to start reading.
Tomorrow was my first day at my new school so I hoped I would be able to sleep peacefully without any strange noises.
The smell of bacon and bread hit me even before I reached the bottom of the stairs. It made my belly rumble. I saw that my mum was setting the table and bringing out the sandwiches. She smiled as I sat down at the table. Then she handed me my sandwich, before sitting down with her own.
