Chapter 18
Vicky
Diego's father stopped just feets away from him glaring and then shook his head. "Come home, Diego, this little charade has gone on for too long. You know you can't escape, that your place is within my pack. If you come with us now I promise they'll be no consequences to pay and your..." He paused as if he didn't want to speak the word that followed. "Friends shall live," he finally added, slowly.
"My place isn't within your pack. It never has been and never will be. I'm not like you dad. I don't fit in your pack," Diego told his father.
"Very well then," his dad said shrugging and then turned to face his pack members, who were stood a few feet behind him. "Attack," he ordered them and the two werewolves did as they were told. They ran towards us very quickly.
I nearly jumped up in the air in reaction and I could feel my heart quicken. But I tried to regain my cool so that I would be able to use my powers against them as one was ahead of the other and was getting super close now. I couldn't calm down quick enough, so Nick had beaten me too it. A small patch of grass in front of the werewolf's path set a light and it jumped back just in time. As it jumped to safety I noticed that the other one was very close to Bella and looked as if it was about to make a leap for her. Both her parents began to head for her to save her but I had now calmed down a little and my instinct kicked in using my powers I threw the werewolf, just as they had reached her. The werewolf skidded across the floor until he hit a tree.
"Stop it," I heard Diego demand. We all turned to face him, his father and pack also. His father's face held a wicked grin as if he had been amused watching his pack members and us fighting.
"Only if you come, but this is your last chance," his dad offered. Diego didn't reply straight away. Instead he looked over his shoulder at us and then back.
"They're not just my friends. They are my pack. My family," Diego told him as he stood up straighter and his voice no longer shakey. His father laughed at this before replying.
"You're in a pack with vampires and a witch? Although, I can see how a witch could come in handy but really?" His father scoffed.
"Yes. Haven't you always said a Lycan needs a pack? But I never fitted in yours but I have now found my own. Does it really matter what type of supernaturals are in it as long as they remain loyal to the pack?" Diego asked, firmly.
"Very well then, if you insist that these people are your pack, we'll leave you be, because you are correct you never did fit in my pack," his father replied.
"Really?" Diego wondered.
"No, I was joking. You still betrayed me. Doesn't matter if you never fitted in, you was still apart of my pack but even more than that; blood. You chose to run away and chose them other me," his dad shouted and stormed closer to him.
"I'm so sorry dad," Diego said weakly and every bit of confidence and courage he had just a few moments ago dripped away. His father reached out to grab him and he flinched away but not very fast. His dad grabbed him by his T-shirt.
"You will be," his dad said as Bella stepped closer.
"Let him go," she ordered.
"Back of this blood sucker," his dad ordered.
"Or what?" Bella asked.
"Or I'll kill you that's what," he replied.
"Not if I kill you first," Bella said. He smirked at that as Jane and Julian walked towards us.
"No, you will not kill her and you will let go of Diego now. You should be shamed of yourself treating your son this way. Do you make wonder why he ran away? You should rot in hell for how you treat him it's abuse and if you don't unhand him this instant, that's what you'll do," Julian ordered, his eyes yellow and his voice almost like a hiss.
"Is that a threat?" Diego's father asked.
"No that's a promise," he replied. His father just looked at him for awhile and then let go of Diego, realising that Julian was serious.
"Now, get out of here and never come back," Julian said. Diego's day didn't reply instead he turned to leave and the werewolf near the fire that was now a dying fire followed and began to dispear into the woods. The one against the tree scrambled to his feet and ran after them, growling at us as he went.
"Thank you but what if he comes back?" Diego said turning to Julian.
"He won't and if he does I'll make sure to stick to my promise," he replied.
"I'll help," Bella offered.
"Let us hope no one has to kill anyone. Let us hope that's the last of it," Jane said. I agreed with her. I didn't want anyone to kill anyone if it could be sorted out a different way.
"Now, let's go home," she added and we all began to follow her out of the woods. Nick took hold of my hand.
"Can Diego and Vicky stay over tonight?" Nick asked his parents as we walked along the forest path.
"Sure plus it's getting late now anyway," Jane answered.
Finally we came to the edge of the woods, but it was now pitch black. At least there was a little light coming from the full moon the last one for awhile. I glanced up at it and smiled. Diego is safe now. We just need to stop the evil ones, I thought as we approached the farm house and stepped inside.
"Can Vicky and Diego sleep over?" Nick asked his parents once we were inside the farm house.
"Sure I don't see why not plus it's getting late now," Jane replied.
Nick smiled and muttered, "thank you," and then told me to follow him outside to the horse stables. He said that he wanted to go check on Lunar even though his mum had tended to them before we had left to go meet those werewolves and Diego's dad, so I agreed and followed him.
We came to the stable and Nick pushed open the door. Then reached his hand inside and after a few seconds light flooded outside aluminating where we stood. Nick entered and held the door open for me so I took hold. He let go and went off ahead to Lunar's stable. I closed the door and followed.
"Hey, Lunar how's my special girl?" I heard Nick say as I just reached her stable. The white horse neighed loudly, as if it was telling him that she missed and and was happy to see him. I stopped in my tracks when a smile found its way on to my face. It was clear that Lunar was very fond of Nick, that she loved him and he loved her. I never had any pets other than goldfish, who I did love but it's quite impossible to make a special bond or to befriend a goldfish. It's completely different with dogs, cats and horses. Hearing the way Lunar got excited to see Nick really made me want a pet of my own.
"I brought someone to see you too," Nick said and that's when I entered. The horse looked from Nick to me and then trotted towards me slowly, making a quite nieghing noise. I lifted my hand and petted her head and nose. "She likes you," Nick told me as I continued petting her head.
"Have you ever entered any competitions? You know those show jumping comps," I wondered.
"Hmm...No," he replied.
"How come?" I asked him stopping petting Lunar and turned to him.
"I'm not really interested, I would rather just ride around the village, it's kinda peaceful," he replied and I nodded. I could understand just being happy riding around with Lunar, besides something about her told me she wouldn't be too happy in that situation.
Nick came over to where Lunar and I stood and began petting her as well.
"Nick?" I said as another question popped into my head. He turned his head to face me but continued to stroke Lunar.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"How long have you lived here?" I asked him, wondering if he was born here or if he moved here. However him and his family did have a slightly different accent from most other people in the village, but I couldn't place where abouts the accent was from.
"About 2 years and a half now," he replied.
"Yeah, I thought you moved here from somewhere else. You're family's accents are different from Kaitee's and the others," I stated.
"Yeah, I come from Exeter in Devon," he told me. "You'd like it there, it's got a really old underground system and a gothic cathedral," he added.
"That sounds awesome," I said as I added that to the lost of places I would love to visit one day, because it sounded like it had lots of historical buildings and things to see.
"I'll take you one day. You'll get to meet the rest of my family," he suggested and I felt my heart skip a beat before it began beating rapidly.
"I would like that," I said. He just smiled at me and then turned back to Lunar.
"I'm sorry we have to go now, Lunar. It's getting late but I'll be back in the morning to see you," Nick told her. She neighed quietly. It sounded as if she was sad.
"I promise," Nick said and she fell silent. Then we headed out of the stables and turned out the light and walked back inside the house.
Diego
Nick and Vicky had gone outside to the stables, Jane and Julian had gone up stairs so that left me alone down stairs with Bella. We was now in the kitchen getting something to drink.
"Bella you've gotta be careful who you try and taunt or fight. I know you aren't scared but one day you'll meet someone more powerful who could easily kill you," I told her as I recalled how she had threatened my dad.
"Aww, are you worried about me? Don't. If the person is stronger than me I'm not going to taunt them or fight them. I'll make them pay when they least expect it, so they'll be caught off guard," she replied but it seemed as if she wasn't getting it. If she tried taking on every evil person by her self she'd wind up getting hurt or worse killed.
"That's not what I mean," I told her.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I mean you can't go around fighting everyone on your own. One day someone will be stronger than you and you'll end up hurt or dead," I told her.
"Okay, I won't try take everyone on by myself," she agreed.
"Good," I said as I took a sip of my drink.
"Diego, there's something I need to ask you," she said slowly and her voice was low.
"What is it?" I wonder as she came to sit next to me at the table, with a glass of orange juice in her hand. She placed the glass on the table and then turned to face me, our eyes locking together. It was as if her brown eyes were sparkling and I couldn't help but to be drawn in by them. I couldn't turn from her even if I tried, her eyes, her face, her hair was so beautiful. I just hoped I didn't creep her out but she didn't seem bothered in fact she was looking at me just as intently.
She sighed and looked away from me down at her drink and I snapped out of the enchantment so I looked away from her too.
"This is kinda hard for me, but I got ask. I've gotta know the answer. I can't keep living without knowing out could happen," she said and looks back at me.
"Bella you know you can ask me anything," I told her and re-met her gaze.
"I- Would you like to hang out sometime just me and you?" She mumbled as if she was going to say something else but quickly changed her mind.
"We've done that before. I don't think that's what you really want to ask me is it?" I questioned her and she shook her head.
"Fine, I'm asking you out on a date, okay?" She said sounding very defensive. I thought back the urge to smile or to react the way I wanted at her words. I wanted to scream yes and take her in my arms and kiss her, something I wanted to do for a long time now but I bit the inside of my cheek as I struggled to not do so. I wanted to feel her lips against mine, the warmth of her body against mine but she was Nick's sister. My best friend's sister. I couldn't do anything about my feelings for her until I knew he'd be okay with it.
"I'd love to go on a date with you, but..." I began to say but she had cut me off.
"Of course there's a but," she said, her eyes narrow and her voice quiet as she glanced away from me. "It's because I'm mean sometimes and because you can't possibly love a girl like me?"
"But I do love you. It's just that you're Nick's sister and I'm his best friend. We need see if he's okay with us dating," I told her.
"Well then we explain that we really like each other so that he understands and is okay with it. And if isn't well I don't care," she said.
"I care. Can't we wait until we ask him?" I asked her.
"Fine," she replied.
"Thank you," I said. "Now why did you think I wouldn't want to go out on a date with you?" I added and took a sip of my drink.
"Well you know what I'm like. I'm not very nice am I?" She replied.
"Bella, I think you're beautiful, caring, and plus you're very determined act strong willed. There's so many good qualities about you than there is bad," I told her and a smile lit up her face.
"Really, you think so?" She asked me.
"I know so." Her smile was catching. I found myself smiling too as I pushed a lose strand of hair that had fallen out of her neatly tied up hair over her ear. Before I could stop myself I was already too close. Leaning forward and putting my arms around her, I kissed her. She placed her arms around me also and I was lost in the moment forgetting everything I had previously said about having to ask Nick first. It had been so long. Too long since I first wanted to be this close to her, now I actually were and she actually felt the same way about me.
As we heard the kitchen door open we pulled away from each other and looked to see who had just entered. When I saw who it was my heart began to beat just a little faster and all my previous words came flooding back into my head, that were telling me no shouting at me things that made me feel quilty as if I just committed a serious-terrible crime.
Vicky
Nick and I had decided to grab something for supper so we headed straight for the kitchen when we got inside. When we pushed open the kitchen door, I stared wide eyed and almost gasped but soon that little moment of shock had passed and a huge smile found its way on to my face. It's about time, I couldn't help but to think as they pulled away from the kiss to look in the direction of me and Nick. I looked at Nick to see what his reaction would be. He was still staring and stood dead still. I tried to read his thoughts but they just came back blank as if he was truly lost for words. Soon he snapped out of it though and walked over to Diego. "Care to explain why you were kissing my sister?"
Diego's father stopped just feets away from him glaring and then shook his head. "Come home, Diego, this little charade has gone on for too long. You know you can't escape, that your place is within my pack. If you come with us now I promise they'll be no consequences to pay and your..."
