Chapter 10
Vicky
All I could think of the next morning was my vision of the night before and how I could prevent it from happening. I could tell that my mum sensed I was worried about something but she hadn't confronted me yet. I wondered if she was waiting till after breakfast to ask me.
As me and my mum was finishing up eating the landline ran, so I jumped from my seat. I ran all the way to the phone and answered it.
"Hello," I said.
"Hi, Vicky," I heard Emilee's voice say in return.
"Yes," I said.
"What do you mean yes?" She wondered.
"You didn't call me Will," I replied.
"Oh, so you do want me to call you it?" She asked.
"No don't call me it," I ordered.
"Relax I'm joking about. Anyway, I called to ask if I could come over tomorrow?" No that was a very bad idea but I couldn't say no to her. I didn't reply straight away my mind was too busy debating whether or not I should let her come. If she didn't come then she would be safe but on the other hand I didn't exactly know when the vision was going to happen. If she came I could try my hardest to keep her safe and if I told her about me then that might come at an advantage. I'd have to wait till she got here though because I didn't think that this was something you should tell a person over the phone. But I knew I should tell her as soon as possible.
"Hello, Vicky you still there?" She asked when I didn't reply.
"Yeah, I'm here and sure you can come," I replied trying my hardest not to let my voice be shaky. However I don't think I was very successful in doing so.
"Great it's going to be fun. Anyway, I must be going. See you tomorrow Will," she said and then coughed. "I mean Vicky," she added.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow Em," I said and ended the call. Well to day is going to be eventful, I thought and sighed. I returned the phone and headed back over to the table.
"Mum Emilee is coming over tomorrow," I told her.
"Okay that's fine. Are you catching the bus today or do you want me to drive you?" She asked.
"Catch the bus if that's okay?" I wondered.
"That's fine darling," she replied. I nodded and then went upstairs to brush my teeth and to finish getting ready for school. Once ready I sat downstairs for a little while to see if Nick turned up. He had never said that he was coming this morning but he had a tendency to just show up or do things spontaneously to surprise me. Once it reached a little after half seven I realised he probably wasn't coming today because if he was he would have been here by now. Plus I couldn't wait any longer or I'd miss the bus. It was due very soon. I got up from the sofa called bye to my mum and headed out the door.
When I reached the bus stop I saw Catherine and her best friend my bad mood automatically grew worse. There was something more important to think about to day than having to deal with them and that was finding a way to keep my own best friend safe. As I approached I made sure not to look in their direction. Instead I glanced down at the floor in hopes that they wouldn't talk to me but that was extremely hopeful, as I found out.
"Where's your boyfriend today? Did you finally see sense and dump him?" Catherine asked with a smirk on her face.
"No I haven't dumped him," I answered as I looked up to her.
"Are you sure you don't have brain damage?" Her friend asked and they both giggled.
I just shook my head in disgust and looked down the street for the bus. The bus better come soon, I thought because I knew I wouldn't have been able to stand another minute standing there with them or my anger would just grow. All I wanted was to be able to talk to Nick and my friends to calm my worry that the vision had caused.
As if to answer my prayers bus turned the corner and was heading down the street. I jumped forwards and put my hand out. When it was close enough to know that the driver had seen us I retrieved my hand. A few seconds later the bus came to a stop in front of us and the doors opened. I walked on and showed him my pass. Then I went to find Kaitee. I found her sat at the back of the bus so I went to go join her.
"Morning," she said as I sat down next to her.
"Morning Kaitee," I replied.
"Looks like we have company this morning," she told me. Her voice and face seemed annoyed and disappointed. I was about to ask her what she meant but then I saw that Catherine and her friend had sat down in the seats in front of us. It looked like they had a another plan to torture Nick today and they'd probably go all out doing everything possible thing they could think of to bully him, as it was Friday. There was also no doubt that Ash and his friends wouldn't have in on 'the fun' either. Now not only would I worry about Emilee all day, I would be worrying about Nick too.
A few minutes later the bus arrived outside Nick and Bella's house. Nick had to drag Bella on the bus because she was refusing to get on by the looks of it. He managed to get her on and once they showed their passes they made their way down the bus.
Catherine turned her head around to look at me. She had an evil smirk on her face. "Looks like your freak's alive," she said.
"Why wouldn't he be?" I asked.
"Oh, no reason just that anything could happen over night and sometimes you don't know everything about the person you're dating," she replied and turned back around. What? Was all I could think in response. What she said had shocked me and it couldn't have been true could it? I looked at Kaitee but she didn't give me a answer.
"How's my beautiful princess this fine morning?" Nick asked when they reached us so I turned away from Kaitee knowing I wouldn't get a answer out of her.
"I'm good, you?" I asked him.
"That's good and I'm great thanks." he replied.
"What about you Bella?" I asked her but she just replied with a groan and sat down near the window on the opposite side.
"She's extremely tired and didn't want to come to school today, so just ignore her she's grumpy," Nick told me as he sat down beside me.
"Now what's the matter?" He asked me telepathically. I should have known that I couldn't fool him with the I'm good nonsense.
"Last night I had a vision," I told him.
"What happened?"
"It looked like me and Emilee had been kidnapped so I'm worrying that she might be in danger because of me and that I stupidly agreed to letting her come over tomorrow." I said.
"Don't worry. Nothing bad will happen to her I promise. We'll go around to the mansion after school and figure something out," he reassured me.
"I hope so," I said as Catherine threw a paper aeroplane at Nick. It bounced off his head and landed on the floor in front if him.
"Aren't you going to pick it up?" She asked.
"No, I don't want to," he replied.
"But there's something that we wrote especially for you last night," she told him.
I was about to pick it up when Nick stopped me. "No Vicky leave it," he ordered.
"But we can't leave it on the floor," I told him.
"Fine but don't read it," he said and I bent down and picked it up. I sat up straight in the seat and unfolded it. Yes, I was aware that Nick had told me not to read it but I was curious as to what mean things they had said about him now.
We just bumped into the freakshow yesterday and they asked if we had seen a strange looking boy with black hair and green eyes and that he had escaped a few years back. Said they had trouble tracking him down until now and that they believe he is hiding in this town living with a family who is passing him off as their son. We told them we didn't know who they were talking about, so you should be greatful. But we decided we should warn you that this big scary, evil looking guy is looking for you so you better watch out. It read.
Huh, I can't believe them. Why can't they let this whole freak thing drop? He wasn't even a freak and he didn't look strange either. He looked normal. Yes, I agree that he acted a little weird sometimes but aren't we all weird in our own way? I scrunched up the paper in my hands.
"I told you not to read it," Nick said noticing the look on my face.
"Why can't you just leave him alone?" I shouted and every turned around to look at us. They only looked for a second and was back to doing what they were doing previously to my out burst.
"Because Vicky do you not remember what he said to me? He had no right to speak to me like that," she replied.
"You was picking on him like you do everyday," I pointed out.
"What ever. But seriously Nick I really think you need to read it. It might help you," she told him.
"Help with what?" He wondered.
"Just read it," she ordered him.
"It's just a joke, Nick," I told him. I really didn't want him to read it.
"Most likely," he agreed and held out his hand. Reluctantly I gave him it. "Here, have you paper back and leave me alone. Got it?" He said as he held it out for Catherine to take.
"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you," she said and opened her hand. He dropped it in her hand, then she grabbed it and turned back around.
After several minutes we finally arrived outside the School gates. Nick turned to Bella who hadn't moved an inch at our arrival. In fact she hadn't moved much or spoke a word since she got on the bus. Well she didn't speak she grunted at me but still it was something vocal.
"Yo, Bells where at School," Nick said but she didn't look up or reply. He moved closer to her and shook her gently. "Hey, wake up," he added. This got a reaction from her.
"Get lost freak. Can't you see I'm trying to sleep?" She said.
"Yeah, but you can't sleep now we just arrived at School," he replied.
"So?" She said and shrugged her shoulders.
"So move," Nick ordered.
"But I don't want to. I wanted to stay at home in bed," she pointed out.
"Then you shouldn't have stayed up till 3 O'clock in the morning," Nick said
"You're the one who forced me too," she told him.
"I didn't force you. You could have gone to bed. You didn't have to agree to staying up did you?" Nick asked.
"Fine but I need sleep. I'm tired so how can I even concentrate in class?" She wondered.
"I'm tired too but you can't stay on the bus and sleep. The bus driver is waiting for us to. leave so he can go," he said but she still didn't move. "Come on Bella, stop being so stubborn," he said as he took a hold of her arm and tried to pull her away from the seat.
"But Nick, I don't want to," she said.
"Stop acting like a child," he ordered.
"I am a child technically, I'm 13," she told him.
"What ever just get you skates on," he said letting go of her arm in defeat and started to walk down the bus. Me and Kaitee followed, but I looked back. We couldn't leave her sat there. What if she didn't follow us into School? Nick had tried though and it looked like nothing was going to get her to move so I turned back around and carried on walking.
"Fine then. Wait up," she said this and then sighed. Bella ran down the bus to catch up with us.
"I knew you'd change your mind," Nick said smiling.
"Shush," she told him.
We all made our way off the bus and into School. I couldn't be bothered with it, not today of all days, but there was nothing I could do. It was just part of everyday life that couldn't be avoided and wouldn't go away just because I was a destined one and had visions that predicted when something bad was going to happen. Hopeful the day would go quick and it'll be time to go home before I knew it.
