Chapter 14
Vicky
Back at the cottage Emilee hadn't even waited until I shut the door before she demanded, "so spill." She was moving on the spot awkwardly, clearly impatient for answers.
I closed the door and then told her, "okay, so you know how I said that this was the town I was born in? Well the reason why my mum moved us to the city was because I was in danger well I still am." I though that was a good way to begin telling her.
"What? I don't understand. Why?" She wondered.
"Huh, well you see I am a destined one. There is about four of us according to legends that are born every generation. We are granted powers over the elements from the gods and goddesses to help us keep the peace between regular humans and supernaturals and to stop evil from hurt the innocent. I am sort of in danger because some supernaturals do not like the idea of getting along with regular humans, so they want us dead. We returned home here because I am old enough now to learn to control my powers and my magic has grown stronger. I can protect myself better now," I answered, hoping I was explaining it all correctly.
She nodded so I assumed she understood what I was saying and then she spoke again. "So how many other supernatural creatures exist other than vampires?"
"Witches, Werewolves, Lycans, Shaper shifters, soul suckers, fairies and there's also paranormal creatures too such as Ghosts, Demons and Angels," Nick answered. She muttered OK to him and then turned back to me.
"If you have these element powers, Vicky, then are you a supernatural or are you just an ordinary human with these granted powers?" She asked me.
"I'm a Witch," I stated.
"That explains a lot actually," she said.
Now was a probably good idea to tell her about my vision. "There's something else I must tell you. It's very important," I began.
"What is it?" Her eyes flashed with worry.
"Well I don't think those two vampires were trying to kill you but kidnap you and me. They are destined ones too but they aren't using their powers for good," I finished.
"Oh," she said and glanced towards the wall, in thought and then turned back to face me. "So is there more of you? More supernaturals in the village I mean?" She asked.
"Yeah, there's my mum's friend Emma who's a witch, then there's Nick's friend Diego who's a Lycan," I told her.
"And my mum, dad and sister too. They are vampires like me. We were born vampires," Nick added.
"OK so how do we stop those vampires? How do we keep ourselves safe from them?" She wondered.
"Protection charms. Me and mum have been working on some. She may have finished them by now," I replied, hoping that she had because we needed them urgently. Especially since they were in town already. "Mum?" I called to see if she was still at home.
"In the kitchen, honey," she replied. Good.
"I'll go tell her what happened and see if she's finished with the charms," I told Emilee and Nick. Then headed for the kitchen. Opening the door I saw my mum packing herbs into little pouches and tying them with little red ribbons.
"Mum are the charms finished yet? We need them as soon as possible we just bumped into the evil ones and they tried to hurt Em," I asked her when the door closed behind me.
She picked up some of the little bags she prepared and turned to me. "Just finished them," she replied handing me the charm bags in her hands. I took them.
"Great," I said smiling. I could now worry a little less.
She picked up the remainder of the bags before adding, "You need to be more careful, Vicky. It's dangerous walking around the village by yourself and unprotected, especially now that they are back. How many times do I need to tell you that?" She said firmly.
I looked to the floor and shuffled my feet on the floor be for mumbling, in reply. "Yeah, I'm sorry mum."
"It's alright just don't do it again. Let's go give some of these to Emilee," she said.
I mumbled an okay and followed her back into the living room.
"Here you go Emilee," my mum said giving her pouches to her.
"Thank you," Emilee replied smiling taking them from her.
"Make sure to keep one with you always," my mum ordered.
"Of course," she says. "So these will protect me?" She added.
"Yeah, as long as you don't lose them," I told her.
Then she placed one in her pocket and took the others to her bag to put them away. We also decided to watch a film for a little while and Nick stayed for a bit too.
"So how come you can go out in the daylight?" Emilee asked Nick now that we was all sat on the sofa watching TV.
"All vampires can. It doesn't kill us but when we turn in to adult vamps the sun can cause us discomfort. It can really hurt our eyes and when it's very sunny outside we can burn very easily more than ordinary humans," Nick explained to her.
"Okay, so you aren't dead, you was born this way and you can go out on the sunlight. What about garlic then?" She wondered.
"Yum... Now I fancy garlic bread," Nick replied.
"So then you can eat it," she stated.
"Yep, and we can cross running water, crosses or religious symbols can't harm us, because we aren't evil and some can even be religious themselves. We can't turn into bats or smoke. We can grow old, just slower, we can die and we need to eat regular food too," Nick explained.
"Oh, that's completely different to fiction then."
"A lot different. Ordinary humans made most of them up years ago because they refused to understand us through fear and to scare little children in to staying away from us and because they thought we were monsters," Nick said.
"That makes sense," she said in agreement and took a slight pause before continuing, "so do you have any powers too?"
"As a vampire no but when I get older I'll be faster, and stronger. As a destined one I have fire and earth powers," he replied.
"What? You're one of them too?" She asked. He nodded and she muttered "cool."
Then we turned back to watching the film. I looked at the screen with a smile on my face. I'm glad that Emilee knows about me now. No more secrets. Just the way I like it between us. Plus, now it will be a little easier protecting her, now that she knows, I thought.
