Chapter 19
Vicky
"I really like her," Diego replied.
"And I really like him," Bella added.
"I was going to talk to you about it first, before we started going out. You know because it might be a little awkward," Diego said.
"Why would it be awkward?" Nick asked very monotone.
"You know since I'm your best friend and she's your little sister," Diego replied.
"Well it's not. It's not awkward or weird at all," Nick stated but the tone of his voice said he didn't believe that at all and he walked over to the kitchen counter. Then opened the bread bin.
We all followed him. "If you think it's too weird then we won't go out together," Diego suggested.
"Look if you do like her the way you said you do and she likes you then, who am I to stop you two dating. Plus if you both like each other I want you two to be happy. As long as my best friend and sister are happy then I'm happy," Nick said taking half a loaf of bread out and placing it in front of him.
"Really? You're fine with it?" Diego wondered.
Nick replied, "yes but if you ever do anything to hurt her I will knock you out. I don't care if you're my best friend," as he went to go get some butter and placed it next to the bread.
"I won't," Diego promised.
"Now does anybody want any toast?" Nick asked as he popped some bread in the toaster.
"Yeah, I'm hungry," Diego answered.
At his words my stomach seemed to rumble. "Me too," I said.
"Sure why not," Bella stated.
I went to go help Nick. Firstly I got out the plates and then the knife, which I placed on the kitchen top. Then I got the butter from the fridge and I placed that next to the pile of plates.
Once the toast was ready and we each had a plate we sat down at the table with Bella and Diego and began to eat. "We need to find those vamps. Those evil destined ones, who attacked you two," Bela stated looking at me and Nick.
"Yeah, but we don't know where they are. It's been nearly over a month and we haven't heard anything from them. They may be miles from here now," Nick told her.
"True, but can't Vicky do that vision spell again, the one Emma showed us, to see if you can track them down in a vision?" She wondered and then took a bite of her toast.
"I guess so. I mean it might actually work," I said
"Let's try it," Diego said. "Does your parents have any candles?"
"Yes, I think so," Nick replied.
"There should be some in one of the cupboards, shouldn't there?" Bella wondered.
"Should be," Nick replied.
"After we've finished eating, let's go do it," I suggested.
"Yeah, we can go out in the spare barn and do it. There will be more room," Bella said.
"Okay," I agreed.
We finished eating and then put our plates in the sink and then Bella opened a bottom cupboard, to pull out some candles which she placed on top of the kitchen counter. "How many do we need?" She asked.
"Just bring them all," Nick answered as he opened a draw and took out two lighters. He popped them in his pocket and then retrieved a plastic bag from the same draw. He closed the draw.
"Here, put them in here," he told his sister as he held the bag open.
She finished taking the last of the candles out and put them in the bag and picked up the ones she had placed down. She put them in the bag too. Once all the candles were in the bag she closed the door.
We headed out of the kitchen into the living room. Nick and Bella's patents were watching the TV. They turned to us when we entered.
"What you up to?" Jane questioned, eyeing the plastic bag in Nick's hand.
"We are going out the barn to try and cast that spell Emma showed us, to see if we can pin point the location of the evil ones," Nick replied.
"We'll come help you," Jane offered.
"No it's okay. I think we can manage. You and dad, chill. Watch TV," Bella said.
"The more people you have the more energy will be present. The more effective the spell which means that the vision will be more accurate," Jane explained.
"Okay, let's go then, it's getting late," Julian stated, turning the TV off with the controller and set it down on the coffee table.
The six of us headed back outside again, this time to the barn. It was now pitch black outside. The moon wasn't even visible, so I could barely see a thing. The small lights sticking out from the soil along the path hardly did anything to light up the way, so I made sure to stay close to Nick, who I knew would be having a better time seeing in this very minimal light. That way I would know the way I was going and didn't get lost by losing them.
After just a few seconds we came to a stop and I heard a noise like a door opening. I followed Nick forwards and then heard the door close.
"You two will have to stand in the middle of the circle because we don't have many candles to make it as big as the other one," Jane said.
"How does this spell work exactly?" Julian asked. That's right he wasn't here the last time we did the spell. He was away from home visiting family and on work business, I thought.
"We need to a make a circle of candles around Vicky and Nick, then light them. Then they must hold hands and light their own candle. We all then must close our eyes and chant the spell. After that Vicky and Nick must focus on finding them. Then they should get a vision," Jane explained to her husband.
"Sounds simple enough," he said.
"Vicky darling you must lead the spell. It won't work if any of us chant it because none of us are witches. Can you remember the words?" She asked me.
"I think so," I replied. What was it again? I thought as I searched my memory to try and recall the words.
"Well let's hope you do," Bella said.
"Alright, you two stand here," Jane told Nick and me as she guided me to the middle of the barn. "Nick, honey can you move forwards a little bit," she added.
I heard her walk away and then there were the sound of people walking and shuffling. A few minutes later I heard a clicking sound followed by a flask of light bursting into the dark. A candle was now lit. It lit up a little area of the barn. I could see Julian walking to the next candle. In a matter of minutes all the candles surrounding me and Nick were lit, flooding the barn with light. Well enough light so I could at least see the barn in more detail. It was empty except for a few bails of hay stacked in one corner.
Nick lit the candle he was holding. "Will it work if we hold only one hand?" He wondered.
"I'm sure it will," Jane answered. Nick and I saw that Jane held our her hands. They all took each others hands. It was time to cast the spell. I just hoped I could remember the words correctly.
Nick held out his hand to me, so I took hold of it.
"Alright, everyone close your eyes," Jane said, so I did. "When you're ready Vicky," she added.
Okay, what is it? I had to remember it. That's it, I think. I hoped they were the right words.
"Earth, air, water, fire and spirit we call you to our circle. Please help us in our time of need. Evil has risen. See we need were evil strikes again. Visions we seek to help us to stop their evil deeds," I chanted trying to match Emma's poetic tone but failed miserably. "So mote it be," added just to make sure the spell actually worked. Emma hadn't said those words but she was far more advance than me so I thought it would be best to end the spell that way.
The image of the orange, dancing flames just like the last time began to show behind my closed eyes. They drew me in deeper until my vision came. Slowly a scene came into focus. There was a town hall and inside there was a room used for various functions, similar to the one in our town hall. Stood near the front of the room there were two women and one man. As I moved closer I noticed their faces and I recognised two thirds of the small group. Two were the evil ones and they seemed to be talking to the women I didn't recognise. I tried focusing on what they were saying. Soon their words filled my ears.
"How's that spell coming along?" The male evil one asked.
Huh, they are working with a witch now? I gasped, in thought and then returned to listening.
"It's coming along nicely," the woman, who had to be the witch replied. She had black hair that faded to blonde at the end and she had pale brown skin.
"Excellent," the man said, with a smirk on his face.
"So how does this spell work?" The female evil one asked.
"It's simple. It will pass their power and energy onto you, making you stronger," the witch explained.
"So will this kill them too?" She asked.
"Yes, they will no longer be an issue to your plans," the witch told her. Both the evil ones were now smirking and the vision faded out.
I saw the the flames again so I opened my eyes. Now, with their words echoing in my ears, I was becoming aware of my fast beating heart. They are coming up with a plan to kill me and Nick, I thought as I was becoming short of breath. I don't want to die, I tried to say but I couldn't. I couldn't breath, I couldn't speak, my legs felt weak. I found myself falling to my knees.
Nick knelt down in front of me and looked at me, his eyes flashed with worry. "Vicky take deep breaths please," he said slowly and calmly.
I did just that and gradually it became easier to breath. "I don't want to die," I managed to say this time.
"We won't. We'll figure out a way to stop them before that happens," Nick stated.
"What if we don't? I'm worried that they'll win," I said.
"Let's have hope okay?" He told me and I nodded.
"I hope you are right. I hope we win," I said.
We are too young to die. There is so much I still wanted to do. Plus neither me or Nick are 18 yet. We can't die. Nick is right we will find a way to stop them. We have to our future depends on it, I thought trying to calm myself down and standing up.
"What did you see?" Bella asked.
I turned to face her and noticed the others were looking at us.
"The evil ones are working with a witch. She has a spell that will transfer all our power and energy to them, to make them stronger and it will kill us," Nick explained.
"I have never heard of such a spell. It's got to be very extreme dark magic. Emma or Sally might know more about it. I must speak to them first thing tomorrow," Jane said.
"In the meantime before we do stop them, I don't want you two going anywhere alone. Do you understand?" Julian asked us.
"Yes, dad," Nick replied.
"Yeah," I said.
"Good. Now, let's pack up and head back inside," he said.
Nick blew out the candle he was holding and the others blew out the rest. When all the candles were back in the plastic bag, I felt Nick put his arm around me, so I put my arm around him too. He pulled me closet and guided me out the barn.
"Please don't worry too much, angel. I don't want you to make yourself sick. Besides I wouldn't let them hurt a hair on your head," He thought to me.
"I wouldn't let them hurt you either," I thought back.
We all walked down the path back to the house. I really needed some sleep.
"I really like her," Diego replied.
"And I really like him," Bella added.
"I was going to talk to you about it first, before we started going out. You know because it might be a little awkward," Diego said.
