Vicky

I was in the bathroom finishing getting ready for the Halloween party.

Why does everyone think witches wear pointy hats? Because I have never known a real-life witch to wear one. My mum didn't and neither did I. Well except for the Halloween costume I had on. Even though real witches didn't wear hats like that, there was no denying how pretty it was. I placed it on my head and walked out of the bathroom and down the stairs.

Just like he knew I had gotten ready, Nick knocked on the door. I knew it was him because I could sense that he was near. It was kind of strange but our connection wasn't exactly what you'd call normal. What normal couple could hear each other's thoughts?

I skipped happily to the door and opened it. He wore a white shirt and black trousers accompanied by a black and red cape. Two crimson coloured lines ran down from either side of his mouth down to his chin. Was it strange that he actually looked really good dressed up in a vampire Halloween costume? I guessed that maybe vampire costumes really were made for vampires. He also had a huge grin on his face, that lit up his already bright green eyes.

"Is that real blood or fake?" I wondered. It looked fake but I couldn't be too sure since he was a vampire and all, but I doubted he would go to a party with real blood on him.

"Fake," he replied. "You look amazing by the way. Strangely the dress really compliments you," he added.

"Strangely you look amazing too," I said.

"Are you ready to set off?" He asked.

"Yeah, just let me go tell mum I'm going," I replied.

"Alright."

I went to go find my mum who I found in her room, hanging up some clean clothes in the wardrobe.

"Mum, I'm off to the party now; Nick's here," I told her and she turned around to face me still holding a blouse and a hanger in her hands.

"Alright, I'll come to pick you up at eleven," she said.

"Okay, I'll see you later."

"Have fun," I heard her say as I began to leave the room.

"We can go now," I told Nick when I reached the bottom of the stairs. We left after shutting the door behind us. I grabbed a hold of Nick's hand and started walking. My first Halloween party was just a few streets away. Soon we would be there.

As we approached the music became louder and the more my excitement but anxiety grew. I hated it when I was in the middle of the room filled with people, making it too crowded. When it was, I had more people to embarrass myself in front of, but hopefully, since it was only a village party there wouldn't be many people there. I hoped not everyone from the town turned up, that some stayed at home.

"Yey, you're here," An over-excited voice said. I turned to face where it was coming from and her face clarified my guess to as who it was. It was Alyesha. Her costume was a dark angel. She wore a black dress and wings, and on the top of her head, she had a feather halo.

"Well, we needed to do something, too celebrate Nick's birthday," I said.

"It's your birthday today?" She asked him.

"No my birthday is 17th October but I never celebrated it, so I am today instead," he said. She looked a little disappointed.

"Oh, well it would be pretty cool if it was your birthday today what with it being a holiday. Especially Halloween, the only time of the year, when the veil between the living and the dead is the thinnest or so they say. But imagine having your birthday on Christmas?" She was off again. I swear she could talk for Britain. Start her off on a topic and off she would go talking all night. Yet, again she'll probably put everyone to sleep before she even finished.

"Would you get extra presents? Actually, you wouldn't get double would you? Because everyone is buying presents for other people, so it wouldn't be so great to have your birthday on Christmas. But, I do think people with the birthdays on Christmas should get the most spent on them because the day is kinda extra special for them. I'm going on again, aren't I? I don't know why you never tell me to shut up," she finished.

"It's fine honestly. You just have a lot to say is all," Nick said.

"But you must get bored of me sometimes."

"Erm- well. Sometimes you have interesting things to say which prevent us from being bored," he replied, trying not to answer it directly.

"But what about the other times, when I talk about a load of rubbish?"

"Sometimes you do but we love you all the same," I said. It was true even though she got on our nerves sometimes, she was a great friend to have.

"Aw, I love you too, Vicky," she said back. "Let's go party," she added turning around on one foot, almost like a ballerina. Both of us followed her into the hall.

It was completely decorated with cobwebs and fake spider, paper chandeliers and with those horror portraits, that changed with a move of your head decorated the walls. Bats and ghosts hung from the ceiling, and carved pumpkins all with strange looking faces sat atop the food table and two were placed on either end of the stage, where Mr Greyer was stood at a table with a laptop playing music out of the speakers. The decorations looked more spooky in this fitting building. The old pillars and structure fit well with the Halloween decorations.

On the dark dance floor, I could see the faces of the dancing people, which glowed a different colour from the flickering light show. There weren't many people here but it was still earlier. However, this didn't settle my nerves.

"Can we go sit down for a bit?" I thought to Nick, feeling out of place here at this party. This wasn't my usual scene. I preferred not being in a crowd. Sitting at home with friends watching horror movies, suited me just fine. But I couldn't just experience things just because of my social anxiety, right? I had to live my life. I was slightly more confident now since making friends and meeting Nick. I wasn't as nervous about meeting new people and wasn't scared in a crowd, but I felt like my old self could creep back in at any second.

"Sure. I want to check out what food they have anyway," he thought back.

"You and food. Is that all you think about?" I joked and started walking toward the food table.

"Of course not. I think about other things too."

After he glanced at the food table for five minutes, he got a plate of it and finally went to go sit down. The seats were on the opposite side of the hall so we were a good few metres away from everyone else.

Nick started eating as I turned away from the dancing Monsters, Vampires and Zombies. I tried to see what he had on the plate but it was too dark to do so. I reached over and took some of it anyway, and now I could see that I had a tuna sandwich and took a bite from it.

"That's so impolite you know, just taking food without asking?" He said but I knew he was joking because I knew he didn't mind me eating it.

"May I have some of your food, my Lord of darkness," I joked.

"You may mighty Priestess of Witches," he said back. His voice was full of humour.

We both giggled at our lame joke before he spoke again.

"You know, I don't mind sharing anyway. Any food of mine is yours too," he added.

"As is mine, Nicki," I said and then finished off my sandwich.

We finished off the food and Nick got up from his seat. "Would you grant me the pleasure of dancing with such a beautiful princess?" He asked me.

"Princess? Am I not an angel? I mean isn't that what you call me not a princess," I wondered.

"You are both Miss Vicktoria Wilson," he replied.

"I beg to differ. I'm not angelic and I'm far from being royal," I told him.

"To me, you are the most angelic person I know and you don't have to be royal to be a princess because you will always be one to at least one person, and that is what you are to me," he said.

"Well, you are a prince to me," I said.

"Anyway, you still haven't answered my question, will you dance with me?"

"I don't know, there are too many people on the dance floor," I replied. I didn't want to say no. How could I deny his invite? I would be completely stupid to pass up dancing with him, but I was nervous. I wasn't good in crowds never mind dancing in them.

"I promise it will be fine. If you want to leave the dance floor fine but try first, okay?" he said.

"Okay, I'll try," I agreed and this made him smile. I took a hold of his hand and let him lead me to the dance floor.

He put his arms around my waist and I put my arm around his shoulders. had to reach a little up high since he was at least five inches taller than me. He started moving to the beat of the music so I looked down to his feet. I started to follow his steps as well as I could, so I didn't end up standing on them. Dancing with boys was a new concept to me. When I was certain I had the hang of it I looked back up and noticed some people looking up at us or maybe they weren't, but I felt like they were. I could hear my breath quickening, matching the beat of my fast beating heart. Nick pulled me closer.

"It's just me. There's no one else. We're alone. Just relax," he said in my ear trying to calm me down.

I took a deep breath and tried to relax as much as I could. My breathing already beginning to slow down at his words.

It's just me and Nick, I thought just as the lights went out and the music stopped, filling the room with an eerie silence.

Vicky

A loud shriek pierced the air and it made me jump. Following it was a loud bang. It sounded like something hit the floor, just as the lights and music played once more.

As soon as the music played again it stopped. Mr Greyer had turned the music off this time, and with a quick glance at each other Nick and I ran towards the girl laid on the floor. was sat down beside the girl, crying. They must be friends.

"Did you see what happened to her?" I asked her as we knelt down beside her.

"No, when the power went out I just heard her scream and then when the lights came back on I saw her laying on the floor."

"She'll be okay. She's just fainted," Nick said.

Mr Greyer came running over in a fit of panic and in fear that someone was seriously injured or worse. Dead.

"Everyone gives her some space," he said to the teens and young adults that were gathered around trying to get a look at the girl on the floor. No one listened to him at first so he said more firmly, " Move back." With that, they moved back a little but their noisy and curious eyes still remained glued to the poor girl.

"I think she's just fainted," Nick told him.

"Yes, I can see that. Leave it to the adults now," he replied not in a very nice tone and knelt down on the floor next to Nick. Nick looked at him as if he was debating whether or not to say something back. He decided against it and stood up. I did the same and we stepped back to leave the girl in Greyer's hands.

"Did you hear that noise earlier?" Nick asked me telepathically, which dragged my eyes away from the fainted girl to him.

"What noise?" I telepathed back confused. I never heard anything, but the music and the girl screaming and falling to the floor.

"The giggling?" He replied.

"There was no giggling. Well, I didn't hear it," I told him and then he looked away from me towards the door. He was looking for something. I looked to where he was and that's when I saw it. Fluttering, it's way out of the door being careful not to be spotted, was a tiny person with pink wings. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was no way I was seeing it but you'd think that I'd be used to the weird and supernatural by now. However, there was no mistaking it, there was an actual fairy leaving the party.
As I was looking at it, wonderstruck, I noticed that Nick was making his way through the crowd to follow after the little creature. I started after him. The thing noticed us walking towards it so it began to run. We chased it out of the town hall into the middle of the street.

"Hey, stop," Nick shouted and the fairy jumped in shock and turned around to face us.

"Did you do that in there?" He asked, talking in a tone that was higher than his normal talking voice. The fairy only had small ears so it might have had a hard time hearing our normal level of speaking.

In reply to Nick it spoke in a voice I couldn't hear clearly. All I heard was a sort of tuneful hum but I knew Nick would have no difficulty hearing its words. He could hear slightly better than other humans. That was an advantage of being a vampire.

Nick

That fairy had better not just harmed that girl in there. If it had it had since serious explaining to do. Fairies weren't particularly known for violence but they were highly mischievous in nature. They loved messing around and causing trouble.

"I switched off t' source an' back on again, ye. I did nought to the' young miss," she replied.

"Is that the truth?" I questioned.

"Ye."

"Okay, but was that really necessary turning the out the power like that, especially in front of people who don't know about supernaturals?"

"Ye. It was fun," she answered.

"Just be careful. You don't want the wrong eyes seeing you," I told her.

"They don't need to worry about me," she said.

"It's just that lots of bad things have been happening around here. Some people have been getting attacked and it's really dangerous to be running around, causing all sorts of mischief right now, as there could be some very evil supernaturals coming attacking the village very soon. You just need be careful okay?" I told her.

"Okay," she agreed. "Please tell thou, young miss, to stop staring a' me," she added. I turned around after she finished speaking and noticed Vicky was looking at the little fairy in wonderment.

"S- Sorry," Vicky stuttered, feeling a little embarrassed and bad for staring. She bent her head down and looked to the floor.

"It' ok. By now," the fairy said and flew away.

"Oh, my God. Fairies are real too!" She explained, clearly in shock of her recent discovery, as she lifted her head so suddenly it was amazing she didn't cause damage to her already bruised neck. It amused me that she could still be surprised by all this after two months of finding out about supernaturals. Well, it was still fairly new to her and she was still learning about the world, and Witch's magic so that was in her advantage. Most supernaturals new about other ones since they were young but Vicky never did. Her mother never told her. She thought that it would keep her safe from the evil supernaturals looking to kill the destined ones and in theory, it did for sixteen years but it meant that she couldn't cast spells at the same level of witches her age, but that didn't stop her. She had already learnt so much in such a small amount of time. She was such a fast learner and that was probably down to her determination to be able to fight back against the evil ones.

"Shouldn't you use to things like this now?" I asked.

"I should, but it's still all so amazing to me. I use to read about this stuff in books and watched movies and shows about them but I never believed them to be true. Now, that I know they are it's just exciting you know and I just love learning new things about this world," she replied with such a childlike wonderment and excitement. Oh, how she was just so optimistic about everything even after she had seen the true horrors of this world. She'd seen just how evil and corrupted a person can become just to get there own way and will hurt and use others. Harassment, humiliation and isolation she had been the target of just as I myself had been but her pure heart couldn't help but see the good in people. What was it she told me just a night ago? Ah, yes that she believed that every single person still had a hint humanity left within side them no matter how corrupt they were. Even if it was just a tiny smidge of it, it was enough for a person to be saved. Oh, how I wish I could see it that way. How I wished I could forgive the people who cast me aside, of their wicked ways. How I wish I could believe that the evil ones could ever change. And how I wished that I did not hate every second spent within that village and that I didn't long to make the evil ones suffer for hurting my Vicky. I wished I shared her optimism, but just being her positive presence made me happy and made me have a sense of hope that maybe, just maybe she was right.

"There are many things left to see. If one day we manage to escape this awful town, I will show you it all. We'll see the world," I promised her.

"If we are together that long," she said.

"Do you not have hope that we will? You're always full of hope but why not at us being together a long time?"

"I do but people change," she replied.

"And you think either of us will change so drastically that we don't like each other no more?"

"I hope not,"

"Then you must make a promise that if through everything we are still together and still living we will leave this place together. See everything this world has to offer and start a new life a happier one."

"Nicki promised you the first time you ever mentioned it," she said.

"I know you did, but I had to confirm because as you said people change so they can change their minds."

"I will never change my mind about it as long as we are still friends."

"You are my best friend"

"Isn't Diego your best friend?"

"Yes, and as are you? Am I not yours?"

"Of course you are," she replied.

Vicky

"Where did you two go? I've been looking everywhere for you." Aleysha's normally preppy, happy voice was full of worry and annoyance as she approached from behind us. We turned around to face her as she continued speaking.

"I thought something bad happened to you both. Don't ever ditch me like that again because I nearly had a goddam heart attack. I swear everyone is out to kill me," she said.

"We just needed air after what happened," I told her.

"Sure and you couldn't even come to let me know. God, why do you want me to die of a heart attack?" She asked still being over dramatic.

"Aly, no one is trying to give you a heart attack and no one wants you to die. You're being highly melodramatic. We just needed air and as you can see we are perfectly fine," Nick said.

"I'm not being melodramatic because how did I know that you were OK?" She wondered.

"We're sorry ok," I replied.

"Okay, but please don't do it again, promise?" She asked.

"Okay," I said.

"Anyway, Mr Greyer has called an ambulance. It's on its way. God, I hope poor is okay and I wonder what happened to the lights. No one even knows what caused the power to cut out. Isn't it strange?" She now was back to speaking in a happier tone.

"Erm... Yeah," I muttered in reply.

"Looks like the party's been cut short anyway. Let's go to Katie's her and Jess are having a horror movie marathon, I think. I'm not too particularly fond of them but it beats cutting Halloween night short," she offered. I did like the sound of that and if I knew earlier about it then I would have gone their instead of the party.

"I don't know we kinda have something today and besides how late are they staying up? We can't stay long we have to go home," Nick wondered.

"Come on. Please. Pretty please," she begged to look at him with puppy dog eyes.

"Please don't look at me that way," he said.

"Then say yes,"

"No, you can't make me say anything I don't wanna,"

"So you don't want to come?"

"Now I never said that did I?"

"Watson just give a straight answer will ya? Yes or no? It's not hard," she demanded.

"I'm not sure,"

"No not sure isn't a valid answer."

"Fine, I'll come because you're going to keep nagging aren't you?"

"Yey," she said and hugged him.

"Vicky what about you?"

"Well if you're going and Nick is I guess I'll go to then."

"Double yey," she said and hugged me too.

"Let's go," she said and we set off towards Katie's house.
