Chapter 2
Vicky
"Vicky," Kaitee called when we reached where she was sitting.
"Come sit at the back," Nick said.
"There is only three seats spare though and your sister will want to sit down when she gets on," Kaitee pointed out.
"Someone will move for her," he said.
"She can't force someone to move for her when they were already sat there."
"She doesn't need to force them. They'll move regardless and this is Bella we're talking about. She doesn't care if they were sat there before her. If she wants to sit in the seat, she'll sit in it."
"Come on, Kait we can sit all together then," I said.
"Okay," she agreed and picked up her bag while standing up. She followed us to the back. Nick went to the seat window, I sat in the next one and Kaitee sat in the one next to me.
"What courses are you two choosing for next year?" Kaitee asked us.
"English, Music, history," I said.
"I'm choosing English and Music too and probably animal care. What about you?" Nick said.
"Music, law and maybe biology," Kaitee said.
"Is Jess choosing music too?" I wondered.
"Yeah, I think so," she replied.
"Yey, we get to write more songs. I loved playing at the school concert," I said.
"I thought you hated singing on stage because you get stage fright?"
"I am but it was also fun. We played so well."
"Me and Vicky was also thinking about making a band, but we didn't know if you and Jess wanted to," Nick said.
"Of course I would, it sounds fun and I'm sure Jess would too."
The bus pulled up outside Nick's parent's farm and Bella came on. As she made her way down the bus, people moved in their seats to get further away from her as possible.
A few people in the village was slightly scared of her because she was very good at fighting and wasn't afraid to hit anyone if they said something to make her mad. She carried on walking forward to the back. When she got to the back she glanced at the boy sat next to Kaitee and he quickly picked up his bag and got out of his seat. He went to a spare one down near the front of the bus. Bella sat down.
"Erm.. Hi," Kaitee said nervously.
"Why are you saying hi like I am going to hit you?" She asked.
"Because that's what you do."
"I don't hit people for just saying hi. I'm not a monster," she said.
"It's just that I am a little bit scared of you," Kaitee told her.
"You don't need to be scared of me unless you do something to annoy me or make me angry. You haven't done something that will make me angry, have you?"
"No," Kaitee replied.
"Then you're fine," she said.
Our conversations fell short for awhile until the bus pulled up outside the school car park. Some people started to get off the bus and so did we. Bella got up first and we followed.
We had gotten down near the front of the bus, near where Katherine (I think that was what Nick had called her) and her friend, when Nick fell to the floor right in front of me.
I stopped too quickly and ended up falling too. I landed straight on top of him so that his hands that had stopped him from fully hitting the bus floor gave way. Now, he was laying on the floor with me on top of him, looking like an idiot. Everyone also burst out laughing except for a few people.
"Why did she fall too?" I heard a boy say in a voice filled with humour and then he chuckled, loudly.
"I'm so sorry," I said to Nick as I climbed up off of him.
"It's fine," he said as he got up.
"She's falling for you, Nick," Katherine's friend said.
"Haha, such an hilarious joke," he said sarcastically.
Bella came back up towards us. She had walked a little further down the bus than we had and she looked annoyed.
"What happened? Why did you two fall?" She asked Nick.
"Katherine put her foot out to trip me and I didn't see it. Vicky fell because she was stood behind me, so she tried to stop too fast," Nick replied.
He didn't even need to finish because she had already turned around and grabbed Katherine by her shirt, pulling her up out of her seat.
"I didn't trip him, he just fell," Katherine quickly said in fear.
"You expect me to believe that?" Bella asked.
"Bells just leave it. She's not even worth it," Nick told his sister.
"If you ever lay a finger on him again, you will be taking a long trip out of a bus window."
"Technically, I didn't lay a finger on him, " she said trying to sound brave but fear was written on her face.
"Finger, foot or arm, I don't care. If you touch him you're dead. Understand me?"
"Yes," Katherine replied.
"Good," Bella said and let go of her. She fell back in her chair as Bella walked off the bus.
I saw Nick following so I ran after them, and so did Kaitee.
"You don't have to hit or threating everyone who does something wrong to me. I can fight my own battles," Nick called to his sister as he tried to catch up.
"But you didn't did you? You was just going to let her get away with it," she said.
"What did you want me to do? I couldn't have hit her or grabbed her like you did could I?"
"Why not?"
"Because I don't hit girls that's why."
"That's why I did what I did because she needs to be taught a lesson, if she thinks can go around treating people the way she does without consequences. You can't hit girls, but I can so if she's mean to you that's what I'll do," Bella explained.
"When has you hitting her or threating her done any different? She still treats me the same way, like everyone else. All it has done as made them afraid of you, but their not scared of me so what difference does it make if you hit them?"
"But they need to have some type of punishment for what they do."
"But what's the point if they don't learn?" Nick asked as we entered the school building but she didn't reply.
He had a point. Could a person ever truly learn from being punished, if they believe that they weren't really doing anything wrong or that they enjoy doing it? Can a person really change who they are? I didn't know the answer, but I knew that hitting Katherine or the rest of the people in the village who was mean to Nick, wasn't going to change their opinion of him.
"See you later," Bella said and walked down the corridor to her classroom. We walked to our corridor before we came to a stop outside mine and Kaitee's form room.
Nick leaned down and kissed me on my lips. I kissed him back before he stepped back. "See you in English, Vicky."
"Bye," I said.
"Au revoir," he said to the both of us and walked towards his room. We turned around and walked into ours.
"Vicky," Kaitee called when we reached where she was sitting.
