Away From The City
"No way..." Aiden whispered holding the piece of paper in his hand. "Oh my God..." Grace said in a low voice with her hands in front of her mouth and tears rolling down her eyes. "This can't be happening..." He said in disbelief while gazibg at the heart breaking state of his late father. "How did they get him?! Who did this!?" He shouted almost immediately after he took a closer look on his surroundings. "The car's... gone...?" He muttered under his breath. "Someone must have come here looking for a car or a means of transport. Your dad must have put up quite the fight..." Grace pointed out still looking shocked. "I can't believe it... Dad..." The teenager said kneeling beside him, while quickly grabbed a blanket which was lying next to him and dusted it off. "I love you too dad... Rest easy..." He said placing it on top of his body covering his lifeless face. "You will always be my hero..." Aiden said as he couldn't resist the urge anymore and bursted into tears. Grace quickly her tears away and decided to give him some space.
After Aiden was done mourning for his loss and buried his dad's body on their garden. he went upstairs and picked up some things that might come in handy in a backpack. One hoodie, in case it gets cold, a flashlight, some batteries, two bottles of water and some edibles. He changed his clothes, because the school's uniform was really uncomfortable, and wore a dark pair of jeans, a blue zipped-hoodie and some white trainers. Aiden and Grace left the house through the front door and Aiden locked it, just in case some member of his family where to come here. "Wait." Aiden said to Grace before she started walking away. Aiden took out the piece of paper that his father had on his jacket and read it one more time with tears almost escaping from his eyes. "I'm gonna find them. Don't worry." He said in a low voice as he stuffed it back into his jean's pocket. "Sorry for the wait let's get going." Aiden said living his residence. "I bet I'm not going to see this place soon right?" He thought to himself. "Aiden! Are you listening?" Grace asked. "Yeah yeah sorry!" He replied looking confused. "Sorry... Are you alright?" The blonde haired girl asked. "Kinda... Anyway where is our next stop? Do you want to go to the train station and wait for the others?" Aiden proposed "I mean it's just... 17:45!" He shouted. "What?! We're gonna be late! We have to pick up the pace!" Grace said and both of them started jogging towards their destination.
They passed by undead creatures and destroyed buildings but they continued their way to the train station. After 10 minutes they finally reached their landmark. "We're here. 5 minutes earlier." Aiden said looking at his LED watch on his left wrist. "Shouldn't they be here already?" Grace asked. "Maybe. Well let's give them some time they'll be here shortly I bet." Aiden said resting his at a wall next to the station. "So... Uhm... How are you feeling?" Grace asked. "I don't know... It's really hard when I think about it. But I'll try not to. We have to survive and all that incident is doing to me is drag me down." The black haired boy explained. "You shouldn't push yourself! Or maybe... You should! Or... I don't know honestly... I'm not good with these things..." Grace said looking down. "You're such an idiot..." Aiden said laughing. "I'm just glad we're together." He said looking at her. "O-Obviously..." She said turning all red.
"It's 18:15! What's going on?!" Grace said as she brought her phone to her hand. "Really...?" Aiden asked. "Look!" She said bringing her phone to his face. "18:16... Man what are we-" He stopped midway thinking about the circumstances. "I got it Grace! Can you call Mills?!" He brought his phone at school today maybe we can reach them!" The black haired boy implied. "I don't know if that will work... I mean after what's happened there has been no service till then... I've been checking." The blonde haired girl replied pessimistically. "Fuck!" He almost shouted. "I'VE GOT SERVICE! I'VE GOT SERVICE!" She shouted looking at her phone. "REALLY?! CALLS MILLS!" Aiden shouted back. "On it." He said dialing in his number and pressing the speaker button so they could both hear the conversation. "MILLS?! MILLS CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" Grace shouted. "Aiden?! Grace?! Guys this in not a good time!" Mills voice could be heard, it was anxious and tired. "Where are you?!" Aiden asked. "We're out of the city we got- we got chased! Don't wait for us on the train station or they will get you too!" Mills was heard through the phone, it seemed as though he was running away from something. "MICHAEL WATCH OUT! GUYS I GOTTA GO! WHATEVER HAPPENS WE-" Mills didn't finish his words due to the call hanging up. "SHIT!" Aiden shouted kicking the wall. "Come on you stupid phone! Why is there no service?!" Grace shouted. "So what do we do now?" She said turning to look at her friend. "I don't know... Mills said something about getting out of the city... But that has to be done by car... Our Jeep has no gas so that won't be an option... Come on man think!" Aiden said in a low voice. "URGHHH HURRY MAN!" A man's voice could be heard close to them. "What was that?!" Grace asked. "I don't know better check it out!" Aiden said jumping of his seat and grabbing her hand. They ran towards the shouting and found to young men trying to push a disabled car out of the way. Lots of walkers had surrounded them and it seemed like they needed some help. "Do you need any help?" Aiden asked slowly approaching them. "DON'T EAT US!" One of them said. He looked heavier than the other. He had long brown hair, brown eyes and a slight moustache. "They're not gonna eat us you asshole! We need your help you two!" The other one said. He was a little shorter and leanier than his friend. He had short black hair and brown eyes. "What do you want us to do?" Aiden asked. "We just need you to push this fucking car out of the way so we can drive away! If you help us we can get you whenever you want to go!" The black haired man said struggling to push the car away. "Okay we got it!" Aiden said as he started pushing the car and the walkers were closing in on them. The four of them were pushing the car little by little and managed to get it out of the way just in time. "Hurry man!" The brown haired one said jumping into the back of their truck. "Get in!" Aiden said to Grace opening the door for her. "You too gentleman!" The black haired young man said grabbing the wheel. As soon as the four of them were safely on board the man on the wheel stepped on the pedal and the truck flew off the situation. They run over some walkers but they eventually got away from the pinch. "Man that was a close one..." The man on the wheel said. "It sure was..." Aiden said breathing heavily. "My name is William and the one at the back of the truck is Victor." William said. "My name is Aiden." "And my name is Grace." The two teenagers said introducing themselves. "So where should I take you guys?" The black haired young man asked. "Well our plan was to leave the city..." Aiden said. "That's good news... I live in a farm not so far from Atlanta. You can spend the night at my place. I live with my dad but I don't think he will object." William proposed. "Thanks William. So what do you say?" Aiden said looking at Grace. "I could use the rest..." Grace said resting her head on his shoulder. "Since your girlfriend agrees then I guess you're coming." He said smiling. "We're not like that!" Both of them blurted out embarrassed. "Yeah yeah! Anyway thanks for helping us out back there! You saved our lives!" William said with sencirity. "It's no big deal don't mention it." Grace said. "What do you mean? We would have been dead without you!" The black haired man said. "It was good to see some humanity after all this madness... Luckily the things up in the country side are better. But still... What's going on to the world..." William continued. "I know man... Things are looking bad for humanity right now." Aiden said looking out the window.
